I selected this book to read the first page only to confirm whether it would be the next off my TBR pile. Well..... I was hooked and could not put it down! It made me laugh out loud, call out names to certain characters, well up. It was light but with real life issues. I felt all the characters were believable and I could even match them to people I knew which made the story even more real life.
I read this book within a day and really enjoyable it. I will be telling my friends this is the book to read if they want to escape their own lives and it will make them smile for sure!
This book had me gripped form the beginning. Its a book with a good sense of humour. Enjoyed the little twist in the middle, added to the suspense and wamting to know what would happen next. Have enjoyed all jane fallon books and would definately recommend to a friend.
I found this book really gripping. Amy has been away filming in America. When she comes back earlier than expected she discovers that her best friend has been sleeping with her fiance. She decides that she will come back without letting them know but cause some mischief whilst she is starting to rebuild her life.
She finds a flat above a shop which is awful- but all she can afford whilst she is waiting for a break. She starts to make it homely with some amusing finds. One of her old Uni friends steps up and provides the support and friendship she needs and they have a lovely friendship.
We flash back to their Uni days and the early days of her friendship with Melissa who has always been very selfish.
I loved every page- seeing her flat take shape with it's unexpected surprise. I loved the 'secrecy' with her keeping the fact that she knew from those who had been the closest to her.
Not sure why the two main characters stayed friends with each other for so long, but boy, did it mean a great story! I absolutely loved this book. Jane Fallon makes the story flow, it is just so real. There were plenty of twists to keep this story great until the last word. Loved it! Would highly recommend. Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an advance digital copy in exchange for an honest review.
Jane Fallon is a fantastic author. I really thought I knew where this story was going and would be the usual predictable book, I was very mistaken!
I loved this book, the story keeps you turning the pages as the plot twists and avoids being obvious. It follows real modern life.
I loved this book, definitely one of those 'just another page' books as there was so much happening.
Amy is an actress trying to make her mark and is just coming out of a series on American TV where she had a fairly small part as the sister of the main character. She is engaged to Jack and they have been putting off their wedding because of Amy's career. But now her character has been killed off and so she can come back to the UK and plan their wedding. But on arriving home as a surprise she finds a woman's clothes etc. in their London flat and realises that Jack has been having an affair whilst she has been out of the country. Even more heartbreaking is when she finds out it's with her 'best friend' Mel whom she's known sin0ce she was eleven.
So, aided by a couple of her friends, Amy decides to get her own back and lets both Jack and Mel think she's still in the States, whilst playing around with their lives in various ways, losing Jack a job and hacking into Mel's laptop whilst looking for evidence in her flat whilst Jack and Mel are at work.
She meets another guy whilst moving into her new, very dingy, flat (although it turns out it has a fabulous hidden roof terrace which sounded absolutely lovely) and her life starts picking up again, only for the tables to be turned on her! I definitely didn't see a few twists coming towards the end and I did feel really sorry for Amy as she was the 'wronged' woman, even if she did get her own back eventually. Mel deserved everything she had coming to her, even if it took a while to finally sort her out.
Amy eventually moved on with her life and reconnected with friends she'd lost along the way, mainly due to toxic Mel, and was actually much happier. So I suppose it was definitely a case of things happening for a reason, although it didn't seem so initially and she had to work through a lot to get to her new life and realise who her real friends were.
I did find it a bit confusing initially when it jumped from one person's perspective to another's all of a sudden towards the last part of the book, as I've noticed other people mention. It was totally out of the blue and could really have been made a bit clearer, but once I'd got my head around what was going on it was OK.
A really riveting yet fun book that I would highly recommend.
Your best friend stole your fiancé. Do you run away and hide, or start planning your revenge?
Amy thought she knew everything there was to know about her best friend Melissa (Mel) Then again, Amy also thought she was on the verge of the wedding of her dreams to her long-distance fiancé. (Jack) Until she pays a surprise trip home to London. Jack is out, but it's clear another woman has been making herself at home in their flat. There's something about her stuff that feels oddly familiar.
After leaving her flat and then going onto Mel's birthday party she realises the scent in their home belongs her very best two-faced friend Mel. From here the tension cranks up enormously and it is very hard to put this book down! One thing after another, the plot is laid to get payback, and it’s brilliant! Along the way, we learn about the back story to Amy and Mel’s friendship and I could not read fast enough to find out what happens next. I can honestly say this is unique to any other novel.
Amy has lost her home, her fiancé and her best friend in one disastrous weekend - but instead of falling apart, she's determined to get her own back. Piecing her life back together won't be half as fun as dismantling theirs, after all.
I raced through Jane Fallon's delicious new page-turner about friends behaving badly. It's unpredictable and feisty, with a lead character that's a long way from the average romantic heroine.
I started this on Saturday and finished it by Sunday afternoon, I absolutely loved it and just couldn't put it down. This is the best book I have read for a long time
Finally am I the last person to know that Jane Fallon has been the better half of Ricky Gervais for 35 years!!! I’ll get back under my rock.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Penguin UK for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for a fair and honest review
This would be a good holiday read as it's not too taxing. It's not a genre I'm that familiar with (billed as "chick noir") but it was an enjoyable read with a few unexpected twists.
The characters were well drawn, to the extent that I genuinely disliked some of them immensely (perhaps they reminded me of some real life people!). Some of the plot was on the cusp of being believable, but it worked on the whole.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read an advance copy in return for my honest review.
Wonderful and original with a very well written and engaging story and characters to love ( and hate). I did wonder at first if it was going to be too predictable because what happened to Amy early on in the story was fairly obvious but then there came lots of little twists to keep me interested and guessing what would happen next.
It’s a really good read and (without giving anything away ) whether you like happy endings or sad ones this provides both.
This book isn’t my usual genre, but I really loved it. Enough to give it five star review! It tells the story of Amy, an actress, and her life in the aftermath of finding out that her “best friend” is having an affair with her fiancé. It involves revenge and good humour, as well as the growth of Amy as a character. I couldn’t put it down and read it over the course of a couple of days.
Oh I really enjoyed this! Thank you so much to the publisher who invited me to read this. This is the first book I have read by this author and when I saw it was recommended by the fabulous Marian Keyes, I immediately bumped it up my tbr pile.
The story of friendship, betrayal and revenge, this book also had lots of humour in it, making it a great entertaining read. I loved how the characters were so well written, made them easy to identify with and gave the book a sense of realism. Some of the methods of gaining revenge were just brilliant!
Excellent book, I loved it and would highly recommend it.
A brilliant read which will have you gripped from page one! The story line is really different but makes you really think. A couple of unexpected twists and such vibrant characters that you will be turning the page as fast as possible to see what’s going to happen. Intriguing, romantic, sad and exciting in one great read.
I really enjoyed this book, but almost took off one star because I can't imagine why Amy would ever have stayed friends with Mel. Other than that, Amy is a very likeable character, and Mel makes a great hate focus. There are many funny incidents, the descriptions are good throughout, you feel as if you know the people, and could easily meet up with them for a drink. Good fun, entertaining and highly recommended.
This is a tale of friendship, manipulative behaviour, betrayal and sorrow - but it's also rather funny in places, making it an excellent yet non-demanding read.
The characterisation is superb. We get to know a lot about the main characters, Amy and her friends old and new, and her burgeoning career as an actress. The supporting cast contains some real treasures - Kat and Greg especially (I so hope they are based on real people, they are over-the-top!)
The book is an easy read and flows nicely, with plenty of flash-backs to show us how the relationship between Amy and toxic exhibitionist Mel became more 'fake' as the years passed, without Amy realising.
Although I really enjoyed this book I found the ending a bit 'twee' and predictable, with some fresh starts and some well-deserved comeuppance.
Amy, an aspiring actress, discovers that her fiance and best friend are having an affair while she is in America filming a TV series. The book unfolds her tale of revenge, and counter revenge by her erstwhile best friend. Then there's the subplot about a new love interest for Amy. Unfortunately this book was not for me. The characters are either unlikeable or unbelievable and the plot is contrived.
I haven’t read anything by Jane Fallon for several years as I’m usually more in to psychological thrillers these days...... however, I’d forgotten how much I loved her books. So easy to read and and enjoyable to see the story develop. The characters are very relatable.... I almost felt that I was part of the friendship group. Great ending, great book. Now I need to catch up with the other books she has written in recent years.
I throughly enjoyed this book. It tells the story of Amy finding out her best friend and her boyfriend had betrayed her. After going off to lick her wounds Amy decides to take revenge on the pair of them. When Mel works out what Amy is up to she in turn decides to get revenge on Amy. You follow the ups and downs of the girls lives as the try to move on. This would make a great film too.
Faking Friend's is a story of friendship, loyalty, love, jealousy, betrayal and revenge and what happens when it all goes wrong.
When Amy makes a surprise visit home from her acting job in America to see fiance Jack. Also to surprise best friend since childhood Mel at her 40th birthday party she discovers a suitcase full of women's clothes in her and Jacks bedroom also another woman's toiletries she decides to sort her life out find out who the other woman is and make them pay for their betrayal.
I enjoyed this book however by midway through my mind started to wonder I also got a bit confusing times it was going back to college days and changing characters in the middle of chapters started skipping bits it's a good storyline but for me it went on a bit too long.
I was looking forward to reading this latest release by Jane Fallon and as usual she hasn't disappointed. I loved how realistic the novel was, it was a story that could happen to anyone, and that is what made it so compelling to read. The scenarios are so believable and the characters were so well-written that I just had to keep reading to see what would happen to them.
Jane Fallon is back with a fantastic novel, she has such a talent for storytelling and Faking Friends will draw you in and keep you hooked until the very last word. I was thoroughly absorbed from start to finish and I'm already looking forward to the next book!
Thank you!
