An entertaining enough, if not revolutionary, addition to a crowded genre. Savvy readers may figure out the twists, but the books the moves along quickly enough to still be a satisfying read.
Great story! Looking forward to reading more by this author! Highly recommend!
Thanks a million Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this book. Brilliant!! Fast paced, gut gripping and full of twists and turns. I was gripped from the start. I would highly recommend it.
WoW, WoW and WoW what a book. This brilliant book by Frances Vick is a story that revolves around three people Jenny, Freddie and David.
Jenny comes across all sweet and innocent. She has just lost her mother in a freak accident. Jenny had an abusive childhood and she now lives for her blogs. These blogs contain made up stories about her and her life, which she has a lot of followers. Jenny Loves attention from others especially from David and Freddie and thrives from it.
Jenny loves being in control. However, she can be manipulative and is very good at it towards the end of the book. (You will not see this at the beginning of the book as Jennie seems all sweet and innocent!)
David went to school with Jenny and has cared and looked after her in his own way without Jenny realising. Jenny is very special to David and he is there at the right time to show support and cares for her a lot. David has become obsessed with Jenny.
David comes over very smart and very calm. He has OCD and has told lies about why he had to leave senior school etc. His lies become bigger and better throughout the book. You sometimes ask yourself "Who is he really?" He sounds like a prince in shinning armour or does he?!
Freddie, is Jenny's best friend. He is very sweet, very open and so likeable - he's a girls dream fella. He supports her in all circumstances. The have a fantastic bond between each other. Freddie becomes concerned and feels something isn't right about David. Freddie sets out to find more about David. Its shocking what Freddie finds out about him. How does he tell Jenny as a relationship has started between her and David? Does this become the fate of Freddie when he digs deeper. I liked Freddie and he played a brilliant role in the brilliant book.
But who is real and who is fake ? Who is lying ? Who is controlling the twists?? Whats going to happen next? What a twist! What a ending!
Was the book really over 400 pages? WoW WoW..........Big 5 fat Stars for this book.
Can't you tell I loved it.
Amazing book which kept me guessing the whole way through. Fantastic character development and the use of different mediums to continue the story kept the reader interested.
Wicked read. Can see this one become a firm favourite in 2018. Its truly wicked and mysterious and messed up all in one go. Loved the writers style. The plot is amazing and keeps you on the edge of your seat, makes you just not want put it down.great read
What a brilliant book. I did not see the twist in it coming. A real page turner, I couldn’t put it down. Highly recommended.
Thanks to Netgalley and Frances Vick for the copy of this book. I agreed to give my unbiased opinion voluntarily.
This is the story about a woman whose mother dies and who ends up in a strange, controlling relationship. I found it confusing and frustrating and just couldn't care about the characters, although, Freddie was someone I did feel interested in, but, overall this wasn't for me.
I appreciate the opportunity to preview and thanks to net galley and the publishers.
Unusually I've sat on this review for a week since I finished the book so that I could have a think about what I really think of it. Also - its a pretty tough review to write without giving away any of the complexities of the plot.
Jenny hasn't had an easy life. Sal, her single mother, was good at picking the wrong kind of man. After years of living in a dodgy part of town and a love/hate relationship with the police they managed to escape from sleazy, violent Marc.
Freddie is Jenny's best friend and always trying to help and support her. Encouraging her in her studies to become a therapist and keeping a close eye on the online blog that she writes to help keep herself sane. He would do anything for her.
David fell in love with Jenny the day that she walked into his classroom all those years ago. Beautiful and clever she is his perfect girl. He would do anything for her.
When Sal is discovered dead in the snow Jenny's life is turned upside down. Dealing with the police and coping with the grief all prove to make her life very difficult.
Liars is a complex book. Told from the point of view of each of the main characters you are never entirely sure who is telling the truth and which of them is the Liar. With a plot that twists and turns constantly you'll be on the edge of your seat and desperate to get to the end to discover the truth. It's the perfect escape from those dark winter days. Curl up on a comfy sofa and see if you can catch the liar...

This feels like someone read a psychology textbook about the steps to an abusive relationship and then wrote a book. Almost a step by step account on how to do it: Step 1) Choose target with history of abuse. Check. Step 2) Ensure they have experienced a recent loss. Check. Step 3) Flatter, infiltrate gently undermine. Step 4)Isolate from friends. Step 5) Constant surveillance under the guise of protectiveness.
To be honest I'm 47% of the way through and I'm so bored. I know exactly what's coming, I know the "twist" at the end already and to be honest I care very little for the characters. Jenny has self-esteem issues but seems very willing to stand up for herself against her "best friend" who is always by her side and patiently helps her but obviously doesn't understand her new relationship.
Freddie has portents of doom but waits until he is drunk before confronting her.
The unused room and Mrs Haversham type mother are so formulaic as to be trope.
It is unlikely that I will finish it.

Thirty minutes into the book and I gave up.
The plot was slow.
The monologue draining.
The character development lacking
Snooze.

At about 25% and this book is boring me to death. I just can't get into this one at all.
Really enjoyed this book at the start and loved the story line but once it got half way through and more people started being involved it made me lose interest.
WOW what a read!
The first quarter of the book was boring and I almost gave up. I'm glad I didn't because the story took off running and I eagerly turned page after page. LIES, so many lies. Twisting, turning, time and time again. This really does show you that you can never really know someone....never REALLY know someone and what they are capable of doing.
A brilliant psychological thriller indeed.
Obsession, obsession, stalking, deceit, obsession, murder and obsession!!!
This book is brilliant, in a word!
Sharp intense and scary, very scary
I have read many books that are billed as psychological thrillers and that deal with stalkers and obsession but this ( ready for a cliche) takes the biscuit, it takes the whole packet.......
The characters are wonderfully brought to life by the sheer magic of the authors writing and the descriptive prose is addictively superb
The story had me shaking my head in horror at the depths of obsession David ( the main character ) went to to win his prize and Jenny ( the prize ) well..........she, herself had me shouting ‘Noooooooooo’ more than a few times
Its hard to put into words JUST how good this book is but it is,fantastic in all areas and a real eye opener to how some peoples obsession ‘love’ and hate will go
You have to read it ( out Jan 26th)
10/10 5 stars
Absolutely amazing! This author NEVER disappoints! Just when you think you have it all figured out, she shocks you with another twist. This was an absolutely brilliant, stand out thriller. It is only the beginning of January but I can confidently say that this will be one of my top thrillers of 2018! I don't think I will read another thriller this year that will be quite as mind-bending, tense and satisfying as this one. Absolutely stunning and very highly recommended.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the Publishers, Bookouture, for this review copy given in exchange for an honest review. Also thank you to Noelle from Bookouture for organising the blog tour and finding me a space on it!
The story begins with a lady being found dead in the snow outside her home. Sal had mental health problems, suffered with depression and was an alcoholic. She was looked after by her daughter, Jenny. While Jenny was out at the shops, Sal went outside, fell and hit her head and died lying in the snow. The story continues with her daughter, Jenny’s story. Jenny has the support from her best friend, Freddie, who has been there for her for many years while she has struggled with her mum. Jenny has written an online blog for a while, writing out her feelings throughout the last few years. She feels responsible for what happened with her mum, and shares this with her online community where there is a mainly sympathetic responsible, but also with some quite hurtful comments about what a bad daughter she was. She was also horrified to be questioned by the police with regards to her mum’s death. During her mum’s funeral she meets an old acquaintance from school, David. As luck has it, David was Jenny’s alibi as he had seen her walking through the village towards the shops on the night her mum died, just like she said she had. This led to Jenny and David becoming good friends, and her other friend Freddie was slowly pushed out. David was really supportive to Jenny, bought her expensive presents and treated her to meals out. He also told her who she couldn’t see, where she could work, who she could live with and what to wear. In fact, it became obvious that David knew a lot more about Jenny than what she realised and had been waiting for this opportunity for many years.
This is the second book by this author that I’ve read. I did enjoy the first book, Bad Little Girl, but I did feel it was slow in parts. To be honest, I felt the same about this book for the first half of the book! The story started off well, but it initially didn’t grip me as much as I thought it would. I struggled to see where the story was going and started to lose interest. But then, half way through the book the whole dynamics of the book changed. It went from being a bit of a slow burner to a fast faced creepy thriller with more twists and turns that I struggled to keep up with!
I’m not going to go into the story after the point where I feel it all changed for fear of spoilers, because believe me, if you get wind of any spoilers it will ruin the whole book! The last half of the book though was a real uncomfortable read, but in a good page turning way! It also switched from present day to past to explain the story better. The emotions are ramped up high as you start to understand what is actually happening. By the end of the book I was genuinely left speechless.
Whilst the beginning of the book started slowly, it built up the tension for the rest of the book. This is one seriously creepy, chilling and disturbing book, but don’t let that put you off! It is definitely one that you should read!!
A book that deserves the genre psychological thriller. A really dark tale which is full of twists and turns. Each chapter sends you spinning you in another direction. Some very awful people with both physical and mental abuse doled out in scoops. So cleverly written I devoured this over the weekend.
This was an excellent psychological thriller. I liked the way it was written. I loved that the confusion of everything had me reading more and more to figure out exactly what was going on. I had no idea who was crazy, who wasn't, or who was craziest.
