I, Killer has posted two photos of his first victim online - Before Death and After Death. They've gone viral before DCI Fenton's team even discovers the body.
When the body is discovered, it is the body of Lauren Bishop. It's tasked to DCI Fenton and his team to try and find this killer.
#Ikiller is trending on social media and he seems to be gaining a fan club that is feeding his ego. He needs to keep his fan's happy and give them what they want, which to him means more killings, more pictures posted online.
This turned into a really good crime thriller, there was certainly enough going on to keep you interested in the story, and the odd twist to keep you guessing and leave you wanting more.
A very well put together story that I think most crime fans would enjoy. I liked how social media was used, a very up to date storyline.
DCI Fenton not only has his job to work on, he's also a single father. Balancing the job and parenting seems a little to much for him at time. I liked this aspect of the story as it made him seem more of a real person, a believable character.
I would have liked to get to know DCI Fenton a little more, I don't think we got everything about him as a person, so hopefully this is going to become a series of books where we get to know him better. I think he's going to be a great character going forward.
I look forward to reading more of this series.

Now You See is a thrillingly modern serial killer mystery and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Max Manning’s debut is shockingly gruesome, well-written and cleverly plotted. To start with I didn’t know where the plot was going, then I was sure I did, then I was proven wrong, then I thought I had it again…but there was still a final revelation to come!

The characters are well-rounded and believable; many of them were likeable (although Tess was a bit of a brat!) but I was surprised that Fenton did not play quite as big a role as I thought he would, given the blurb.

I did have to suspend disbelief at a couple of points, but I’m always happy to do this for an entertaining story, and this story plays out really well: the plot is good, the thrills keep coming and the twists were surprising. I would definitely read more from Max Manning.

Thank you to NetGalley and Headline for the ARC of Now You See.

In a category steeped in talent and serial killer thrillers Max Manning has succeeded in producing a stand out novel with Now You See!
Think Kevin Bacon The Following combined with the power of social media and you are on the right track with this book.

Exposing the darker side to human nature, our inclination towards the macabre, and most people’s inability to not look at the horrors around us. Lets be honest, we cant help but look at a car accident as you drive past or google something we have heard about that’s not pleasant viewing online!

And then on top of that this book takes you into the mind and thoughts of a serial killer in a way i haven’t come across before in such close proximity and I loved it! What makes killers tick has always interested me and I, Killer could be a real life killer and he certainly comes alive on the pages in such a believable fashion you almost end up waiting for him to show up on the news or on your twitter feed!!! (that might just be me and my imagination running away with its self!)

The other characters bring their own thoughts and traits to the story, DCI Dan Fenton is a brilliant character and I really hope there will be a follow-up book to this one. the kind of detective that is human as well as a police officer. Then there is Blake, an ex journalist suffering with ptsd, he makes a fascinating character that you cant help but like and then there is Leah, the sister to I,Killer’s first victim. She might not have been a huge character but she does stand out with her own personality and input into the search for the I,Killer.

It also makes you think about the power social media and how it has an impact on our lives and how easy it is to set the world on fire with 1 tweet or an instagram, Facebook post!! Not that any of mine have ever gone viral on such a massive scale! But then I haven’t killed anyone and posted the photos online 😀

If you enjoyed Chelsea Cain’s Gretchen and Archie series you will love this!! I certainly did!

The last thing I will say is the ending of the book will leave you needing more!! So Max, if by some miracle you are reading this – Please Please bring Fenton and Blake back – asap!!

This book is out now in kindle format and can be ordered now for a bargain £1.99 from Amazon UK and it will be released on April 19, 2018 in paperback so go pre-order your copy now and make a day free to read it as you won’t be able to put it down once you begin!

Now You See is a fast-paced murder-mystery-psychological-thriller which centres around DCI Dan Fenton. When a young woman is murdered on her way to work, photos of her murder are posted online by the murderer who goes by the online alias “I, Killer”; 1 photo taken immediately before she was murdered and 1 photo taken immediately after. Fenton must lead the investigation into finding the murderer before he strikes again and begins to look into the life of the victim, quickly bringing in ex-boyfriend Adam Blake for the first line of questioning.

From here Fenton and Blake embark on a mutual alliance in order to find the killer despite Blake still being on the police’s potential suspect list.

I, Killer is a genuine serial killer. We see glimpses of his personality, his thoughts, his ego and we are kept guessing with just enough information given at just the right time to make you second guess your own assumptions. We find out his motivation in a tense final meeting between the murderer and our hero. And while there has been very little in the way of clues to his true identity, it doesn’t feel like a “cop out” when the identity is revealed. I feel more observant people than myself may have picked up on this but for me, it was a surprise.

Now You See provides a true reflection of how modern day online communication is fast and unstoppable. Within minutes of things being posted, they are viewed, shared, liked, commented on over and over again and can be impossible to stop until it’s too late. This book covers the unfortunate truth that people will view and share things online out of morbid curiosity and I found the story completely believable in that sense.

I didn’t love “Now You See” but I enjoyed it a whole lot. A good read that keeps you guessing and is very well-written, well-paced and believable.

Firstly I would to thank Netgalley and the publishers for providing me with a review copy of this book.
Overall I'd say this was a disappointing read. The premise intregued me and I was excited to get stuck in, but I didn't like it from the beginning, though it had its pros. Throughout I wasn't sure about the short chapters, sometimes it felt like there was enough and sometimes it didn't but I think in the end they contributed to me finishing so quickly.
My two main cons with this book were that I felt like we didn't learn enough about the characters, so much so that in some places I didn't care about them, and throughout it felt quite impersonal, though less so in the second half. My second biggest issue was that there was no sense of time. I have no idea how long the period of time this book took place over, every now and then the author would say '...it had been two weeks since...' but right up until the end the time frame still felt confused.
I must admit I enjoyed the second half of this book considerably more than the first, and I cannot fault the story itself which was interesting, and I did not guess the murderer's identity. I enjoyed the mix of perspectives but again sometimes it felt confused - I liked the killer's perspective.
Overall I found Fenton's character utterly unlikeable. I realise the situation but rather than coming of as distressed he just came of as bitter and rude. I liked the partnership between Leah, Blake and Fenton, I just wish there had been more to the characters themselves.
This book was fine, but ultimately I felt underwhelmed.

‘Now you See’ is a totally absorbing and exciting book that I read in a day
A serial killer is on the loose and the killer posts pictures of their crimes on Instagram and Facebook ( I know, grisly ) and the more likes and ‘fans’ they get the more they love it!!
Enter DCI Fenton who is assigned to ‘solve’ the case, then follows a gritty and dark story involving DCI Fenton and Blake, an ex Iraqi journalist POW suffering from PTSD, who together have to solve the sick on line murders that the serial killer is posting
The characters are well written and believable and at times complex but this adds to the story and I really liked and enjoyed the main characters in the book
It is a fast paced, thrilling ride of a book that had me hooked from the first page and made me’want to know’ who the killer was and for the crimes to be solved, when unmasked I was shocked!!!!
The ending is a powerful mix of violence and tense claustrophobic moments that really did have me on the edge of my seat ( well bed!!!)
Brilliantly written, a feeling of satisfaction that I have read a worthwhile and great book and look forward to more in the series
10/10 5 stars

I'm always on the lookout for new Police Procedural series to get my teeth into, especially with so many of my usual go-to series going off the boil a little so I thought I'd give this one a whirl. I'm very happy to report that I wasn't disappointed. It grabbed me from the off, held my attention nicely throughout and left me satisfied with this episode at the end but hankering from more from the characters in the future. Job done!
So, we have a pretty nasty baddie in this book. With an MO which incorporates social media in the most heinous way. Before and after killing, the killer takes a photo and posts both on an anonymous twitter account. As with much on the internet these days, the posts go viral as so many people feed their own dark sides, albeit condemning the posts as they share them!
Enter DCI Dan Fenton and his team to investigate. Sadly they don't make enough progress soon enough initially to satisfy the powers that be, the press and the public and it isn't long before there's another murder and another set of pictures. Using the media to try to help him catch the perpetrator also appears to be a bad choice as the next victim is a little close to home for Dan and he gets taken off the case. But he doesn't let this stop him and he teams up with an unlikely ally to continue his investigation. But can they succeed where the Police have failed? Before more people die or the killer goes to ground?
One of the things I really liked about this book was the way that the killer used social media to gain followers and attention. It's a sad and sorry world where people actually hunt to see this stuff online but then again, there is so much - real and fake - of this out there that I guess we have all become a bit detached and desensitised from it all.
Plotting was tight and well done. Yes we get all the usual things for a book of this genre. Secrets, lies, duplicitous behaviour, red herrings, dead ends, you know the list. but all of the executed very well indeed. A more impressive feat considering that this is a debut book.
Characterisation was also good and in keeping for a first in series. We get to know the main players little by little as more of their backstory is disclosed. It's hard to qualify much of what I would like to say about them as, apart from Dan, none of the others are mentioned in the blurb. Suffice to say that I did find they all worked well both separately and, when teamed up, together.
Along the way, we also hear from the unnamed killer. Short punchy chapters that add a bit of insight into their world and how they see it. Some of these parts were quite chilling in nature and complemented the main story-telling very well.
When all was said and done and the killer was revealed, I have to admit to not really seeing that coming. Yes, they were on my radar but only on the periphery as a possible. I had ruled others out by close to the end but, even so, I have to admit to kicking myself with hindsight! I read so many of this, and other crime, genres these days so it does take a bit to catch me out so, well done that man!
All in all, a really great series opener and I am very much looking forward to seeing what's next for Dan. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

I loved this book, I was intrigued puzzled and in fact completely fooled by all the twists and turns.I thought the 2 main characters were great, I liked the fact that they both had a lot of baggage and were far from perfect, made them both more interesting, and also kept me wondering if all was as it seemed, I. didn't trust anyone.I did eventually work out who the killer was, but only a fraction ahead of the reveal, so it kept me pondering and I couldn't read the last part of the book fast enough, and stayed up way too late, I had to finish it even if I could have done with the beauty sleep ! I'm not giving anything away but if you are looking for a well written and fast paced thriller with a cracking story, pull up a seat you have the right book,I really enjoyed it and can't wait to read more by this talented writer.thanks to the publishers and netgalley for an ARC.

I do love a good murder mystery and this is definitely one of those. The author leads you down many a winding path and I was very happy to follow. An author I will be following

A killer takes pictures of his victims, before he kills to capture their terror, after to show off his handy work. Detective Dan Fenton leads the investigation. The thing is investigating a crime with no evidence but plenty of social media presence is too put a mildly a complete flipping nightmare. As IKiller, as he has monikered himself gains a fan base the body count stacks up and Dan finds himself and his close ones under threat.

Pacy and well written, this is definitely a book worth reading for any crime fan. Fenton is a pretty typical detective in this genre (tragic past, kid he has no time for etc) but shows promise. The far more interesting character is Adam Blake, ex journalist, ex boyfriend of the first victim and the initial suspect. He's a damaged fragile character, who hides his fragility with a grumpy stand offish persona, a bit reminiscent of Cormoran Strike. For me he was the main man of this story. I'm hoping he'll feature in future stories. The only thing that bugged me about this book was the reveal at the end - it was a bit daft and didn't ring true. But except those few sentences this is a great start - as long as we get more Blake!

Now You See by Max Manning is a crime novel that had me gripped from page one. I don't often read crime novels and I'm not really interested in police procedures but there is an exception to every rule and this book was the exception. I really liked the characters of DCI Fenton and Adam Blake and I look forward to reading more about these characters. The fact that the killer boasted about his crimes on social media make the book even more chilling. I would like to thank NetGalley and Headline for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

Really enjoyed this book, every time I thought I'd figured out who was behind the murders I was wrong! Kept me guessing right until the end. I hope there are more books involving Dan Fenton but hope he cheers up a bit!

Great New Crime thriller my only disappointment was the in the fact this was Max Manning’s first book I could not put it down. It was fast based well written and had me gripped from beginning to end . I loved every minute reading this and I really hope he continues the story or writes another book soon.

This was a very confusing book. At the beginning the story gripped me and I thought it was going to be really good, but it let me down .

It felt like in places it had been written by two different writers. There seemed too much going on at one time.

I did like that we got to see the killers story as well, but I think it would have been better if it was separated into chapters.

Also it would have been nice to have some details on the characters so that you can relate to them more.

I did not finish it because it just got too boring, sorry.

I really enjoyed this book featuring a police officer and a journalist working together to try to solve the I, Killer murders.
An inevitable start with the two not getting along and not wanting to work together; but soon changes when they both realise the severity of the problem with the brutal murderer called “I, Killer”.
This was a great read with lots of action and enough twists and turns to keep my interest.
I would highly recommend.
Thanks to NetGalley for a Kindle copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Now you see, is the debut novel of Max Manning and is the first novel in the DC1 Fenton Series. He is an excellent detective and is a widower, with a young daughter called Tess.
DCI Fenton stares at a computer screen of a fake Instagram account, with the username @Ikiller, showing photos of a woman before and after she was murdered. The site has been taken down but, the new killer’s photos has been viewed by several hundred people. The teams go on a hunt to find the body and the killer. The body of Leah Bishop is soon found in Victoria park. The body is clean and the team struggle to find out any evidence to discover who the killer is. They put a campaign on TV to see if anyone has information or seen someone in the park.
Marta is the new nanny for DCI Fenton’s daughter Tess. She is late to pick her up from school, when she sees her talking to a man in a hoodie. Marta tells Tess off but, it is kept secret between the two of them, because Marta hasn’t told the truth about her past and wants to keep her job. But, on her night off Marta becomes the next @Ikiller victim and photos like Leah’s are plastered over the internet. But this time, DCI Fenton founds her decapitated head on the bonnet of his car and is taken off the case. DCI Fenton thinks they have the wrong man to take over the case so with help of Blake a crime investigation reporter. They go and search for the killer.
I thought this was an excellent debut novel from Max Manning. It gripped me from the start to end of the story. It was very up to date story with the subject of what happens when things get leaked out on Social Media and the effects it has on all of us. I will be looking forward to what happens next in the series.
