Six Little Secrets has a lot of potential, but ultimately fails to live up to its premise. In a plot drawing heavily from The Breakfast Club, six students are stuck in high school on a Saturday morning, all sitting detentions - and being blackmailed by an anonymous stranger. It was interesting until about halfway through and then it all kind of fell apart when the entire plot was suddenly revealed over the course of a few pages. No suspense, no build up, nothing. Although I enjoyed the mystery of what the students secrets were and the clever ways the punishments were doled out, the disappointing slump of an ending leads me to give this very reluctant two star review.

I'm a fan of YA suspense/mysteries, school drama, and multi-POV, and this delivered all of those. The characters weren't as complex as I personally like, but the mystery was compelling and kept me reading. The set-up was clever, and at least two of the characters were sympathetic enough that I felt engaged through their sections. I always enjoy multi-POV because we get insight into everyone's secrets, and this was no exception, though some of the secrets seemed heavier than the tone of the narrative, if that makes sense, and I liked the resolution and ending (hopeful but not completely resolved). All in all, I enjoyed it.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. Not sure what to make of this book to be honest, it was good but not good and then it was rubbish,. Sorry

Quick, and interesting, but the ending was nuts and not in the best way.

Short read of a mix of The Breakfast Club and I Know What You Did Last Summer. The story was a bit too neat and convenient for me. Don't want to say much or it will give things away. I didn't connect with the characters even Zoe who seemed to be the main one. The story was not developed enough for the levels of the characters and actions. If it was a full length the story may have been better. I received an ebook in exchange for an honest review.

Six Little Secrets is about six teenagers during detention after having been framed into being there. They’re trapped by an anonymous voice claiming to know each of their secret and that if they don’t comply to their give, missions, the secrets will be revealed.
I mostly enjoyed this book. The intrigued was pretty good even though it felt like I had already read similar books before.
The characters were pretty clichéd but I could tell it was on purpose.
Still, I liked the characters and found myself rooting for them pretty quickly…
I related to some of the characters and wanted to shake others.
The main twist was interesting.
All in all, an enjoyable novella.

Six secrets and comeuppence. Good storyline well executed. Would recommend this book. Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the chance to review this book.

I appreciated the fact that this book was a quick read because I was able to knock it out pretty quickly but I think that it needed more time and pages in order to make it a fully finished book. There wasn't enough depth in order for the me to feel the full weight of the story. I know that it was supposed to be a thriller but it ended up looking like a someone was pulling dangerous pranks on the students in the detention. The reveal of why the person is putting the kids through the trials so to speak is serious but it ended up feeling silly. I was disappointed because it made the book feel like a joke and I couldn't help but not take any of the characters seriously. I will say that the book was able to keep my attention throughout even with all the improvements that I feel needed to be made.
I thought that it was interesting that the author did flashbacks for each character and they each got to explain what brought them to detention in their point of view. Each of their points of view let the reader see what their personality was like and where they fell in the social hierarchy at the high school. I'm still not sure why the author chose Zoe to be the point of view that the reader sees for the majority of the book. I did think that she was the most likeable character in the book because the rest of the kids were awful. Well...that isn't entirely true. I did like Teddy but he made some bad decisions so it made him a bit less likeable. This book reminded me of a more messed up Breakfast Club if anyone is a fan of John Hughes movies. Each clique was represented in detention and none of them wanted to listen to the teacher in charge no matter how cool he was trying to be.

You may think you know your class mates in school. But do you really? When six highschoolers find themselves in detention on a Saturday, they don’t know how their lives and actions are entwined. But they are about to find out. Soon and painful.
5 stars and I just have positive things to say about this book. I liked how the secrets of everyone were revealed. And until the end I had no idea how this would play out and what had happened.
Highly recommended, this book makes a great read for all YA mystery/ thriller reader. I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thanks to NetGalley and HQ Digital!

You know how you’re watching a SyFy “horror” movie and the dialogue is random, the characters are ridiculous, and the plot is beyond terrible that it’s foolish? That’s this novella. I didn’t know this was a novella until I saw how short it was on my kindle so that mistake was on me. As for the rest of it, it was just so ludicrous that I easily could have passed on it, but I didn’t because it was so short and irrational to not finish.
Six students from different cliques are all attending Saturday detention. A gravelly voice comes over the intercom saying that they all are going to play a game, expose their deepest secrets, and to not leave the room or inform anyone. One by one, these students have their secrets outed as they play a twisted game and choosing the outcome they prefer.
I couldn’t connect with any of the characters. The plot was ridiculous. The dialogue was ridiculous. How everything was enacted was ridiculous.
I received an ARC of Six Little Secrets from NetGalley.

SIX LITTLE SECRETS by Katlyn Duncan was a fast paced high school thriller. Six kids get tricked into detention where they are stalked and forced to play a game they never wanted to. If they passed their secrets stayed safe, but if they failed their pasts will come to haunt them.
I really liked how quick it was, although it was what I found lacking too. All the characters were very unique and their pasts were all equally as troubling. Duncan did a good job with the characterizations.
The whole plot was pretty intricate and I liked it. But on the other hand I wonder if it was really that realistic. I had trouble believing the big baddie would go to such lengths to do what they did. If you read it, you’ll know what I’m talking about! Sorry, no spoilers! Ha!
Some of the punishments were interesting, and some were uncomfortable to read (Poor Cece). I kind of wish there was more deadly consequences. I feel like that would have had my interest piqued to the max.
So though I wish it was longer, I still enjoyed it as a whole and would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a quick YA thriller.

I didn't see that this book was a young adult book but once I downloaded it I thought I would read it anyway.
There were no surprises in either the plot or the style for me and I suppose it was what I expected. I was just a little disappointed that the author had not perhaps come up with something more original than the expected teenage angst.
That said I am not a young adult so I will still mark it four stars.as thinking about the young adults I know they would probably enjoy this story.

A cheerleader, a troublemaker, a fashionista wannabe, a guy who is seemingly perfect, the new girl.......this sounds like it could be the beginning of a joke, or maybe an 80's John Hughes movie. Instead, this eclectic group is all taking detention together on Saturday morning. What starts as a morning filled with barbed insults and snappy retorts turns into a game of revenge where everyone loses and someone unknown is calling the shots.
This was really enjoyable and kept me engrossed. I felt the ending was a little rushed, but other than that I thought it was an excellent read. I would definitely recommend it.

This YA thriller is Breakfast Club meets Saw. I read the 'voice' as being like the husky tones of Jigsaw! The characters are a good cross section of the characters that you meet in most American high school books and films, but this book really shows that underneath the geeky exterior or perfect persona, everyone has something to hide, some inner struggle or cross to bear. It turns these situations against them, and makes for a really gripping read. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

3.75 Stars - Zoe, Cece, Quentin, Jackie, Teddy and Holly are classmates. On one Saturday, they’re all gathered for their detentions for what each of them did (or did not)! Their task is to create the chain from the promises (a project of their Student Council to pledge no to drink). When they were working on their tasks, they hear a voice said from the intercom:
"The six of you were selected to be here today because you are all hiding something. A secret. One that eats you up inside each day. I’m here to set you free … Today you will all learn that each decision you make affects the world around you. You will each complete a task. One that has to be completed by you alone … The choice is yours."
So what they did that made someone so mad?! What’s that they don’t know themselves about it?! what are their secrets?! Could they choose the right choice?! If they don’t choose the right thing what’s their punishment?!
Well, this story was a fact-paced thriller. I enjoyed it but I had a big problem; some of the punishments were really harsh and they were dangerous for them! They are kids, they’re in high school! And that thing was really circumstantial, I mean you can’t blame someone for doing them! And I know some of the habits were really dangerous but you can’t punish someone like that! Told in multiple POV, 3rd person. It’s a standalone novella and you can read it in one seat.
Thanks to Katlyn Duncan, Netgalley and HQ Digital for the advanced digital copy in exchange an honest review.

Intriguing! This kept me on the edge of my seat! Grammatical errors were a turn off though.

Zoe enjoys her Saturday mornings in detention, not that she actually has detention, but it gives her a chance to escape her home situation. But this Saturday is unlike all the rest because she is not alone- instead there are five other teens present, the most random assortment of people. Instead of chance though, the group was brought together for a specific purpose- to be set free, even if they don't want to be. And some may not make it out of detention.
I love the idea of Breakfast club style books, where a group of random kids is brought together against their will and they end up bonding somehow- be it romance or mystery, so I wanted to read this story when I first came across it. I usually don't like to read novellas as a general rule since I feel like I am missing out on either character or plot development, and to be honest I did not realize that this was a novella until I started to read and found that it was only 130ish pages. I have read another mystery, As You Lay Sleeping, by Katlyn and really enjoyed it so I jumped at the opportunity to read another book by her. This will be a fairly short review since I don't want to spoil anything (this is a mystery after all!) and the story itself was not super long.
This book was narrated predominately by Zoe, the loner girl who enjoys her solitude by attending Saturday morning detentions, even though she has not received detention. Throughout the novella the other characters get a chapter here and there with their narration included to help create backstory and motivation. There appears to be no connection between the six teens, but as the story progresses, clues are dropped and lies are revealed, making for a twisty turny mystery that I kept guessing at.
I really enjoy Katlyn's writing style and pacing, making for engaging flawed characters and surprising plot reveals. That being said, I would have liked this to be a longer, full length book with a little bit more emphasis on the character development, but that may just be for selfish reasons because Katlyn was able to deliver a complete read within the pages she produced. I enjoyed this fast little story and look forward to more from the author.
I received this title for reviewing purposes.

This was a super quick read and I read it in one sitting. This was definitely a page turner and kept you on the edge of your seat.
Once I started reading the book I got the vibe of a modern day feel with a creepy twist of the Breakfast Club and can totally see this being made into a movie. Which by the way is one of my all time favorite movies from the 80s that I can rewatch over and over again. I even sported the Molly Ringwald hair cut.
So in this version six teenagers are arriving for their detention. There is a brain, a beauty, a cheerleader, a rebel and a recluse. The only thing different is that each of the kids have a deep dark secret that they don’t want revealed so the person who has sent them to detention knows exactly what they are. This group must follow the instructions given to them and they must reveal their secrets and if they don’t there is consequences to it.
Who is the person behind this that knows everything? Why are they doing it now? How deep and dark are these secrets?
I know I was curious about who the 6th person was and with all the twist and turns I didn’t see that coming. I loved how even though this was short everything gets tied up at the end and all is revealed.
I think if your looking for a good edge of the seat mini thriller then this is for you.

It seemed like it would be an interesting read when you read the description. Seemed a little like The Breakfast Club but that was okay because I'm an 80s baby so I love that movie. The beginning was very clearly like The Breakfast Club. After the first couple chapters, it went downhill fast. Unfortunately I struggled to finish this book. It had the potential to be so much better. It was obviously short since it was a novella but the story could have been better developed and turned into a full length novel.

6 students (Q, Holly, Jackie, Teddy, Zoe, Cece), 1 detention, many secrets!
Before I started this I was a bit worried, I already read one Detention + Secrets + Punishments book earlier this year, and I thought this may be the same. But thankfully it isn't! Though it did turn into something I wasn't amused with. But I will discuss that in a bit.
While we at times switch over to the other characters (past/now), Zoe is the main character in this story. She is looking forward to a nice quiet Saturday in the library, but sadly for her there are now 5 other kids joining her. I knew her secret instantly. Call it a girl's intuition or maybe the author wrote it to be very easy to figure out. I was kind of curious if her secret would come out, just like the other characters secrets came out one by one.
I have to say I didn't really care about any of the characters. This may sound mean, but they just didn't stand out for me. They were just players in the story acting out their roles.
I also quickly figured out the whodunnit, there were just too many hints to it. And I was delighted that I was right!
The secrets/the punishments/the games they were exciting (if that is the right word for it) and over-the-top. Even though I didn't particularly care for the characters, no one deserves the punishments these characters got. :( They got from bad to worse with each punishment, and I was kind of worried what would happen to the next character.
Though the book gets one less star for one big reason: it reminded me of the pile of poo that was Thirteen Reasons Why. It was just so much that book, especially when the culprit and their reasons were revealed. (view spoiler)
All in all, it was still a great book and I flew through it. Before I knew it the book was over. The ending was pretty OK, a bit of a letdown though.
