Oh how I could relate to this book! I loved the fact that the Author is trying to juggle a new job, 2 children and a Husband while trying to keep everyone happy. Although light-hearted it also had some serious situations such as the treatment of Mums at work, which I think was spot on as I have observed this in one of my roles.
A well written read , entertaining and laugh out loud funny in parts.

I absolutely love the author's Peter and Jane blog and read Why Mummy Drinks practically in one sitting, so I was very excited to find Why Mummy Swears on Netgalley. As a Mum myself I could relate to much of what occurs with the moppets and giggled a lot. The diary style it is written in is great as a busy Mum as you can dip in and out of it and not lose the plot , as it were. I really hope there's a third book, as this series brightens my day.

This is the follow-up to Why Mummy Drinks and continues the story of Ellen, her family and her dog and her attempts to keep her head above the waters of all of life’s demands. And boy, are there a lot of demands!

Like many women before her Ellen needs to go back to work – although her husband has a good job she feels the need to both have money she has earned to spend as she jolly well pleases* and to be something more than ‘just a Mummy’ – and this is where the trouble starts. The agency puts her forward for her dream job – which she gets despite an ‘eventful’ interview – but the job is full-time, add to this the fact that daughter Jane is rapidly approaching her teens (but not close enough to get the Instagram account she craves), Daddy is being particularly awkward and Ellen, somehow, manages to find herself in charge of the PTA. We may be living in the 2010s but it still seems to be women who are having to struggle with trying to do it all (be it all, have it all or just all…).

This book is, as I hoped, hilarious and incredibly sweary. At a basic level this is perfect, light reading but coming to it straight after the Matt Haig I also got more than a hint of the sheer panic parents – and particularly Mums – feel day in and day out. So, my personal ‘note to self’ is to be more sympathetic to the parents out there – it is a job which has to be done, and done with love, but I don’t think I could do it…

*obviously she uses rather stronger language than this….

Loved this book, a real laugh out loud read. I read it on holidays in one sitting and loved it. Perfect holiday reading material. Highly recommended.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Gill Sims for the copy of this book. I agreed to give my unbiased opinion voluntarily.

Full of satirical humour, this hilarious account of being a mum in the 21st-century is guaranteed to make you laugh and empathise with Mummy Ellen as she recounts her experiences with demanding but lovable kids, a less than appreciative husband and parents who present nearly as many problems as her children.

Its nearly twenty years since my kids were this age but I still remember the picky eaters and the constant sibling squabbling, so this story is timeless. The writing style is easy to read and chatty, but beneath the fun and despair, Ellen feels on a daily basis there are relevant examples of how women are perceived within the family and by society at large.

Whether you are in the midst of bringing up a young family or are experiencing it the second time around like me as a granny, this book will lighten your day and let you know it doesn't only happen to you.

A pertinent, fun read, that you'll find hard to put down.

I received a copy of this book from Harper Collins - non-fiction via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I had been looking forward to this for a while but I think the build up created a bit of a let down. I felt like The diary entries were more of a rambling of thoughts rather stories of events. I haven't read the author's first book but now I'm not sure I'm in a great rush. The content itself was amusing and realistic and I certainly could relate. There were most definitely some comical moments which were more so because you could relate so well.
I would still recommend anyone to read, particularly parents, not sure anyone without kids would find it of any interest but it is a bit like being given someone's diary to read, you're still intrigued and interested but just not excited about it.

Very funny! Very true to life! Just the book for curling up on a wet day. This will make you laugh, and cry, and reach for,the wine in sympathy.
I loved it, and will be reading her other books.

Thanks to netgalley for the ARC of this delightfully funny book. Being a mom myself, I could identify with so many of the scenarios painted in the book, and I fully understand the need to swear sometimes.....
Very well written, quirky and entertaining all in one.

Why Mummy Swears was an easy holiday read that followed a year in the life of the main character. The depiction of Ellen’s return to full time work will resonate with many and the humour throughout the book made it a fun read.

Absolutely bloody marvellous. Every mother to be should be given a copy of this book!! It’ll give them some laughs about how they won’t end up feeling like this, but also the realisation that they are not alone when the finally do! Priceless!!! Can’t wait for the next instalment!!

As a man I am probably not the target market for this publication however can I just say this is one of the funniest things I have read for many a year and delighted that NetGalley and the publishers gave me the opportunity to read an ARC and give an unbaised review.

I personally follow a number of 'MUMMY' blogs on social media and I thouroghly love the tales that are told. Some of the posts on line are priceless, I also love how these types of blogs get parents realising that not everything has to be perfect, you are not a failure when you stay in your pj's for 3 days, when you don't want to face the world. These blogs show the reality of family life.

This book is by a blogger of social media page is ‘Peter and Jane’
A page I love following.

This is what I actually put for the first book, Why Mummy Drinks.
It's hilarious in parts. It is just so much 'real life, the ups and downs of parenting and being a grown up. Trying to get it right when you know it's all wrong. Trying to smash parenting in a pretentious middle class way, and failing miserably. Trying to be a very good responsible adult is more difficult that people realise.

And I have to say for Why mummy Swears my thoughts are pretty much the same..

Kick back, lock the kids under the stairs and get yourself stuck into this book. It's a great read.

Whilst the book was very funny in parts I did find it rather slow to start with. Plus I felt that the swearing was rather overdone - ok so I guess you could say the clue was in the title but I don't think the level of swearing really added that much to the story. But I did appreciate the chance to read the book

Laugh out loud funny. Language a little over the top..but it is called why mummy swears so I did expect it.
Light hearted, easy read story of a mom who is trying to cope with everyday life her husband and her 2 kids.
If you need a laugh this is the book to do it

Completely offensive and utterly hilarious from the first page. I've never laughed enjoyed a book this much in years, and all in all a very real description of real family life.

Another year in the life of Ellen and her family as she copes with Jane's last year before big school . Volunteering for the PTA has been added to the mix.

Another great read. Not sure if I enjoyed this one as much as the first one but it was still a good read. Some brilliant moments that many parents can relate to. I loved her helping with the birth of a baby and trying to head the PTA. The ending was perfect and there could easily be more of these books. Would love to see how they cope with high school.

A great funny read for any parent.

I giggled, giggled, and giggled some more. So many episodes rang true - if exaggerated - and I could guess that they were based on actual events, not just for her, but for us as well.

I too tried to feed my first child organic, home cooked mush - and he rejected it in favour of jars. I even tried to hide my own food in the jars but he spotted the difference.. my lovingly cooked food - many hours spent following recipes - didn't fool him one bit. Jars from factories were preferred.

And the cost of school holidays racked up a significant amount with pony camps, adventuring in Wales, and so on for us too.

I am left wondering what could have been in her app 'Why Mummy Drinks' that made her so much money - I suspect a lot of people would really like one to exist! (reality check - it doesn't exist, I know, I looked for it!)
