Hellbent by Gregg Hurwitz a fascinating four-star read. This is the third book in the Orphan X Thrillers but it could be read as stand-alone. What a read this will keep you on the edge of your seat, the action never lets up but it’s not so heavy that it’s all your reading there is a good drama to the story as well. The plot twists will keep you hooked and have you wondering what is going on in places, but keeps you hanging on as you need to know if Evan will get what he needs, will he get the package and get revenge? If you are in the mood for a good thriller then this is the story for you.
Orphan X is back and this time he has company. The Nowhere Man returns in Hellbent and even though it’s only January, we have a contender for Thriller of the Year. Evan Smoak is one of the finest characters in fiction today and Mr Hurwitz has created a character that rivals Reacher. In this third instalment, Orphan X is still being hunted by the Orphan Programme who will stop at nothing to tie up their loose ends. His mentor requests that he looks after a package which turns out to be a teenage girl with her own particular skill set. What follows is a game of cat and mouse between Van Sciver and his group of killers and Evan and his new charge. The pages of the book fly by a break neck speed and the stunning conclusion leaves you wanting more. A highly recommended read.
An exciting read with twists, turns, a fast paced, page turner.
This is the 3rd book in the Orphan x series & the story continues from where the last one left off, it would be best to read them in order & if you’ve read the other 2, you will enjoy this one too.
Shows a more personal side to the main character & a very enjoyable read. Highly recommended.
Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Book 3 in The Nowhere Man series and Evan Smoak is going from strength to strength in these books. If you read the first two of the series then you'll definitely want to read this one.
I now eagerly await the next book and do hope Mr Hurwitz is working on it.
I received a free copy of the book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I loved both OrphanX and Nowhere Man so I was expecting great things from Hellbent, it did not disappoint. Although it started slower than the other books by this very talented writer, it soon got me hooked. Evan Smoak has always looked up to Jack, who took him from the orphanage and shaped his life. Something awful happens and leaves Evan with a problem. Fast passed and I really could not put this book down. Gregg Hurwitz does not disappoint.
I’ve read and enjoyed the previous two Orphan X books so I was excited to receive this third one from NetGalley in exchange for a review.
This was a fast moving action packed read. Evan our hero, is still being pursued by the renegade Orphans including Van Sciver who wants him dead. Van Sciver uses Evan’s mentor and father figure Jack to try and capture him. Jack is kidnapped but manages to get a message to Evan to protect one of the last orphans whom he’d been hiding. Once Evan teams up with young Joey it’s a race against time to find out what is going on and evade the clutches of Van Sciver’s men. As Evan investigates he discovers just how far the conspiracy goes.
I enjoyed this book as it offered the reader the chance to see a softer and more human side to Evan. He tries to continue his relationship with his neighbour Mia and her young son as well as looking out for Joey who is needy and difficult. We get several flashbacks to things Evan has learned from Jack which help him when dealing with Joey.
I don’t want to reveal too much of the plot but needless to say it was exciting and involved lots of action making the book difficult to put down. It ended with a cliffhanger paving the way for another episode in the series and my only disappointment is that I will have to wait a while to enjoy it.
This is perfect for fans of high octane thrillers although I would strongly suggest reading the books in order which means new readers will be in for a real treat!
This has to be my favourite of all the Orphan X series, we get to see more of Evan's personal side and him allowing people to get close to him. The usual background of cat and mouse with the remaining orphans who are trying to kill him while he's trying to save the people who ring the nowhere man.
Absolutely loved the way he dealt with the gang it was genius!
Can't wait for the next one!
