I loooooved this book!!
This book is about Emma Gladstone who find herself desperate that she ends up knocking on the Duke's door to pay for a wedding dress she made. Emma has been a working for a dressmaker for the past few years but when her client refuses to pay for her work she's at risk at losing everything she's worked so hard for.
Meanwhile Ash returns from the war full of inner demons and outwardly scarred but now he realises he needs an heir. When Emma turns up on his door they make a deal to wed but their wedding will not be a traditional one. They will not kiss and as soon as he has an heir Emma can leave. Both tormented by their own pasts and hoping that this will be a simple transaction it turns out to be anything but. Even though this was slow paced the angst was high and I couldn't love it more!
This was a dreamy romance to get myself lost and wrapped up in - the kind that makes you really glad you decided to spend your time with the story and characters. From beginning to end I adored the characters included in this novel and I can’t wait to find myself devouring other books by this talented author.
A difficult book in that it was hard to connect with the main characters. One star unfortunately. Romance in abundance but sadly not a gripping read.
Nice bit of historical romance and an easy read. The premise is simple; attractive, but poor girl meets mysterious, wealthy gentleman. Lots of passion and an unsurprisingly ending.
I must apologise for not being able to review this book after you so kindly accepted my request. I have had an unfortunately challenging time, but am now free to resume reading and reviewing. I hope that you will not hold my difficulties against me in future requests
Standard Middle of the road romance. Not bad, not great. Girl meets Duke- coz lets face it we all want that don't we.? lol
Cliched fun, diverting and suitably cringeworthy.
No real complaints, does what it promises to...
Just don't expect Jane Austin
I loved this book, it seemed like a Historical Beauty and the Beast retelling and it didn't disappoint. I even got my Nan to read it and she's now looking out for more books by Tessa Dare.
Hands up if you need a historical romance with a marriage of convenience? Or a damaged hero trying to rebuild his life? Or a heroine who's had to make her own way in the world after being let down by her family? This first book in Tessa Dare's new series is a all three of them - as a war-scarred Duke proposes marriage to a vicar's daughter turned seamstress. He needs an heir, she needs security for her future. He sees it as a purely business arrangement, but she has other ideas - and soon they're bantering and sparring as both of them realise that there's more going on that they bargained for.
I raced through this once it got to the top of the to-read pile and really enjoyed it. I've read a couple of Tessa Dare's books before and I think this is my favourite so far. I was lucky enough to hear her speak at an event recently - and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next in the series too.
A delicious romance of it's genre. Not one to be taken seriously. The plot could have been based in any century as it is so unlikely but... it was easy to read and enjoyable. Perfect for holidays.
The Duke of Ashbury needs a wife and in walks the perfect candidate in a wedding dress.
Emma Gladstone, a poor seamstress, has little choice but to approach the duke for the money owed to her for the wedding dress now not needed by his ex-finance. She is beyond surprised when he offers her a marriage of convenience instead. The reclusive Duke has been severely scarred during an accident at Waterloo, despite it he knows his duty is to have an heir to look after the people on his estates or leave everything to a wastrel cousin. Emma seems to be the first woman to not be afraid of his visage. That fact along with her gentile upbringing and her desperate situation makes her perfect to be the new duchess
An enthralling tale of two unlikely characters embarking on a marriage of convenience for very different reasons. The growing relationship between Emma and Ash is full of funny banter and sexual attraction. Tessa Dare humorously portrays Emma’s struggle with giving up her life as seamstress through scenes such as her viewing the curtains as perfect material for a duchess’ dress. She also artfully incorporates the struggle of Emma’s hard years of living in poverty as well as Ash’s battle to re-enter society after a disfiguring wound. The narrative switches easily between viewpoints.
Absolutely loved this book, so much so I couldn’t put it down and read it in one night. Will definitely be buying the next instalment The Governess Game.
Hilarious, romantic and incredibly witty. A must read for historical & non historical readers alike.
Totally entertaining, I loved all the characters, their predicaments and the resolution!
This was a lovely sizzling read. Will look out for more books from the same author.
Emma Gladstone, a vicar's daughter, turned seamstress. Courageous, opinionated and sassy.
Duke of Ashbury, emotionally and physically scarred. Strong willed, and stubborn.
Emma bursts into the Duke of Ashburys life wearing his ex-fiancees wedding dress, demanding payment. There is chemistry, humour, and lots of emotion packed into this book.
Read on to find out how well rules are made to be broken in this amazing book by Tessa Dare.
This book was received free from NetGalley via Mills and Boon Insiders, but that does not influence my opinions.
Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I enjoyed this book but would not rate it as did not have enough substance for me.
I received with thanks an ARC copy of The Duchess Deal (Girl Meets Duke #1) from Mills & Boon & Netgalley.
This is my true and honest review of The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare. This was published in August 2017
This was a sweet, bold, daring, loveable romance. I absolutely adored the romance between the two main lead characters Emma and Ashbury. The author has a way of making you fall in love with all the characters and you unable to put her book down. I have her Castles Ever After series so will have to the start them all soon.
Give it a go if you love good historical romance.
I havent read a historical romance in, in fact its been that long i'm not even sure i have. So when this one dropped in my inbox i knew it was going to tick all the boxes for me. I was right, it did. It was FANTASTIC.
The Duchess Deal follows The Duke Of Ashbury (Ash) who arrives back from war, loses his soon to be wife as she cannot deal with his injuries and somehow still has to deal with been a Duke. So when Emma comes barging through his door demanding her pay for the dress she made his ex-fiancee he sees a chance. A chance to continue his line to the throne. A deal - A marriage of convience.
Emma is a wonderful woman, she is strong, independant and has her own rules. I warmed to her straight away, she counteracted every part of the deal the Duke requested, yes it was to be a marriage of convience but she still wanted a life and a chance to know the man she would marry. As the pair grow closer though, the rules change - alot. Ash tries very hard to right up, but Emma will stop at nothing to help those around her be it Ash or her friends, she is loyal through and through.
The Duchess Deal is a wonderful read and it wasnt just a case of boy meets girl, well girl meets Duke - it was much more, it had me swooning (when Ash wasnt been an ass) he could make anyone weak at the knees. It had me laughing as Emma stood up to the man she was falling in love with. It was heartwarming and perfect whilst we have been having those snowy evenings.
Enjoyable easy read, nice message behind the story about there being more to people than their looks.
This is a Regency romance. Lord Ashbury (Ash) first meets Emma Gladstone when she bursts into his study wearing his ex-fiancé's wedding dress, looking like she had been in an explosion at a draper's shop. He has been a recluse since returning from the battlefield and is horribly scarred inside and out. He is in need of a heir and wife and asks Emma to marry him. She eventually agrees but they certainly have different ideas about what the marriage will entail - his means no kissing, no touching, her's requires teasing and talking. Emma continually chips at the protective shell Ash has constructed around himself until the real man emerges.
This is the first Tessa Dare book I have read and I really enjoyed it. The characters really come to life and bounce off each other. There are lots of humorous moments between the characters and Breeches, Emma's cat adds to that. Both Ash and Emma have demons to conquer - she was thrown out by her father and forced to go to London to find work whilst Ash has to realise that his scars don't define him. Both main characters also care- she tries to help a client who is young, scared and pregnant whilst Ash, as the Monster of Mayfair, patrols the streets at night, saving and scaring passers by. This is the first in her series Girl meets Duke and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
This was a real pleasure to read, it's witty and romantic, I loved it from the very first page
I received a copy from Netgalley and I voluntarily leave my honest opinion
