I have to admit I have never read a Jojo Moyes book! I always thought they weren't for me. How wrong I was! I'm actually disappointed I had to stop reading after one chapter. I loved this sample of her new book, Still Me and I am going to read the other two books before Still Me comes out. I have a new author I like, brilliant!
Thanks Netgalley for introducing me to Jojo Moyes.
Loved this first chapter, where Lou arrives in New York. Very descriptive and great how it touches briefly on what happened previously and gives an insight to what to expect in the rest of the book.
Can't wait to read the full book, and might just have to re-read the first two before the new book is published!
The stripy tights are back! This first chapter from Jojo Moyes' third Lou Clark novel begins as Lou arrives in the US, gabbling away nervously to the man behind the immigration desk. Her personality and humour shines through on these first few pages and it certainly has me eager for more. I can't wait to see what Lou's American adventure has in store for her...
This was worth it, if only to check up on the kind of books my partner is currently obsessed with. Sure, I'd seen the film of book one, but it needed to be seen if I could enjoy a full novel along the same lines. We start almost where the first book ends, with our heroine having lost a lovely man and still finding her way - here though it's through New York customs and into a similar job, even though that means leaving a new boyf back in London, which is a departure that isn't explained. Having read this author's short stories, I think those would be more to my taste, in variety and brevity, than this series - but I don't have any doubt that my partner will be most keen to get her hands on this. Three and a half stars from me, so far.
I have been waiting impatiently for the continuation of Lou’s story in the third ‘Me before You ‘ book, having loved the first two. Right from the start I was reminded of her outspoken and slightly scatty personality (who chats to US immigration officers???) and I can’t wait to get to know all the new characters. Jojo Moyes peppers tantalising details of Lou’s new bosses into this first chapter along with a daunting first meeting with the housekeeper - trouble to come or a hard shell with a soft centre?
These people, along with Lou’s wide eyed first look at Manhattan life are a great start. I’m definitely IN!
NetGalley granted me access to the first chapter, and it definitely doesn’t disappoint.
We pick up Lou in the airport about to start her new life in New York. Her over-zealous sharing with the official had me chuckling, and there was a perfect blend of humour and intrigue about just what is going to happen to her. An exciting start...
Oh my how I’ve missed Lou !! This first chapter and a glimpse at what’s to come is just what I needed !
I can not wait to find out what happens next and meet the new clients properly and more of Nathan too
If your heart was broken with first book, mended with the second but you still craved more like I did, then this book can’t come quick enough !!!
I was so excited to be able to read this sampler first chapter of Still Me. I loved Me Before You - who didn't? - and also After You so was really looking forward to reading this. And I was certainly not disappointed.
In just one chapter, Jojo Moyes already has me completely hooked. Meeting Louisa at the airport was like meeting an old friend again, as she babbled nonsense at the immigration officer. I did wonder if she was going to make it out of the airport or if this book was actually going to be about her heading home rather quickly! I do hope she follows the advice of the immigration officer though and is careful what new things she says yes to - though I suspect she won't..
Jojo Moyes' writing is once again warm, funny and emotional. The couple of new characters already introduced - Ashok the porter and enigmatic housekeeper Ilaria - sound like they are going to be great additions to the book.. With hints about Lou's new employer Mrs Gopnik being 'a handful', it sounds like she is also going to be a real character and I'm looking forward to seeing what she brings to the story.
Lou's excitement at being in New York was completely infectious and I can't wait to follow her on her New York adventure - I know I'm going to love it.
Awwwww she’s back! I absolutely adore Lou she is someone you would want to be friends with in real life and now she’s off on a new adventure but with will still on her mind as she moves forward. I am so looking forward to reading the rest of this novel as the sample was superb(but not enough to feed me lol) I really am excited to see how it turns out for her she’s a unique one I hope the new employers fall in love with her as I first did in me before you x
First Chapter Only:
Oh dear. I thought I might be emotionally up to this but within a few paragraphs Jo Jo Moyes had transported me back to life with Lou and I could feel the memories causing tears to prick at the back of my eyes even before Lou had cleared custome=s and immigration.
There is, of course, great humour, especially as Lou can't help but say the wrong thing at the wrong moment. I love the fact she's still recognisably Louisa.
There's a real sense of place too. The Croy-down incident reminded me so clearly of my own experiences when I worked in New York when I was asked if I knew Vivien from Liverpool, so that I felt I had been transported across the Atlantic again.
I absolutely cannot wait to read the rest of Still Me.
I absolutely loved Me Before You and After You so I was delighted to read the first chapter of Still Me. Reading about Louisa is like meeting an old friend. I was hooked from the first sentence and can't wait to read the rest of the book. It was lovely to find out that she is in New York starting a new job and still the same adorable character. Thank you Jojo Moyes for bringing Louisa back to us.
With thanks to Netgalley, I have just sampled the first chapter, and I am very excited for publication date.
Will has never left me. I did get closure after reading "After You", but he has always been just there... in my heart somewhere.
In "Still Me" when Lou recalled her memory of Will at the airport, it didn't just bring a tear to her eye, it brought one to mine too. Jojo Moyes really has brought Lou back in this book, full of fun and liveliness and ready to take on her new challenge in New York.
Really looking forward to book #3 #stillme #firstchapterreview #netgalley
The first chapter hooks me into the story and reacquaints me with Lou. We find her starting her journey by flying to New York, to care for a woman. Lou wants to challenge herself. Start to do things out of her comfort zone, exactly what Will wanted her to do. Evocative descriptions of New York. Looking forward to reading the rest of the book. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to review the first chapter.
Oh how I have missed this character. I adore Me Before You, I'm not ashamed to admit that I cried bucket loads. And then After You just left me wanting me. Having only read the first chapter of Still Me, it feels like I've been reunited with an old friend. The dialogue just as warm and witty as I remember, pleased to see Nathan back in the mix ( great supporting character) and I am now desperate to find out just what will happen next, will a complete happily ever after occur? All I can say is, the first chapter is very promising!
20/10! Even though I have only read the first chapter, I have a gut instinct that this is going to be another amazing book filled with love, adventure and laughter. After falling in love with the story and the characters in 'Me Before You', and 'After You' I couldn't wait to get my hands on this. Yet again Jojo Moyes has not left me disappointed, and once again I have fallen in with Lou's narrative! After this short excerpt, I'm already buzzing with questions and don't think I can wait till the 25th!
Loved it, loved it, loved it! I cannot wait until 25 January, didn't realise just how much I had missed Lou Clarke.
An exciting first chapter, full of wonderful description. I felt like I was exploring New York along with Louisa on her first morning. Her enthusiasm for her new life in New York is infectious and I can't wait to read more of this story to see what that new life has in store for her. I haven't read any of the previous books involving this character but the author does a great job of explaining Louisa's past in such a fun and quirky way, that I'm sure that won't be a disadvantage. Her sense of humour appeals to me and I am excited for the full book.
Even after one single chapter, I know this will be another epic book scribed by Jojo Moyes.
Louisa Clarke has just arrived in New York, where she'll be working for another family. She knows this something Will had told her to do. She'll never forget Will but a new chapter is about to begin in her life.
I absolutely loved the first chapter! I can't wait to read the rest and see how Lou gets on in New York. She's such a loveable character and I'm sure this book will be just as good (if not better) than the previous 2.
I enjoyed this first chapter, but it is possible that I may be the only person reviewing this who has not read any novels by JoJo Moyes, so I am probably in a minority in being able to say whether it works well without previous familiarity with the characters. Judging by this sample,, I don't think so - though perhaps my opinion would change with further reading. However, I would advise readers new to this author to start with the first in the series 'Me Before You'.
