I really enjoyed this book. When Emily meets and falls in love with Adam she couldn't be happier. That is, until she meets his mum, Pammie. Right from the start, Pammie seems to have taken a real dislike to Emily, but Adam won't hear a word said against his mother. She seems intent on alienating Emily and is determined to stop them from getting married. I don't want to spoil the story, but there are a couple of good twists at the end. I recommend this book. Thanks to NetGalley for a preview copy.
Copied to Goodreads.
This book makes. Very uncomfortable reading for any woman who has a mother in law.
I was cringing inside me as I read it. It was brilliant read even though had to put the book down as it was hard to read. A very clever story about a daughter in law, her fiancée and the mother in law who was not what you thought. Thanks for letting me read this very special book.
I throughly enjoyed this book so much I had finished it within 24hrs. An excellent example of a psychological thriller with a twist I did not see coming. After reading this book I cannot wait for the authors next book.
I'd like to thank netgalley for my copy of this book after I requested it I was thrilled to receive a copy. Oh my word, I have just finished this book and I am blown away and speechless!! I started this book late afternoon yesterday and I have been hooked since the first page, when I'd reluctantly have to put it down I'd still be thinking about the characters and what will happen next, I absolutely love these types of thrillers to do with the dynamics of relationships and the lengths people will go to over a loved one and some warped perceptions of love. I read liar by K.L slater last year and I've been on the hunt since then for a similar read and this certainly didn't disappoint!... the story is told by Emily who meets Adam on a words confrence, she falls head over heels and meets Adams mother pammie who seems nice at first but soon starts to play nasty mind games with Emily, at times I was frustrated with Adam not sticking up for Emily and there was times the twist was so great I'd be reading with my hands over my eyes. I am sad I've finished this book, the twist at the end was simply breath taking and not what I was expecting at all. I thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic thriller, if any other avid readers know of any similar reads to this one I'd love to know.
As this is a debut novel I cannot wait for the next one by this author. I read this in one sitting, as I couldn’t put it down. It was a fantastic addictive read and the ending was not at all obvious. I just didn’t see it coming.
When Emily meets Adam at a conference things develop quickly between them and they are soon planning their future, which includes getting married. Pammie, Adam’s mother has other ideas and pulls out all the stops to ensure this does not happen.
I’m sure most of us can relate to family tensions but some of Pammie’s behaviour is clearly meant to dissuade her future daughter-in-law from wanting to belong to the family. Coupled with that is the odd behaviour of Adam’s brother in the run up to the wedding.
The characters are carefully developed and, although at times I felt I knew what was happening, I didn’t.
Stongly recommended. Thanks to NetGalley, Pan Macmillan and Sandie Jones for the ARC in return for my honest review.
Good enjoyable read. I enjoyed the different relationship dynamics that played out through the book and how these changed. I did guess the ending but that did not detract from the overall enjoyment of the book.
When I started reading “The Other Woman” it read as a chick-lit/romance, I wondered why there was a psychological thriller tag. Needless to say all becomes clear, and this is a book that would suit those who enjoy both genres.
It’s very easy reading, quite intense after half way and one that you are compelled to read to the end and not put down.
Enjoyable and one that you just won’t see the ending and twist coming!
This will, without a doubt, be a hit this summer
Utterly brilliant book. Really had me hooked right from the start, a real page turner with an ending that I certainly didn't see coming. Great main characters who were very believable. An excellent debut novel- can't wait for the next one from Sandie Jones. Highly recommend
Totally loved this book! A seemingly obsessed and possessive mother goes to extreme lengths to prevent her son from having a serious relationship. Loved the characters, fabulous plot and very well written.
Up to two thirds of this book I was rating it as no more than a 3 stars, mainly because I thought that this story was predictable and done many times before. Starting off a bit of chic lit and typical new romance moving on to the problems encountered with a mummy's boy in competing with his mother. I was urging Emily just to leave him and couldn't understand why Adam couldn't see what was going on. BUT this was quite a clever twist which I certainly didn't see coming and a fabulous ending. I just wonder whether this part of the story was left too late and might have deterred some readers. Nevertheless this increased my rating and enjoyment of the book
Emily meets Adam and they quickly fall in love. When she meets Adams mum Pammie she finds out that Adam is a mummy’s boy and will let nothing come between Mother and Son. And then the battle begins between them to win Adam.
This was a brilliant plot, with good characters in it. I read this quickly and really wanted to find out the truth but nothing was as it seemed to be. The ending had me stunned!!
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for allowing me the privilege of reading this for my honest review.
Wow! I loved this book. A really addictive story, with lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing and wanting to know more. A complete page turner, I found it very hard to put down.
I have read many books that keep you guessing and I'm usually good at working it all out, but the ending of this really surprised me!
The Other Woman is an amazing debut by Sandie Jones, I'll definitely read more by this author.
Thank you.
Wow , that ending !! .I had to reread the end twice just to make sure what happened really happened . Half way through the book I felt like visiting my Mother in Law and just hugging her ....but that would mean putting the book down. If you want a nice relaxing read this ones not for you but if you want to be held on the edge of your seat I HIGHLY recommend this !!
This was a tremendous book! Oh how we wanted the main character to get her fiancé to see sense and deal with his interfering mother.. So does he? How can she continue in such a frustrating relationship if he continues to take his mothers side? The ending of this book is just brilliant. I loved this book. You will too.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
24 hour chiller thriller must read unputdownable ending so unexpected couldn't have guessed it love love love it
An absolute classic, and everything that the excerpt promises. The haunting of a seemingly healthy relationship turns progressively more sour from the interference of Adam's mother, Pammy. It threatens to destroy the love between Emily and Adam. Is it enough of a issue for Emily to drive her away from Adam, or does it end up making their bond even stronger? Whose mother ever approves of their children's partner anyway. What happens when Pammy drives the wedge even deeper, causing Emily to challenge her relationship, with potentially disastrous consequences, but in the end, this psychological thriller takes a macabre turn that no one could have predicted. No one except Pammy, that is.
The Other Woman
I can’t believe this is a debut! Fantastic addictive reading. Emily meets the man she wants to marry, Adam. Unfortunately for Emily, Adam brings with him a monster-in-law in the form of Pammie. The tricks Pammie gets up to kept me totally gripped throughout this book, she will stop at nothing to put a stop to Emily getting her claws into her son. This is a real page turner with a brilliant twisty ending.
Great book! Easy fast paced read with just enough likability to the main character to keep me reading, and ended up really invested in the outcome. No spoilers here but for a gripping book to while away the commute I'd definitely recommend
I will start by saying that I read this book within 24 hours - yes it really is that compelling and addictive! The story follows Emily who falls in love with her perfect man Adam and the only real fly in the ointment is Adam's mother Pammie - and what a fly in the ointment she is! A completely horrific and amazing character, Pammie does not want to lose her darling boy to Emily and sets about making sure that does not happen.
All the characters are so well written and I really felt quite strongly that I wanted to give Emily a good talking to in order that she "see the light" when it came to her mother-in-law and indeed Adam, but of course that would have ruined what is an amazing and intriguing story with a mind blowing ending. I will certainly be looking out for more from this author. A well-deserved 5 stars and thanks to the author, the publishers and Netgalley UK for the advance review copy of this brilliant book.
