It starts with a moustache. No it's not a new love interest but a U.S. Imigration officer. Lou is in New York! Returning to these books is like seeing an old friend again, I was so broken by Me Before You it's so good to know Lou's doing OK (yes, I know she's not real).
The first chapter gives a clue to how the third book will play out. She's taken a job in a posh New York building, being a "companion" to an old lady. We haven't met her new employer yet but I get the feeling she'll be worlds apart from Will. There's a hint of class divides, the luxurious apartment versus Lou's tiny cupboard of a room.
Lou's pretty excited to be in America and I'm excited to read more!
I read the first chapter of this book last night and was hooked from the start. Very relatable character who is starting afresh in New York. Plenty of elements to get into, lost love, new love, new job, new friends and employer, the makings of a great little read.
Reading Jojo Moyes is like putting your slippers on after a 12 your shift; finding your favourite biscuits on special offer or getting a huge hug from a loved one. It’s great to be back in the life of Lou. Having just arrived in Manhattan, with best friend for support; her enthusiasm for the city and new life is contagious. I can’t wait to read what’s next for this girl who once seemed destined for just tragedy
Meet Lou, following on from the loss of a loved one she finds herself tackling a new challenge. Leaving behind family and a new boyfriend we meed Lou as she arrives in New York, excited and nervous about the prospect of a new job. Can't wait to see what adventures follow and challenges she is faced with. Jojo Moyes is back with another bestseller
I missed Louisa! It's like seeing an old friend again. Very much enjoyed reading the first chapter of 'Still Me' and can't wait to read the rest of it! These first pages already had me laughing out loud and reduced to tears. I love that there is a third book with Louisa and the backdrop of New York promises to keep it interesting as always. Bring on the full release!
Thank you NetGalley and Penguin books for the opportunity to read a sneak preview of this book. From the first chapter, I can already see that Jo Jo is still on form and that this book will not fail to deliver. If you enjoyed any of her previous books featuring Louisa Clark (Me Before You, After You) then you’re going to love this.
What a great start to a book. Lou Clark sounds a great character. She's just arrived in the USA to start a new job. The words I jotted down were: Lou Clark: excited, nervous energy, gushing, optimistic, full of wonder, breath of fresh air. I'm pretty sure it won't all be upbeat. I think Lou may face some dilemmas and have decisions to make by the sound of things but I really want to read the rest of the book to find out what happens.
I think I must be the only person who hasn't read Me Before You and Still Me. I'm not sure why. I've heard lots of good things about Me Before You (I haven't even seen the film) and now I really want to read both books. Well now that gap is about to be filled. My local library has them in digital format and I've requested them.
How do I rate a 'first chapter' based only on that chapter? I want to give it 5 stars.
Chapter one taster provided by Netgalley!
Oh Louisa how I have missed her! I love her quirky character so much! Chapter one had me giggling right from the start, then suddenly she talks about Will and the giggles turned to tears!
I can't wait to read the full story and see how Louisa copes in New York! Or should I say how New York copes with Lou!!! Very excited to read the full book!
So far I've only read Me Before You which I loved. I've got After You but am saving it up for a special read - I need to hurry as this book (no. 3) is out in January! I love this sample of the opening chapter and it certainly has me eager to read the whole book.
Jojo Moyes has a great style of writing where she just gives enough character and interest to hook you into the story early on in the book. I was slightly disconcerted by the lighthearted banter of central character Lou Clark with the US Immigration offiical as in my experience that just doesn't happen. Especially if you are trying to enter the country to work, But I am loving the new setting of Manhattan and having spent some time there and visited this style of apartments on the Upper East Side I can say Jojo Moyes has set the scene and location perfectly.
We've already met Ashok the porter of the buiilding and Iiaria the housekeeper who's not overly friendly. I'm already looking forward to meeting Mr Gopnik and his family. And to find out more about Lou's new job as a 'sort of paid companion'.
With thanks to ,Netgalley for t he chance to read this sample first chapter of Still Me. I can't wait to read the rest.
You know when you haven't seen an old friend for a while and you slip straight back into everything like you have never been away. That is how I felt reading this.
Really looking forward to reading the whole book.
It was a great surprise to hear there was a follow up book from this series on its way. I've read the first chapter and was very disappointed when it came to an end! The continuity of characters is great but placing it in a totally new environment will really add to the story. I'm really looking forward to publication as I've a feeling the uniform will be an issue!
Louise is back and she is still the same loveable character that we have got to know through Me Before You, After You and now Still Me. Still scatty with that weird sense of humour which starts at Immigration, Louise is off on a new adventure, reacquainting herself with Nathan, a friend she got to know whilst looking after Will, someone she misses terribly and I cannot wait to see what this role in New York will bring but I cannot wait to see what happens.
I fell in love with Louisa Clark from the minute I picked up Me Before You and since then her quirkiness and lively spirit has only grown on me. I was thrilled to get the first chapter of Still Me and it was with so much happiness that I refound Louisa's unique voice. I'm so glad that she's in New York and following her passion for travel. I find it very fitting that she still thinks about Will, anyone who has suffered loss realises that 2 years is nothing and that being in New York would obviously reignite her thoughts of him.
I'm excited to discover New York with Louisa, and I am so intrigued as I already get the feeling that nothing is as it seems.
I would like to thank Netgalley, Michael Joseph Publishers and JoJo Moyes for the copy of the first chapter of her new book, Still Me, for my honest review.
A throughly engaging beginning to the novel with Lou finding her way out of the airport and to the new job in New York with her friend Nathan.
The description and commentary, particularly as Lou ventures out on the streets for the first time is striking. I can’t wait to read the rest especially to find out how the housekeeper character develops.
Lou Clark has decided to head to New York as she has been offered a job. The book opens with her in the immigration hall at the airport and her discussion with the officer at the desk in arrivals. She mumbles about why she is there and what she has been through in the past and you find yourself wondering whether she will be able to work in New York or not. Luckily he let's her! And then she encounters the city. Being only one chapter it is only the introduction but I am a big fan of Moyes and I look forward to reading the rest of this book once it is available.
As soon as I started to read the first few lines of this chapter I was immediately back in Louisa Clark's world. Fabulous that's she's back. Love the way JoJo Moyes writes her characters and how the story unfolds. Felt cheated that I only had one chapter to read, wanted more! Can't wait to read the whole book.
I instantly stopped my day and devoured the first chapter, forever eager for more knowledge of Louisa and her travels. I can already tell that this book is going to give me what I want (and need!) Book two offered me the initial closure after the heart-shattering events in book one but I still long for more. Louisa is off to America for this next story and I am SOOO excited to see what adventures she goes on this year and I hope more of her quirky and awesome personality shines through in this one.
What do you think of the cover? I personally LOVE IT. I love the 'black and yellow stripes' look and the little bumblebee.
I am also really excited about more Louisa and Nathan, as I really liked their relationship. Honestly, in the second book, I was a little disappointed in Louisa - I completely understood her loss and felt compassionate but I just missed happy go lucky and charming Louisa. I missed her go-get-it attitude at the end of book one, I just wanted to jump into the book and tell her to live the life Will wanted her to.
This chapter is already so telling - she has upped her life and moved to America, she is exploring the unknown and pushing herself. I LOVE IT and wish Jojo Moyes could release a book a year about Louisa because I feel like she is my friend.I also hope we hear more about Lilly and Sam in this one!!!!
You will not be disappointed... Louisa is back and is as charming, wonderful, kind, strong, quirky and curious as ever.
I loved the first book. I cried like a baby at the film. I was overjoyed when there was a follow-up to Me Before You but now I’m hooked with the teaser for Still Me and not sure I can wait till January. Just enough of a snifter to make you want to devour the whole book in one-sitting...what better way to be left in a coffee shop, in New York with a warm, buttered muffin?!
A great quick paced first chapter reminding us of the loveable character Louisa. Can't wait to follow her on her adventures in New York
