Omg this book was soooo good. I couldn't put it down. Such an easy and fast read. Definitely a five star read. It starts off with Jessica losing her young daughter and having to face the consequences of her past actions that led up to her daughter dying. Fast forward many many years later. Jessica has rebuilt her life and is now haunted by the past. Someone is trying to make her relive what happened sooo many years ago. I couldn't believe who it was trying to hurt her. I would've never guessed it in a million years. It was such a shocking twist at the end. All the revelations that came to light at the end were fantastic. This book had everything. Great characters, content and a shocking ending. What more do you want from a book???

Seventeen years ago something terrible happened to Jess’s daughter, and for all those years Jess has carried the guilt of what happened that day to her daughter Beth. Time has now moved on, and Jess has remarried and has another child. Things begin to happen though that are connected to what happened to Beth. Who is determined to make Jess pay for what happened?

I have read another Lucy Dawson book, so was really excited to read this one as I loved ‘Everything You Told Me’. This book certainly did not disappoint! The book is told from two different times – present day and seventeen years before. The beginning of the book, seventeen years ago, is heart-breaking and makes you want to grab hold of your child and never let them go. There was no way of understanding how Jess and Ben were feeling and it was wonderfully written. I felt so sorry for Jess as she blamed herself and continued to, even though it was obviously a tragic accident. As the story moves on in time, it appears that whilst Jess has not forgotten or forgiven herself, she has moved on with her life and has a new husband and a young son.

It becomes deliciously creepy when strange things start to happen at Jess’s home, and it was definitely enough to give me the chills. Even though I had worked out quite early who I thought it was, the writing was clever enough for me to doubt and question myself so many times! There were a lot of characters that I didn’t like for one reason or another but mainly because nobody seemed to believe Jess when they should have. The story kept me on the edge of my seat, and to be honest awake most of the night reading it. It was full of suspense and had me biting my nails down to my knuckles!! A very cleverly written and well thought out book and it was that good I had it finished in just under a day!

This was a fantastic book, which I would highly recommend if you love a good thriller! You will certainly not be disappointed with this one!

I would like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Daughter’ by Lucy Dawson in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Seventeen years ago Jess is married to Ben and has a five-year-old daughter Beth, but Beth has an accident in her school playground and the events from that day affect Jess for the next seventeen years. Someone is carrying out a malicious campaign meant to traumatise Jess but who? - and why?
‘The Daughter’ is a scary psychological novel with an exceptionally well-written plot. The tension keeps increasing with each twist and turn and becomes increasingly chilling until the end which was completely unexpected and left me open-mouthed. Once started I couldn’t put it down and read it straight through in a day. This novel is compulsive reading and I can highly recommend it.

My first book by this Author. I read it in 24 hours, could not put it down. The sadness in the beginning gives way to shock at the events that happen over the next eighteen years. I could not have foreseen the ending in a million years. Thank you NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.
