This was an intriguing read with fresh ideas. The two leads were both very well developed, the romance was steamy and engaging. Some of the dialogues were amazing. The only downside is that the plot was very complex and there were a lot of characters so it got confusing at times.
Fascinating read. This is my first Shea Godfrey read and I'm enthusiastic about reading more.
The blurb doesn't really give up enough of what this book is about. It has so many deep and intricate layers that it's not always clear while you're reading, but as you're reading it you're loving it.
The time movement was a struggle sometimes but not in the way that I didn't enjoy, more that it took me in different directions. It gave me small nuggets of information along the way.
Elements may not appeal to everyone and I suppose I'm not a huge fan of some areas but it is still kind of 4.5/5 for me but I'm all in for the whole 5.
In King of Thieves, Godfrey builds amazing tension by placing her romantic leads on opposite sides of an interesting line. Cassandra Marinos has many aliases and is a thief. And she’s really good. Finn Starkweather used to be Interpol but is now an independent contractor. Finn has been following Casey and her many aliases for years, but when the two finally meet, sparks fly well beyond her imagination. Both ladies have some heavy pasts, and their current situations aren’t exactly ideal for a romantic tryst, but they cannot resist each other. As the two get closer, their pasts come running, and they’ll both have a lot to overcome if they can ever hope for a happily ever after.
I really enjoyed this, and while it took me longer to read than I would have liked, I am glad I took the time to fully appreciate the intrigue of this book. I liked the characters, and even though I wasn't a huge fan of some of the relationship dynamics, it by no means detracted from my enjoyment of the book. Will definitely recommend.
An honest review thanks to NetGalley. Wow. I was not expecting much when I picked this up but was so surprised as I started reading. This book was off the charts amazing, the chemistry between Finn and Casey and the mystery surrounding how Finn knew Casey kept me reading. The intrigue and mystery gave it something more than just an awesome romance. This is a great read that you will not regret picking up!
I didn't enjoy this book as much as I would have liked to. The time jumping threw me off from time to time. I also wasn't as interested in the plot as I thought.
The chemistry between the main characters was good and they were well written. The story was a bit confusing at some points but in the end it all tied together nicely and explained some confusing points from before, It is not a light and quick read - it needs the reader to pay attention and think. It goes back and forth between times a lot, which can make the reader get lost at some points.
I really enjoyed this book! It was a great story with mystery and romance providing a perfect pace that kept me hooked throughout the book. Casey and Finn were great characters who I fell in love with very quickly. The romance was perfect for me so sweet and I loved every part.
I will say the story was slightly different to what I thought initially however that didn't bother me because I did enjoy it. I also will say that it is a book that needs you to think and pay attention (not a light read) I had to go back and check some dates so I didn't get lost.
I highly recommend the read.
King of Thieves. Shea Godfrey's new book gives us a look at the life of an art thief and the person trying to find her. Cassandra (Cassy) Marino, art thief extraordinaire, takes what she wants and has never been caught. Finnegan Starkweather (O’Connell) worked for Interpol before working as a Bounty Hunter who always found who she was looking for. Godfrey's book is the kind of book where you have to pay attention because there are more than a few moving parts. She has us going back and forth in time, all the while weaving a story about art thieves and those seeking them. First time I’ve read a book by Godfrey and now I find I have no choice but to go find her other books because if they are half as good as this one it will be well worth my time. A very good book I enjoyed working through.
First let me say I dont enjoy stories that flip back and forth from the present to the future, back and forth, back and forth. And keep me confused all the way through until the last chapter.
That being said.....this story of revenge, family loyalty and romance, was pretty good. The dialog and chemistry between the two lovers was terrific and very hot.
My main complaint was the format of going back and forth in time. I had to go back many times to reread sections in order to follow the story line. Too much confusion, too much work for the reader.
But the 2 lead characters, Casey and Finn and their relationship was terrific. That made it worth reading.
The complex tale that I was seeking this month and devoured. As an author, Ms. Godfrey produces tales of consistent value and absorbing characters, themes which were continued in "Thieves."
This is an intrigue with a lot of characters and a very complex plot that makes logical sense towards the end. There is also a pretty intense romance aspect to the story with two very strong and interesting leads. It's impressively done and adds a lot to the story. I'm very pleasantly surprised with this for me new author and will definitely read her other books. Highly recommended.
I’m struggling between a 3 1/2 to 4 stars rating. This is a 4 star book in quality but more of a 3 1/2 stars for my personal tastes. I’m a huge Shea Godfrey fan. Her Arravan series just filled my fantasy loving heart. It has been so long since she wrote another book that I have been waiting years. I was so excited to get my hands on this that I had to read it immediately. I have to admit it wasn’t exactly what I was hoping for, but it was extremely well written.
Cassandra is an art thief about to cash in on her biggest score. When she meets Finnegan, a bounty hunter who looks for stolen artwork, she knows she is in trouble. But she can’t help being drawn in to Finn. Is a relationship between an art thief and bounty hunter destined to fail, or are they truly meant to be together?
This is much more of a cerebral read than I expected. I did not expect it to be so deep in parts and even poetic. Some of the lines were really wonderful especially between Cass and Finn. It is not the easiest read though. It is the kind of book you really need to pay attention to. Little clues are dropped and the story slowly unfolds. The story did jump around to the past and present a lot. You are always told when a jump is happening so it is not confusing, but you do have to read this book carefully so you don’t miss anything.
The love story of Cass and Finn is pretty intense. I have to be careful not to spoil anything here, but I will say there is more to this love story than you would expect and I enjoyed that aspect a lot. The chemistry they have together is excellent and the sex scenes are pretty steamy. Though I do have to say I wasn’t big on Cass calling Finn “Daddy”. Instead of being sexy this always rolls my stomach. I’d be okay with Ma’am or Sir but “Daddy” just icks me out. I was glad this term was not overused.
This book is labeled under intrigue and I think that is the perfect word to describe it. As I said before I like how the story played out and everything fit together at the end. There are small bits of excitement in the book but not too much. I was disappointed that one small plot thread was left hanging. I was getting towards the end of the book and kept waiting for it to be explained, but it wasn’t. So that I’m not happy with, I want to know!
I don’t think this book will be to everyone tastes. But if you are looking for more of a cerebral read, that you can sink your teeth into, give this a shot. I am so happy Shea is writing again, 3 years was such a long wait. I eagerly look forward to her next book. Oh and if you are a fantasy fan, don’t pass up her book Nightshade.
An ARC was given to me by BSB, for a honest review.
