This was a brilliant read. As soon as I started reading this book I just knew I was going to love it. Highly recommended
We all bend the truth a little on social media, a filter or two or a little lie here and there. This scintillating tale of social media is a thrilling take on the insatiable appetite of approval and attention via the internet. Loved it!
A well-written thriller that had me gripped from the start. Will be looking out for this author in the future.
Meet Holly, successful health food blogger, published author, who everyone loves. Until one chance meeting. One by one, pieces of her life start to crash with one person orchestrating the lot. Maybe not everyone loves Holly after all!
The way Holly’s life gradually came undone felt uncomfortable to start with but the more I learnt from Tyler and got inside Holly’s head, the less I felt sorry for the young blogger. I’m not saying she deserved what Tyler orchestrated but Holly isn’t totally innocent in this.
As the story flip between past and present and Tyler and Holly, I had to keep up. Which of my unreliable narrators do I believe? The guy obsessed with destroying an influencer or the influencer who lied? Tough choice!!
Heydenrych’s debut is intricately crafted to keep me glued to my kindle. Having read The Pact a couple of years ago, I knew I’d be in for a treat. I was intrigued by the why and really wanted to know the what next. How would this all end. What an addictive thriller!
Omg omg omg .......... this book was amazing I could not put it down I read every word on the edge of my seat I loved the story line, i loved the way the story just kept us guessing all the way threw I loved all the twists and turns and would defiantly recommend this book it was so believable and kept the reader engaged I love it
This novel is a prime example why you should never share your live location on your stories and why shouldn’t live your life through social media!
Fast paced and engaging, Shame on You was an exciting read. Is it a book I’d be desperate to read again? No. But a fun read nonetheless.
Clever, relevant and a sound warning to all of those who live their lives on social media! Do you really know all of those people whose lives you follow on Instagram? More importantly, do you know who follows you? When you post those carefully posed selfie's; that skilfully styled plate of food; that artfully placed piece of furniture ... who comments; who 'likes'? How do you ever really know?
Holly is a cancer survivor, and she's made herself into a self-styled social media influencer. She's built herself an online empire based on her holistic, clean living lifestyle. But someone out there knows that Holly isn't quite all she's cracked up to be, and when she's attacked one night, it becomes clear that someone's watching, and waiting to bring everything that Holly has so carefully built, crumbling to the ground around her!
This is a very clever, fast-paced and well-plotted cautionary tale for all the social media addicts out there, and should especially be recommended reading for teens as a warning that what you see on your Instagram feed isn't necessarily always the truth. It brings to mind something I once heard (unfortunately I don't know who said it, so can't give credit to them): "Even the girl in the magazine doesn't look like the girl in the magazine," There is so much fakery out there, so much is air-brushed, photoshopped, highlighted, saturated, tinted, lowlighted, etc. etc. that sometimes, virtually (excuse the pun) nothing of the original photo is left!
Amy Heydenrych, well done for this very well written and highly enjoyable book.
This was a fantastic, gripping, and almost too real book. We all know what these bloggers are like, and Holly really embodied how they are. I was a little confused by the timeline at times between the characters but I'm glad I persevered with it because it was a brilliant thriller.
Holly is a social media star - she has fought cancer and won, and now she lives a healthy lifestyle.
One night out, Holly is attacked, beaten and injured badly. She worries about how her fans see her now. This book shows you the dangers of social media, and how you can be perceived, and perceive yourself in the eyes of others.
Sorry for the long delay in reviewing this book I was very ill for a while and have only just managed to regain access back to my account. I very much loved this book and the author and hope I will be able to read many more of their titles.
This was an intriguing premise, modern and relevant, and well-written but ultimately felt repetitive and a bit preachy.
Holly is a social influencer. She has recently beaten cancer and has adopted a new, healthy lifestyle, turning vegan and acquiring a whole new following.
However, one night she is violently attacked and events that surround the aftermath of the attack make Holly believe that she is living a lie.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book.
Throughout this book, I was questioning just how safe I really am online. There was so much tension built up in this novel.
I really enjoyed the way the author explored the concept of being "Insta-Famous" and the depths people will go to to be popular and loved, particularly online.
Shame On You's plot is extremely engrossing and is unlike anything I've read before. Psychological Thrillers would be one of my favourite genres but a lot of the time I can find myself feeling a sense of deja-vu as they can be very "samey". This however has a very unique plot which kept me reading.
The two main characters - Holly and Tyler are very complex. The author really makes you go through a plethora of emotions as you learn more about them. You catch yourself thinking "well, I can understand why they did that..." but you still may not like them. I thought the characters were extremely well written. Although some of the little inconsequential choices Holly makes in the book annoy me (the locks Holly! The locks!!!) and I scratched my head a bit?!
The ending was good but I think I expected a bit more, although I feel like there is probably a second book coming which I would 100% most definitely read!
This book gets three and a half stars for me as it was well written, pacey and the characters are complex and make you really think.
I would firstly like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I couldn't stop reading this one! I felt so much empathy for Holly! It really really shows just how much social media influences people's lives and how it can effect both positively and negatively.
The story was gripped and very well written. My heart was pounding the whole way through - purely because I really wanted Holly to be ok.
A great read and I'm really looking forward to reading this author's latest read, 'The Pact'.
Shame on You by Amy Heydenrych is a stunnin gpsychological thriller for today's generation of social media addicts.
Sadly this one didn't work for me. The premise was so intriguing but the actuality was sloppy writing and I found myself skimming.
This was an interesting story and it's different to what I would normally read. I struggled at times but I did complete the book. It is relevant as social media is so widely used.
I love a good mystery and this fits that perfect.
Kept me guessing throughout.
I would really recommend this to anyone who loves a good thriller/ mystery
This was very quick and easy to get into, this book had me on the very end of my seat all the way through.
A very current read with the focus on social media, that had me gripped throughout. This book makes you sit back and reflect whilst being gripped with the storyline as it unfolds. I could feel myself tense up as I was reading and wanted to know what would next be uncovered about Holly.
Shame on You is really a tale of two unrelentingly unpleasant people who hold the world responsible for all of their bad luck. Holly is an Instagram queen, who cured herself of cancer by eating a raw vegan diet. Well, that is what she claims. When she is attacked and disfigured the social media world is shocked to the core. But Holly knows that the man seems to know her somehow, seems to know that she isn't what she seems. Now she lives in fear, not for her real life but for her online existence.
It's difficult reading books like this sometimes as I'm an old-fashioned kind of girl and like someone to root for. There is no one to root for in this book. Holly is self-centred and deluded and her tormentor vicious and delusional. And yet this book really pulled me in. As each secret is revealed (just when you think it can't get worse it does) the tension builds between them. There has to be a reckoning but how and where that will happen is hidden until the climax. When it comes the ending is just about as good as you could hope - books like this struggle to conclude sometimes but the author seemed to know exactly where she wanted this to head. An enjoyable quick read.
