Although I did enjoy reading this book I felt at time that there were a few too many plot lines and I was getting confused about what was happening to who!
Witnessing a freak accident was the catalyst for the four best friends, that leads to their lives changing drastically.
Jo decides to move in with her boyfriend, partly due to an electricity issue in her current flat and has to see if she can ever work out how to get along with his daughter Maisie.
Eve is concealing from everyone a lump she found on her breast, and starts to act erratically. She is the sort of person who doesn't like lose control over anything. Laura on the other hand finds her marriage isn't quite as strong as it should be, while her desire for a baby is getting stronger by the day.
Finally there is India, and this accident triggers all sorts of emotions in her, and lead to her being one of the most interesting characters, especially once you discover her secrets.
This is a story of friendship, relationships and how one moment can change your outlook on life forever. It is a lovingly written story and was the book focuses on all four women you really get to know them very well, in addition to the rest of their families. I really liked the various characters, and found myself thoroughly enjoying the whole book.
I am a huge fan of Lucy Diamond, and found this was certainly up to her normal standards, and found I was able to read it reasonably quickly, always being keen to get back to the book to see what the women would be up to next.
Really enjoyable story, where I was eager to see how everything turned out.
Thank you to Netgalley and MacMillan for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Four friends witness a terrible accident whilst dining together. It affects them all in different ways and secrets they have been h0lding and fears all come to the surface.
Lucy Diamond always creates such believable, warm characters and you instantly get drawn into their friendship group. You feel for each of them- as they cope with busy family lives and the worries that come along with relationship issues.
You know that you are going to be guaranteed a lovely read from Lucy and I always look forward to a new book from her.
A heartwarming tale of four friends and their lives, the secrets they keep and the support that they provide.
I really liked the way that this evolved, from the impact of the accident at the beginning through the year that followed.
I am a big Lucy Dismond fan. She writes great women’s fiction and I am pleased to say this one didn’t disappoint. The characters are well defined and you can’t help but root for them. My only quibble is the ending - I found it left some of the storylines unfinished - and while that makes it much more true to real life, I find it frustrating as a reader.
Lovely emotional well written story, I had been looking forward to reading this book and was happy to say I was not disappointed. Lovely book about the tests of friendship through thick and thin. Could relate to this book very well. Very good book
The story starts on a beautiful day when four great friends meet to celebrate a birthday. A horrific incident that they all witness has them all re-evaluating their lives in different ways. I really enjoyed this story and the separate chapters on each character. The characters are real and you can relate to each one. It was an easy, emotive read and I will be looking for more by this author.
I have always wanted to read a Lucy Diamond book so. When I saw this on Net galley I was excited when my request was accepted.
On a beautiful day is about four friends Eve, India, Jo and Laura who meet up one day for a birthday Lunch in Manchester. When a horrific van accident, just barely misses them and crashes nearby and changes all their lives together.
The story continues and tells us what effects it had to each individual character. Eve who has been ignoring a lump in her breast, feeling confused and helpless finds the courage to go the doctor about it. Laura who husband has left her, desperately wants a baby. India who comes befriends someone from the accident and old secrets start to resurface and Jo starts a new relationship but can’t quite bond with his daughter.
This is a beautifully written, emotional story about friendship and relationships between four friends in the good times and the bad and how good friends stick together. The story was very relatable and up to date. I loved every minute of it and as this is my first Lucy Diamond book I will look out for her others she has written.
Thank you Netgalley and Pan Macmillan for a copy of this book.
This book was lovely and really demonstrates the importance of friendship through life and the support this offers. Tomorrow is never a given. Each friend has something they are battling with on some level but they are lucky to have each other
This book was a great read from start to finish. I love the story and the messages that really make you think about your life and friendships.
Four best friends meet to celebrate India’s birthday where they meet in a restaurant. They are having a really nice meal and are catching up when they witness a most horrific accident.
All four women are shaken up and they all realise that you never know what is round the corner and you have to grab the opportunities that come your way.
Through thick and thin you can see the power of having true friends who are there for each other.
This book is an amazing read and about friendship and hope just brilliant.
I loved the opening chapter of Lucy Diamond's latest, as yet unreleased book, 'On a Beautiful Day.' I loved the way the four main characters separated themselves as individuals from their own lives, coming together at the bistro for a birthday lunch. Each character is introduced separately, what they're wearing, how they walk; Laura 'striding across the road' with Eve 'coming from the other direction' and 'no-nonsense Jo actually giggling and blushing as she chatted into her phone.' It's a great introduction, relatable and with the promise of a good gossipy read.
Suddenly however, a horrific car accident gate crashes their fun-filled lunch leaving dead and injured in its wake and in its aftermath he four friends find themselves re-evaluating their lives. Laura, desperate for a baby, weary of trying and failing; Laura's sister Jo, facing a new relationship not just with a man, but also with his difficult daughter(!); Eve, the control freak, avoiding dealing with the lump she has found in her breast and the uncertainty it represents; and India, her obsession with one of the victims bringing to the fore a secret she has harboured for far to long....
A great piece of chicklit to which I award 4 stars!
It’s been a while since I’ve read a Lucy Diamond book but On A Beautiful Day was an absolute treat.
It follows the lives of Jo, Laura, Eve and India - a group of friends from Manchester who face life’s daily trials and tribulations. When a freak accident happens just yards away from them they are all affected in their own way be it facing a health scare or starting a new relationship.
I started this book on Saturday and finished it on Monday evening as I found it difficult to put down. You can really identify with the characters and the story unfolds beautifully.
I would rate this book 4.5 stars and definitely recommend it. Thank you to NetGalley, Pan Macmillan and the author for the chance to review.
I love Lucy Diamond books, so was really happy to see that her latest one was available to request on Netgalley and very happy when I was accepted.
This one follows four friends: Eve, India, Jo and Laura who meet up for lunch regularly, on one of these occasions they witness an awful accident just outside the restaurant which changes their outlook on life. Will Eve get the lump in her breast checked out, will Jo take the next step in her new relationship, will Laura get pregnant before her body clock runs out and will India reveal the secret from her past?
Lucy Diamond has a way of creating her characters to make the reader fall in love with them immediately and feel like you've known them for years. Eve's situation, in particular, resonated with me as I had something similar last year and it brought it all back how I felt at the time and I must admit to shedding quite a few tears whilst reading this book.
I really enjoyed this latest one and look forward to the next, I would like to thank Pan MacMillan for the approval and will post my review on Goodreads now and on Amazon on publication day.
The story starts on a beautiful day when four women, four friends meet to celebrate a birthday. They all appear to be happy with their life, but they all have issues that they keep from the others.
After the tragic accident that just about spares them they all decide to face their problems and try to find solutions.
I liked this story a lot although I must admit at first I was not very keen on any of the four main characters. However, later I warmed to them and rooted for them.
The novel has a very interesting plot that shows different relationships and problems the modern woman has to face. It is heartwarming to see the strong friendship between the four women.
My favourite character was the mother of the two sisters who is not your usual mumsy type. She was in the centre of some laugh-out-loud scenes in the otherwise rather bittersweet story.
I do recommend this book to mature women who appreciate stories about friendship and family.
I loved this book! Centred around four friends who have very different lives but share a strong friendship the book explores many issues in a very real and thoughtful way. Relationships, families, health issues, untold secrets are all wound into the fabric of the book and Lucy's understanding of human relationships is very evident.
I loved all the characters and couldn't stop reading until l found out what would happen to each of them.
A beautiful read and one I would recommend wholeheartedly.
Thanks to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for the opportunity to read this brilliant book
India, Jo, Laura and Eve are meeting for lunch to celebrate India’s birthday when an out of control van comes hurtling towards them. At the last minute the van changes course and smashes into a florist. The woman are unhurt but shocked and the accident has them looking at the problems within their own lives and the way they deal with them.
This is an excellent book with interesting characters, each woman has a different dilemma to overcome and the way they help each other through is heartwarming.
Eve who likes to be in control has her life turned upside down by health issues. India has a dark secret from the past that comes back to haunt her. Laura’s marriage is crumbling but is countered by something she has wished for. Jo who is recovering from a marriage break up and the beginnings of a new relationship.
This book had me hooked from the start. A great story about friendship with touches of humour which I recommend.
This novel focuses on 4 woman of about 40 years of age who are each experiencing different crises in their lives. The incident at the beginning of the story leads some of them to re-evaluate their situations and other events also impact on them.
This is a story of families, love, heartache and friendships and how these shape our existence. The characters were good and the story quite believable and well told. High class chick-lit and worth a read.
Four women meet for lunch on a beautiful day in Manchester, when a catastrophic event happens very close to them, which will affect each of them to varying degrees.
Eve’s carefully managed life is about to be derailed by something she can’t control.
Recently divorced Jo’s new relationship hits a major stumbling block.
Laura’s desperate to get pregnant, but is her husband really on side?
And India’s still haunted by something that happened a long time ago, newly fresh in her mind thanks to the consequences of the accident.
As we follow each woman in the following months, each has her life turned upside down in unexpected ways.
I did have trouble remembering which woman was which initially, and I’m not sure I ever completely got to grips with which husband and children belonged to who.
Lucy Diamond always delivers a very engaging read and this is no exception, with likeable characters and relatable storylines. I really enjoyed reading it.
This is a real chicklit story; it’s well written and a thoroughly enjoyable read. This book is set in England, about four friends whose lives are changed by an accident they all witness.
The characters were well written, very likeable and easy to relate to. Eve the compulsive organiser, who needs to be in charge, Jo who having found love now isn’t sure it’s what she really wants, Laura who desperately wants a baby but life is throwing her a curve ball and India who is struggling with a secret from her past, that is eating away at her. I liked them all; they all had fascinating stories to tell, and their friendship is so nice to read about. It made me smile.
This is an easy read with twists and turns aplenty. I did enjoy reading this story but found the storyline a little predictable.
I was given an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest and independent review.
A book about friendships, love, hard times and relationships. I liked the bond between the four friends which was realistic and well developed. Whilst I quite liked the storyline and was interested to see how each of the characters lives turned out, it lacked that little something which makes a book compelling.
