Wow this book had be hooked from page one! B A Paris' first two books were so good that I was keen to see if the third would compare. It certainly did.
The writing style flows and keeps you captivated. The story is told from the two main characters POVs, Finn and Layla.. There are a few characters involved in the story which we get to know well throughout the book. Every time I thought I had it all worked out, my theory was thrown out. The red herrings came thick and fast. I think I suspected almost everybody at some stage.
I could not wait to find out the end but didn't want it to end - to me that proves to be a brilliant book,
Can't recommend highly enough.
I was delighted to receive a review copy of this book as I loved this author's first two books. However, I was a bit disappointed in this one I am sorry to say. I loved the way the story was told from the point of view of the two main characters and I certainly couldn't stop reading it! However, when we are reading Finn's point of view, there is a lot of repetition. I also felt the end was too well signposted, but this could be because I read so much of this genre. There were quite a few twists in the story and it was immensely readable, I would certainly recommend it to fans of psychological thrillers, but I personally felt it didn't quite live up to the first two books.
A heartwarming love story, gripping psychological thriller with a plot twist that kept me guessing and hoping i was wrong. B A Paris has written her best book yet. #BAParis #bring me back
Earlier this year I read The Breakdown and absolutely loved it so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this. I’m sorry to say that I was left disappointed… There are a handful of reviews already out there all raving about this Bring Me Back, so much so that I had to question whether I had even read the same book as everyone else. It’s not a bad book, that much I will say, but I found myself bored by the repetition and, what I felt was, unnecessary padding.
The prologue lulled me into a sense of intrigue and high hopes that ultimately failed to deliver. Finn and Layla are driving home through France on their way back from a skiing trip, when a stop to use the bathroom at a rest area on the motorway results in the disappearance of Layla. Originally suspected of murder and then released, Finn continues on with his life only to meet and fall in love with Layla’s sister Ellen. Twelve years after her disappearance, and shortly after Finn’s proposal to Ellen, Finn starts receiving messages of sightings and is the recipient of strange goings-on that would only mean something to the three of them – Finn, Ellen and Layla. Is Layla alive after all? And if so, where has she been all these years?
Maybe I read too many of these types of books but the red herrings weren’t fishy enough for me and the outcome became obvious to me very early on so it almost became a let-down to be proved right as I love a good shock ending. The plus points are that there are unreliable narrators and despite (in my view) a middle that sagged between a good start and a good ending, I still turned the pages fairly quickly.
Verdict:
Lots to like and will no doubt be a roaring success like her previous books, but it didn’t quite hit the mark for me.
Having read B. A. Paris’ previous two books I was excited to receive a copy of Bring Me Back. I read this book in a handful of sittings because the writing style and story hooked me in quickly. There are enough characters and twists and turns to keep you guessing throughout and just before the end I thought I had it all figured out... I was on the right track but there were still surprises to be revealed! I liked seeing the alternating perspectives of Finn and Layla across differing timespans (before and now), and was very satisfied with the tying up of loose ends at the end of the book. This was an enjoyable read and I would definitely recommend it to a friend. Four stars rather than five because I had almost managed to work out the ending, and I prefer to be hit with a shocker.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy in return for an honest review.
Having been a massive fan of the first two books by B A Paris I was thrilled when I was sent this to review and it most certainly didn't disappoint . It had me hooked from the outset and although I did guess the twist I was still questioning it right until the last chapter We get the story from both Finn and Layla , we understand from early on in the book that Lyla is missing presumed dead and that Finn wasn't exactly truthful about her disappearance . From here there are so many twists and turns , so many red herrings and as you would expect from this author a great twist . Fantastic , I loved it . Thank you so much for the opportunity to read and review this .
And she does it again . This author is fast becoming one of my favourites . I honestly couldn’t put this book down . Told in alternating chapters between the two main characters I guarantee you will be racing through this as your heart gallops with you . Full of secrets and twists and turns I simply loved it ! Thanks so much to the publisher and netgalley for the opportunity to read
Cancel all your plans until you have devoured this, you will not be sleeping tonight. Bring Me Back is one of the most anticipated books of 2018 and has to be one of the best books I have read this year.
I was hooked from the prologue. Bring Me Back is fast paced, gripping, thrilling and one of those stories you will not want to put down. You will also want to read it in one sitting. This story starts when Layla goes missing but where did she go? The chapters within flick between before and now but are set out clearly so theres no confusion for the reader.
I have read all of B.A.Paris’s books so far and this has to be the best one yet. I was blown away. What an excellent book! Bring Me Back will be released March 2018 and I would highly recommend you all go pre-order it or add it to your lists now as this is going to be a bestseller. A well deserved five stars from me. Keeps you guessing until the end and on the edge of your seat.
WOW!!! This book literally had me gripped from start to finish. The twists, turns and constant second guessing made it a refreshing change from the normal relationship whodunnits. Each character had such depth that it was easy to suspect them one minute then kick yourself the next. This book was an absolute joy to read
Having read both BA Paris books, I was so excited to be accepted to read and review Bring Me Back, I was absolutely blown away by the brilliant put-together storyline, it was such an addictive read, and have no doubt that Bring Me Back will be a bestseller.
An amazingly twisted story that keeps you guessing right until the end . Your head will spin and your heart will stop in places . A rollercoaster of a story that you qont want to end
A truly bizarre, twisted read...... None of the characters are particularly likeable and although the plot is easy to follow this is definitely the strangest book I've read this year.
A massive thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
The story unfolds between Finn who is engaged to Ellen, who is the sister of Layla, who went missing 12 years ago. Layla was in a relationship with Finn when she went missing. Finn and Ellen lead a happy life when small items start appearing supposedly from Layla.
Has Layla returned from being kidnapped? Did she fake her own death? Is this the sinister messages from someone who wants to screw with Finn?
When I received the email to let me know I was receiving an arc, everything fell to the side, I was absorbed in this book and BA Paris is at the top of her game with this! Definitely deserves the title of queen of the psychological thriller!
A short review as I can't say I fully understood what was going on and what happened at the end of this book.
Good parts - God the writing is good - snappy, comepeliling and it made me turn the pages quickly. I wanted to know, had to know what was going on. Where was Layla, why had she gone missing? That scene in the rest stop in France had me feeling very disturbed. Even sleepy Devon didn't allay my fears - when he finds out that someone is following him, watching him and leaving messages around town, on his car etc.....Brrrrr
It's just too far fetched and I felt really let down when I realised what had happened. No spoilers here mind, but it left me feeling empty so I had to go and eat some chocolate to cheer myself up. Didn't care for any of the characters apart from Mr Winter. This will probably be a hit with many people but it's left me puzzled. Not one for me.
Firstly a huge thank you to the publishers and the author for my ARC copy sent with a tea bag, energy bar and an extremely useful book light that came in very handy as the promotional hashtag is #forgetsleep which I did and read this way past my bedtime.
Bring me Back is a superb page turner full of twists, turns, red herrings and great characters.
The story is told through alternating chapters between our two main characters who have more secrets then the KGB, the tension is built up very quickly and doesn’t waver. Each chapter had me utterly gripped and desperate to keep reading to find out who, why, when, what?
If you like your psychological thrillers full of dark secrets, unstable or unreliable narrators, more twists and turns than a rollercoaster I would definitely suggest pre-ordering this now. You won’t be disappointed!
