This was a brilliant read. As soon as I started reading this book I just knew I was going to love it. Highly recommended
This was a gripping and tense psychological thriller with an emotional plotline. I loved the writing style and was kept on the edge of my seat. Another brilliant book from the author. I will be reading more in the future.
Excellent book with a brilliant storyline and great main characters. I would recommend this book.
The story of a disappearing mother and how it affects her husband and daughter.. Plenty of twists.
I didn't seem to be quite as enamoured of this one as I expected to be - which is not to say it's not a good read - it is - but it is more in the way of family drama than anything else and I found it hard to connect to this particular family.
The plot is intriguing enough - Billie disappears whilst on a hiking trip - but is she dead or has she deserted her husband and daughter? Secrets begin to emerge as said daughter Olive starts to have strange (and not, to be honest, terribly interesting) "visions" of her mother alive somewhere.
That rather useless plot device aside, for which the eventual explanation is not entirely believable, this is somewhat of a page turner in places - especially as you begin to realise Billy has not told the entire truth about her life before marriage. Equally though it also drags along in other places with a lot of random angst and not so useful filler.
I think the main problem for me was I didn't really relate to Billie - she came across throughout (to me anyway) as somebody who called themselves a free spirit and wore it like some kind of medal of honour. Olive was a bit wishy washy although did develop during the course of the narrative into a much more well rounded and interesting person. Perhaps a coming of age analogy.
Overall I found Watch Me Disappear to be a fun, fast read, the ultimate resolution was as expected but told really well - and overall I'd recommend it for fans of family saga with a hint of mystery that falls into the cusp between YA and Adult audience.
