I really wanted to love this after her first two books, but it didn't grip me.
It was enjoyable but I did have it sussed out early on.
None of the suspense that I felt in the previous books.
There are lots of people giving 5 star reviews, maybe it's just me.
Thanks to the publishers for an ARC copy.
Fab book - I read it in 2 days completely gripping! Each chapter ends with you wanting to know more! Finn and Layla are driving back home from a holiday in France , they stop at a service station but only Finn gets home - what happens to Layla? skip to 12 years later and Layla has never been found and Finn has moved on with his life but still wonders what happened to Layla - he didn't tell the police the whole truth...Its a compelling page turner . I kept thinking I knew what happened and then something else happened and I changed my mind.
If you want a book that you can't put down then this is for you !
I felt that this book was slightly different to the style of thrillers that B A Paris usually writes. There was no evil villain who gets their just desserts that I have loved in her two previous novels. Having said this, I did really enjoy this book and the twist at the end. A brilliant writer and a fantastic story.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this novel.
Finn is moving on with his life after the tragic disappearance of his girlfriend 12 years earlier. He has a new partner and is preparing to marry and try to finally but the past behind him.
The story then passes to another timeline, it is 12 years ago and details of the fateful night are retold. We learn a lot about Finn through this and how his past will not stay buried for long.
I really loved this book. It was gripping throughout and on numerous occasions I tried (and failed) to second guess the ending.
I have awarded 4 stars rather that 5 because I am not sure that the ending is quite plausible. Highly recommended though and this book prompted hours of discussion with friends and family!
B A Paris is truly the queen of mind bending psychological trillers. You think you know where she is going and then bang your back to square one.
The story is narrated by the two main characters point of view, and what tangled web that is. I didn’t find the characters very likeable at all and this did annoy me a little.
I’m not going to go into the story and this is something that needs to be read and not spoiled in a long review.
This is the kind of book that you need to pick up and have the time to read in one sitting because when one chapter ends you can’t wait for the next to begin.
I was one of the many readers excited to see a new B A Paris book being released; B A Paris is the queen of the cliffhanger chapter ending and she should really be known as B A 'Just One More Chapter' Paris. The only problem with reading just one more chapter is that you get to a point where you might as well stay up and finish the whole book! So start this one on a Friday night and you'll be all set for an up-all-night read-a-thon.
Finn isn't a character I warmed to at all, I just felt like he knew a lot more about Layla's disappearance that he's letting on. I was also deeply suspicious of the way they met, he seemed to fall in love with her across a crowded tube station and I feared that he loved the idea of Layla more than he loved her. When Layla goes missing on a holiday in France, Finn is naturally put under the spotlight. He admits that he lied to the police, making the reader enter the speed-reading Olympics to find out the whole story. My dislike for Finn continued as we find out that he is now engaged to Layla's sister, Ellen, which seemed like it was a bit too easy for him to just replace one with the other. Finn becomes spooked when replicas of Layla's missing Russian doll start to appear...Finn knows they are replicas as he has the original one. Then Finn gets an email from Layla...
This is another superb page-turner from B A Paris; although I did work some of it out, I still thought it was very well played out. I think my intense dislike for Finn and identifying his shallowness made my brain go into overdrive and I could see all of the things he couldn't see. I loved the ability to put Finn and Ellen's relationship under a microscope; a relationship that only started due to Layla's disappearance and is built on Finn's lies. Ellen just wants to know that Finn loves her more than Layla, but does he?
I don't imagine that I will ever be disappointed by a B A Paris book: she is the queen of the cliffhanger chapter ending, the duchess of suspense and the master weaver of a tangled web of intrigue. Prepare to be up all night reading this one!
I chose to read an ARC and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.
BA Paris has done it again with this latest thriller ..... Girlfriend disappears 12 years prior our main character Finn has his life back and has settled with his ex's girlfriend but not is all as it seems!!! A great twisty plot that kept me guessing until the very end - read this book you will not be disappointed!!!
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book. This has got to be the best psychological book I’ve read this year. I kind of knew what was going to happen between chapters 30 to 35. I couldn’t put this book down and didn’t stop reading until I finished it. Definitely recommend this book to anyone. And definitely worth 5stars. It makes you wonder what people who are like that goes through everyday. It’s deadly...
“Bring Me Back by B.A.Paris is a psychological thriller that I really wanted to like! The blurb had intrigued me – a happy couple on their way back from a holiday; stopping for a break; the young woman has disappeared when her boyfriend returns to the car.
This is how the novel begins and it did draw me in. Finn, the young man, is devastated at the loss of his lovely Layla. After searches had been made, it’s decided that Layla has died. Twelve years pass and Finn’s life improves no end when he meets Ellen, Layla’s sister. Eventually, they fall in love and Finn proposes to her. However, the future which they envision is badly ruffled when it appears that Layla may, in fact, be alive.
Up until this point, I was enjoying the novel, but for me, the middle section dragged and was repetitious. About two thirds of the way through, I had guessed how it would end. I’ve read quite a number of crime novels and prefer more intricate plots than is offered in “Bring Me Back.” The pace picked up again in the final section which helped redeem it for me.
I liked the fact that the story was told through the eyes of both Finn and Layla and although the pace was uneven, the writing flowed. I think this is ideal as a quick, uncomplicated read for the beach or a cold winter’s day.
Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to access this novel, in return for an honest review.
B.A. Paris never fails to write a great novel that drags you on and keeps you guessing and this latest book doesn’t disappoint. I read it in one day and will be recommending! A great story that keeps you thinking throughout.
Wow I finished this in less than 24 hours. Once I started I couldn’t put it down. I needed to know the full story and what had happened to Layla. The story is all about Finn who’s girlfriend goes missing, and 12 years on things start to surface about what might have happened. Usually with similar books I find myself working out what’s happening quite early on but I realised 86% into the book! It’s very cleverly written, and we see Finns view and also Layla’s view too. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes a physiological thriller or even those who don’t. It certainly keeps your attention and grips you until the end!
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
This is the second thriller/mystery novel I've read by B A Paris, and I can't help but be a little disappointed once again.
The big twist was so easy to figure out that the last half of the book felt like a bit of a waste of time. The characters always seem to be two-dimensional, and the background, explanations, and events are never really fleshed out enough to feel like real motives.
I may be being picky, but for this type of novel I need a watertight denouement without so many inconsistencies.
Saying that, if you're looking for an easy beach read, it does exactly what it says on the tin. Just don't expect to use much brainpower!
Thanks to Harper Collins for this digital birthday gift.
I'll admit i was tempted to restart the book after the 2nd chapter as Im sure I missed something that makes it more obvious that we are following the story from Finns perspective - but i shook myself out of it and stopped the focus on whether i was reading as a male or female character.and just enjoyed the story as it unfolded.
All through the story I didn't know who to trust, or where the next twist would come from or take me.
perfect!
What an absolute belter of a book. I was drawn in from the first page and finally emerged three hours later, emotionally stunned. One of the best books I have read this year without a doubt.
I was so lucky to get an early copy of this book and couldn't put it down. Bring me Back is full of more twists and turns than a rollercoaster, and is so intriguing you dont want to put it down. The only reason for the 4 stars is I figured out the plot twist early on. This was a thourghly enjoyable book and I would highly recommend it.
24 hours later and I have finished bring me back and wow! I have read ba Paris before and this didn’t disappoint....;Finns girlfriend disappeared and now suddenly is she back?! Well it’s not going to be straightforward is it...but it sure is good! Cancel your plans and stay in! I’m still buzzing!
This book was so unexpected.
I've never read one of the authors books before, although I have read plenty of good reviews so when I spotted this novel on Netgalley I just knew I had to give it a go.
What I got was a story that was well written, full of suspense and drama and something that made me want to turn the pages at a rapid rate.
A missing girlfriend, the devoted boyfriend but what is truth and what is lies? A tale told from dual points of view, the question that you'll be asking is, how well can you really know somebody?
This is a psychological thriller that hits the spot. There was no way that I could have guessed the ending, so clever you'll be reading it again to see if you can spot the clues that you missed.
Story about two sisters who were abused, when one died the other became schizophrenic and you had to feel sorry for her. The book was ok, but could have been better. Thanks for letting me read this book every book to me is a gift, I just love reading.
Excellent read. You think you know where a story is going, but then you realise it's going in a completely different direction. Just as you think one thing..... everything changes. Recommend highly!
