This is a good book for dipping into for a bit of inspiration and encouragement. It is not instructional but provides guidance of a spiritual kind. It is well structured and well thought out. Some of the prompts and writing ideas were really good too. It is a good one to pick up if you are feeling a bit stuck on your own writing journey. Thank You
I enjoyed reading this book. I am always looking for good books to encourage one to write.
Actual rating 3.5/5 stars.
I found the concept of this book to be such an intriguing one as it combined the two areas - meditation and writing - I am trying to improve in my life and which I focus on each day. This showed how writing, and creativity in general, can be improved by a dedicated self-care regime that supports and allows time for a mental time-out. This serene and spiritual approach to life has the benefit of clearing mental blockages and ruts, allowing the individual an unrestrained approach to creativity.
I appreciated the abundance of examples and activities this book provided, which made it both an illuminating read and an instructive guide. I did, however, find that much of what I read was a repetition of the knowledge imparted in other meditative guides, and provided little that was specific for writers. I do still believe that you cannot get enough of such spiritual positivity and it never hurts to impart more understanding of this topic into your life, so found this still to be a worthy read.
This is an interesting book on mindfulness and writing. Anyone who does any writing has, at some stage, has experienced writers block and/or procrastination in writing. Sitting down at a desk, pen poised in hand, and nothing comes to mind. This book is full of ways to use mindfulness to overcome writers block and develop passion, emotion and character to books and make characters more real. Probably best for someone who already meditates or practices mindfulness.
A serene read, merging both of the elements of being in the moment and writing through close observation.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book.
Interesting enough but as I keep on reading "Mindfulness &.." I have to admit that in the end it seems all the same story to me, just put in different context.
Abbastanza interessante, se non fosse che ogni volta che leggo "Mindfulness e..." mi sembra di leggere sempre la stessa storia, solo in contesti differenti.
THANKS TO NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!
I would like to thank NetGalley, Quarto Publishing Group - Leaping Hare Press and Joy Kenward for the opportunity to read this book in return for my honest review.
The book approaches writing from a spiritual and mindful approach so would not be appropriate as a guide to writing a novel for a beginner. However, I found it intriguing and engaging and as somebody who is writing a first novel I enjoyed the approach and it left me feeling more serene.
The book is structured well and follows a logical journey and the chapter about mindfulness and imagination was especially useful for me.
