Save me by Mandasue Heller.
When Ellie Fisher misses her train home one night, she has no idea that being in the right place at the wrong time will change her life forever. That night she comes across Gareth, a young man about to take his own life, because as far as he’s concerned there is nothing left to live for. Putting her own life in danger Ellie convinces Gareth that there is always something left. Her own life is no bed of roses, she explains, but she always pushes on.
Brilliant read. Read in one sitting. 5*.
I am a huge fan of Mandasue Heller and I really was looking forward to reading the latest novel by her.
This did not disappoint.
The storyline was great and kept me engrossed.
It was fast paced and i read in a couple of sittings.
I did guess what was happening half way through, but this did not spoil the book for me.
I really enjoyed this and look forward to reading more by the author!
A gripping psychological thriller that had me hooked right from the beginning, full of suspense and a brilliant ending.
Save Me – Mandasue Heller
Excellent book as always, you know what to expect when you pick up a Mandasue Heller novel up until this novel that is. This is a step towards the psychological thriller genre and I have to say that I really enjoyed it.
We are taken to places that most of us will find most of us feeling uncomfortable and how that one good turn can change your life forever. There are still plenty of lies, deceit and familial relationships and just how destructive and volatile they can be for all involved. Amongst all of that there were moments when I wanted to shake the main protagonist Ellie and tell her not to be so naïve.
It’s a difficult book to talk about without giving away too much of the storyline but suffice it to say this is a cracker of a read. It can definitely be read as a standalone but please read this and the other novels this author has written.
Read for an honest review. Thank you Netgalley and Pan MacMillan MacMillan
I have to admit to being a little disappointed in this offering from Mandasue Helller. I am normally a big fan but I found this story lacked her normal gritty story telling. I did continue to read the book in the hope that there would be some massive twist that would make it all worthwhile but unfortunately it never came. Do not let this one title put you off trying other Mandasue Heller titles though as this is not her normal practice.
Bloody brilliant read as always from mandasue. Totally engrossed from start to finish. Highly recommend this book
This book was excellent. Have read many of Mandasue Heller's books and never fails to deliver a good read. Would recommend to anyone.
This is one of those books where you know something terrible is going to happen and you are on the edge of your seat the whole way through, waiting for the axe to fall. The tension was almost unbearable at times as this was such a well written book. None of the characters were particularly appealing but all of them were compelling. Great read.
Save Me was an enjoyable read about Ellie Fisher, a young woman living an average life with an average job and an average husband. However this all changes when, one evening, she stops a young man jumping in front of a train. This simple act of kindness leads to a dark story of jealousy, stalking and murder. My only criticism of the book is that it is very apparent from the beginning who the villain is and therefore, although it is a good read there was no surprise element in this story.
Ellie Fishers fatal movement of missing a train home one night and doing a good deed changes her whole World. Little does she know that been in the right place at the wrong time will change her life forever.
Ellie courageously saves someones life only to have that person invade hers.
Told in true Mandasue style she pulls you right in to the story from the beginning and tells the tale of secrets, lies, jealousy & cruel obsession in her dark gritty way.
Although the plot was predictable and the style different I didn't feel distracted and the ending was just right.
A real page turning thriller perfect for any fans of this genre.
A simple act of kindness goes wrong, but Ellie's own life isn't going that well, so it takes her some time to realise the danger she's in.
Something about the characters never quite rang true for me and the book missed the mark.
Have to hand it to Ellie - she certainly knows how to pick'em! She is naive beyond belief and needs a good talking to as she is extremely irritating, letting everyone walk all over her, a proper little "yes" girl. A character such as Gareth wouldn't have been in the position he was when Ellie and he first met and I felt that was really contrived, as was the complete change in another character from totally selfish to caring in just a couple of pages. It was hard to like anyone at all in this book! I found the first half a bit slow and all just a bit predictable, but did love some of the dialogue. Not as gritty or gripping as the gang land books, but still readable.
I love Mandasue Heller’s books so I was excited when this came out. For reasons unknown to me, and although I enjoyed it I didn’t get the usual buzz from Save Me.
Thanks to Pan Macmillan for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Yet another book where none of the characters are remotely likeable (this seems to be the latest trend in many books)!!
On the face of it, I assume we are meant to like Ellie, but frankly I found her incredibly annoying. Yes, I felt sorry for her - but only so far, as various problems in life (as far as I could tell) were largely of her own making due to her weak character.
Not giving away any plot details (though I understand it's now a TV series), but I could see what was going on.
A good read, but not a favourite with me I'm afraid.
Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for an ARC in return for my honest review.
I have read several books by this author, like previous ones this did not disappoint. I liked how the storyline grew slowly but intensely. It was refreshing to not have a murder in the first few pages.I enjoyed the complexity of the various relationships within the book, from the casual to the serious ones.It made me think how easily we can be duped and influenced by someone we may hardly know. I am sure that the author did a great deal of research before writing this book and to think that there are people like the villain living in society is a sobering thought.I would definitely recommend this book to family and friends.
Being a big fan of Mandasue Heller, I didn’t read the blurb so was shocked as to how different this was to her usual style. I disliked the characters immensely and wanted to shake some and punch others for 70% of the story! The pace quickened towards the end however i’d already worked out what was happening in the first few chapters. A disappointing read for me unfortunately.
I usually enjoy books by Mandasue Heller but a bit undecided with this one, Definitely not one of her better books. I really did not like the characters from the beginning and the plot was just average and very predictable. It was a bit slow and tedious going for me. I am disappointed with this one. Thanks to Net Galley for my copy. I reviewed on Amazon, Goodreads and Facebook.
I am a massive fan of Mandasue Hellers books and was excited to read this one. While it was a good read I didn't enjoy it as much as her others . It wasn't her usual type of book and I found it quite predictable and guessed what was going to happen quite early on. A 3.5 star read for me
Thank you very much to NetGalley, Bookouture and Mandasue Heller for the advance copy of Save me in return for an honest review.
This is the first book I've read by this author but it definitely won't be my last. One night as Ellie is on her way home from work she encounters Gareth who is about to throw himself in front of a train but she manages to talk him round but he sets out to thank her afterwards and things turn creepy. An excellent read that kept me hooked till the end.
Thanks a million Netgalley and Bookouture. Mandasue Heller is an amazing author and Save Me is true to form. I just couldn't put it down. I would highly recommend it.
