I thought this was cute. Maybe I would have enjoyed this more if I had read the others in the series. The characters just didn't draw me in.
I thought this was cute. Maybe I would have enjoyed this more if I had read the others in the series. It took me a while to get through because I kept putting it down. The characters didn't draw me in. I was so looking forward to reading this, but had trouble liking Lucille. I apologize for not being able to give a better review. This just wasn't for me.
This is the first read of this author's cozy mysteries. I enjoyed the dialogue and humor along with the who-done-it. Who knew trying to lose weight to lead to this? The list of suspects seem too much for the police so it falls on our heroine to find the killer. If you enjoy a funny read and interesting plot, pick up this book.
This is the first book that I have read in this series, I liked it well enough but feel like I should start from the beginning.
Lucille Mazzarella wants to lose weight in time for her best friend Flo's wedding. She joins the Weigh to Lose program but is turned off by the nasty leader. Then Lucille finds her dead with her throat slashed and a tasty-looking cannoli stuffed in her mouth. Since the police have not found the killer, Lucille decides to do her own snooping. The suspects include the victim's husband, their young Swedish au pair, and a gambler deep in debt to the wrong people. Lucille takes a part-time job as a receptionist at the real estate office where the victim worked to get more insight into her life. Lucille thinks she has identified the killer until he becomes the next one killed. This was an ok mystery but not particularly memorable.
I received an eARC via Netgalley and Beyond the Page publishing with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and provided this review.
Princess Fuzzypants here:
We cats know that we are much brighter than humans. It is a fact. Some are fairly bright and some, well not so much. Lucille falls into the latter category. While not being the sharpest knife in the drawer, she is kind hearted and well meaning. The problem is she keeps finding dead bodies. Lucille is also intensely curious so she cannot help wanting to investigate.
Her detective skills are about equal to her dieting skills but somehow, in spite of it all, she does manage to figure out who killed whom.
This case is pretty confusing when the leader of a diet group is killed with a melon scoop. There is no shortage of candidates for who might have killed her. But one by one, shortly after Lucille decides they are the likeliest villain they die or have an alibi. When the pieces finally come together, Lucille and her friend Flo have to fight for their lives.
The fact is Lucille is rather endearing like the old style slapstick comics. She is funny and even as I rolled my eyes, I could not suppress a grin at her antics. This is never going to be a serious mystery or even a serious cozy but it is good for some chuckles.
I give the book four purrs and two paws up.
Great cozy mystery. Really cute and funny. I really enjoyed the mystery and the humour.
This is the 5th book in the series but the first that I have read. It can be read as a stand-alone but probably would be better for the reader to read the series in order. It has fun, humor and a murder investigation. What more can you ask for in a well written cozy mystery.

Cannoli to Die For by Peg Cochran is book five in the Lucille Mystery series. Lucille decides to lose weight before her best friend Flo's wedding. She joins Weigh to Lose but after one meeting the leader of the program is found murdered. When the police have no suspects, Lucille and Flo decide to solve the crime themselves. This book like the others in the series is not necessarily serious, but it is fun. I read it in less than a day and found myself laughing out loud at times. A great mystery when you need something light but entertaining.
Lucille and her friend Flo found themselves smack dab in a murder mystery that occurred in the sanctuary of their church. The police were at a loss as to who done it, but Lucille wasn’t fazed, with a little ingenuity and a curious mind they found themselves following the clues right into peril. A mild, nice and entertaining cozy mystery, with a bit of humor, and a bite of intrigue.
This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
A very well done story this series, with a strong, fun character in Amy who makes me want to pick up the rest of the books. Definitely a good time story that is enjoyable.
A Murder For The Books is an exciting start to a new series.
I love reading books that have a brighter vibrant cover and the description definitely piqued my interest.
Amy is a librarian, living in a small town and living with her aunt.
Amy returned home after a disastrous relationship and she just wants to live a quiet life.
Even though her aunt is determined to find a love interest for Amy, she is a great character and her love for Amy is apparent throughout the story.
Working alongside her friend Sunny, Amy thrives as a librarian. When a patron inquiries about a mysterious death years ago, Amy has no idea that the simple question will set in motion murder, secrets, lies and deception.
This is a really great start to this new series. The story is well written and the words flowing smoothly without any confusion as to each individual character.
I'm looking forward to reading more in this exciting series.
I voluntarily read an ARC of this book provided by the publisher and NetGalley.
