An easy read.

Very predictable from the start but a good enough storyline to read until the inevitable happened.

Looking for a relatively quick, steamily hot, contemporary romance - look no further, grab yourself a copy of this, the first in a new series from the highly talented Katee Robert!

At college, Lucy Baudin chose Jeff - the wrong man - to have a relationship with, she really should have looked no further than her friend Gideon Novak! Now she's asking him to be a matchmaker and to teach her how to not be boring in her sexual relationships. Jeff did a really great job of undermining her confidence and self-esteem and Gideon feels responsible for not protecting her from Jeff's cheating ways sooner. Gideon feels like he owes her, so agrees to help. That's just got to be the recipe for a brilliant friends to more romance with plenty of overt hot action packed encounters, some humour and, of course, love and misunderstandings to keep things interesting!

Katee Roberts is a skilled author, bringing her characters, scenarios and plot to life in the imagination of the reader. The story is only 159 pages long, but still manages to pack so much between the pages (or should that be sheets?). It is relatively light hearted, touches on the impact of an emotionally abusive relationship and shows how love can help heal the wounds such trauma causes. If you enjoy explicit contemporary romances, this has to be a great story for you to escape into!

I requested and received a copy of this novel, via NetGalley. This is my honest review after choosing to read it.

I loved Lucy & Gideon. Lucy's ex has really done a number on her confidence in all things relationship related. She is confident in her work life, but not her private life. Lucy wants a promotion, but she realises that she has to settle down in order to progress. Enter Gideon, a head hunter and a friend of her's and her ex's. From the moment Gideon met Lucy he has wanted her. Unfortunately his friend got there first. Gideon knew his friend was a cheater. He has always felt guilty for not telling Lucy sooner. Now Lucy has arranged a meeting with him. She needs to get married and needs Gideon to find her a suitable groom. She doesn't want a love match. She also wants Gideon to teach her to be a better lover. The last thing Gideon wants to do is help her find a husband. Not when he wants her himself. He reluctantly agrees to help because he feels guilty for not telling her sooner about her jerk ex. These two are made for each other, Gideon is able to coax Lucy out of her shell. Help her realise she enjoys sex. The closer they get Gideon realises he cant stand back and watch her with someone else. Can he get Lucy to realise he is the man for her? I suggest you pick up a copy to find out. Highly recommended for fans of a friends to lovers trope. With lots of erotic scenes

It's been a while since I read a book by Katee Robert and I have to admit I'd forgotten how much I enjoy her stories. I'm a sucker for a friends to lover romance though so I could't resist requesting Make Me Want and I'm so glad I did, I'm definitely going to have to start catching up on the rest of the author's backlist now!

This is part of Harlequin's new, and extra spicy, Dare range and I wasn't disappointed, it had the perfect amount of romance and smut and because the relationship was built on friendship it never felt rushed. Lucy's cheating ex left her with very low self-esteem, she's been single for two years and has decided that it's time to get back out there to try to find a husband but she feels like she needs a confidence boost before she gets started. She thinks Gideon could be the perfect solution, he's not looking for a long term relationship but she knows he respects women and has plenty of success finding willing partners so thinks he'll be the perfect man to give her a few pointers in the bedroom. Little does she know that Gideon has been secretly crushing on her for years and once he gets a taste he'll do whatever it takes to make their arrangement permanent.

I loved Lucy, she was treated badly in the past and it understandably knocked her confidence but she's a woman who knows what she wants and one she gets over her embarrassment she's not afraid to ask for it. She gives as good as she gets both in and out of the bedroom and I really respected her for that. Gideon is great too, he's always had a thing for Lucy and nobody else has ever come close but he never acted on that because she was dating one of his friends. The chemistry between them was scorching hot and they're both quite adventurous so we get treated to plenty of dirty talk, a very hot video call and sex in public places. There was a little drama at the end that I really could have done without but it wasn't enough to stop me thoroughly enjoying this story and I'm definitely looking forward to continuing this series.

Lucy asks old friend Gideon for help. He is usually a headhunter, but she is asking him to help find her a husband. Gideon accepts the job, but it makes him realise that he wants the role himself.
A lighthearted quick read.

I had high hopes for this book.
Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as I thought I would.

It’s been two years since Lucy seen Gideon (name swoon) when she blows back into his life with an offer he can’t -and doesn’t want to- refuse.

Gideon, I liked. He was confident, sexy and honest. He knows what he wants and he’s not afraid to go after it. I loved his conscience and absolute honesty.

Lucy, not so much. I didn’t care for her character at all from start to finish. At times, she bored me. She was meant to be so strong but really her character came off, to me anyway, weak. Like she just couldn’t make a proper decision and would just constantly go back and forth. I want you, I don’t want you. I get her ex knocked her confidence and she was still getting over it. I really do. But she would have these little epiphany type moments, then two minutes later it was like she completely forgot about it. Then shortly after, little epiphany moment again.

Anyway, I only kept reading because Gideon kept me mildly entertained. I quite liked Roman. And I do love Becka. Feisty and funny in her moment to shine.

This won’t put me off reading this author again or the series. I’ll definitely give it another shot. (Especially if Becka gets her own story).

I received a copy of this ebook from the author and publisher via NetGalley but this has not influenced my review or opinion.

Extremely hot and steamy, this is a modern take on the marriage of convenience trope, with a side helping of secret crush, friends to lovers, inexperienced lover and matchmaker who falls for his client. That all makes it sound quite complicated and cluttered, but really it's not until the final denouement which feels a little rushed and not quite as well worked through as you'd want. My first book by this author and I enjoyed it enough that I'd look out for more by her.

This was a good, fast moving storyline that was very entertaining.

The main characters were equally good and the detail in the story was excellent.

It kept me engaged throughout and I really enjoyed it - another great book by Katee Robert - 4 stars from me for this one!

Make Me Want (Make Me, #1) by Katee Robert was such an enjoyable read.
It tells the story of Lucy Baudin and Gideon Novak (love the name, Gideon BTW).
When Lucy needs a husband to progress in her job at her law firm she calls in a favour from former friend Gideon.
Gideon once the best friend of Lucy's former fiancee and also the individual that had broken the news of Lucy's fiancee's infidelities is wallowing in guilt.
Not only did it take him a month to come clean to Lucy about her cheating fiancee and break her heart in the progress he has also been madly in love with Lucy for years.
So when she calls in a favour how can he say no.
Gideon is a very successful headhunter by profession but he can honestly say that this is the first time he has been asked to procure a husband for a client, not that this would stop him from completing this unusual task, he would do anything in his power to make Lucy happy.
On top of this said ex-fiancee has done a massive number on Lucy making her doubt her whole appeal and worth as a woman in all the ways that actually matter and as a result of this Lucy asks Gideon to be her coach in all things sensual.
Gideon agrees on one condition he gets Lucy exclusively for the duration of these lessons.
But It's not long before all the rules are being thrown out the window as the two former friends begin to connect in ways that Gideon has been dreaming of for years.
So "Make Me Want" was a fantastic read, it has such flow and ease about it that I had no trouble getting lost here.
I loved both the main characters and was rooting For Lucy to see Gideon as the only contender for her love and affections.
And Gideon himself I just wanted him to spill the beans and reveal all in regard to his heart's desire.
They were both such easy characters to like and feel a connection with.
Which I'm happy to say I did, feeling so invested in the outcome of there overall relationship practically from the beginning here.
It also helped massively that Gideon's and Lucy's chemistry was extremely explosive setting the pages alight with its intensity.
It was also so refreshing to simply read a book where the characters laid themselves bare, exposing their vulnerabilities without apology.
There were few secondary characters here but what did appear were great and added an additional flavour to the overall story.
So I found "Make Me Want" to be a fabulous new contemporary that in my opinion delivered on all fronts.
I found it a fresh sexy addition to its genre and am happy to recommend this enjoyable tale.
I was provided with an ARC of "Make Me Want" By Netgalley of which I have reviewed voluntary.
All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

This book is perfect for those who are wondering if the new Mills and Boon 'Dare' series is for them. The story revolves around two friends professional lawyer Lucy and a once close friend of her ex-fiancé, Gideon, a top head hunter.

Lucy is determined to recover from the lack of sexual confidence that occurred after her ex-fiancé cheated on her, especially as an upcoming job opportunity favours candidates with a stable personal background. Lucy dramatically hires Gideon to find a husband for her as an answer to her problem. Gideon has fancied Lucy for years, but respected her engagement with his best friend. When the two agree to help Lucy recover her sexual confidence with some 'one-to-one' action, the ground rules quickly get thrown to one side as Gideon tries to woo Lucy in an attempt to become her husband and Lucy gives into the underlying lust that she has always felt for Gideon.

Very hot and sexy moments keep the story moving along nicely, whilst the attraction and romance between the two adds interest. I also enjoyed the sense of fun that ran throughout the book. Well worth buying.

A flirty and sexy read
4 stars

This is the second book I’ve read in Mills & Boon’s new Dare line and it’s exactly what I was hoping and expecting from books that are billed as sexy, passionate and bold.

Make Me Want is the story of Lucy - a kick ass New York lawyer who needs a husband to convince her bosses that she’s partner material. And while she rocks her professional life, a douche of an ex has left her feeling a little bit unsure about her skills in the romance department.

That’s where Gideon comes in. A former friend of her crappy ex, Gideon is a head-hunter - perfect for finding her a husband. And equally perfect for teaching her how to bring out the sex kitten in her and teach her a few new things. Ah but the best laid plans…

Lucy was the perfect heroine. She was feisty and smart in her chosen career but had been hurt by her ex and had lingering issues due to his treatment of her. At times I was frustrated with Lucy because of the way she let Jeff’s treatment affect her even 5 years later. Having said that, it was very honest and exactly the way that any normal person would think and act. Yes, it was frustrating but also quite refreshing at the same time.

And of course I loved Gideon. You just have to. He thinks he’s in control and can help Lucy with her ‘problems’ without losing the heart that he probably lost to her years before. Silly man. He was slightly arrogant, big, brash and in control - except when it came to Lucy. As I said - loved him.

The pair had banter and sparked off each other. I loved their interactions both sexually and otherwise. Speaking of sex, it was fun, exciting and didn’t eclipse the plot of the book - which is ultimately the love story of Lucy and Gideon.

I loved the writing style of the book, too. It kept the pages turning, making this a quick read.

The only reason I didn’t give this book the full five stars is because I was a little bit baffled by the conflict at the end. Gideon left Lucy because he thought it was for the best - but I couldn’t figure out why he thought that. And then he did a quick 180˚ and I was a bit confused by that, too! It wasn’t a problem, it was resolved perfectly in the end I was just a tiny bit confused. Oh and epilogues - pretty please give me an epilogue!

One more think - I honestly wouldn’t let the line about Fifty Shades Freed either tempt you to read this book or put you off reading this book. There are two people and they have sex - other than that, I honestly don’t see a comparison.

As I said, this was exactly the kind of book, story and characters that I was hoping for when I heard Mills & Boon were bringing out a new line. I loved the previous M&B Blaze line and this is the kind of book that reminds me of that line but amps up the sex just a touch. It’s fresh, fun, flirty and dirty - and I honestly cared about the characters and wanted to see them happy. The writing is excellent and the sex, while enjoyable, is not there instead of a storyline. All in all, if you’re looking for a sexy romance - I would recommend this one to you. I’ve already got other Katee Robert books on my wishlist and if she writes another Dare, I’ll be sure to snap that one up, too.

Really not what I expected from the book description. Lucy and Gideon’s graphic sexual exploits seem to be the main driving force of this story. Quite a change from the Mills and Boon I remember. Lucy’s desire to find a husband in order to further her career is implausible in this day and age. However I do appreciate that when you open the pages of this book you enter a fictional world.

'Make Me Want' is a friend to lover story with plenty of sizzle.
Lucy and Gideon are both successful career driven individuals. Gideon doesn't do relationships, and Lucy doesn't date since her sleazy ex-lover betrayed her. They have been friends for years, but when Lucy dumped her ex, she lost his friends including Gideon too. Gideon feels he owes her and so agrees to her first proposal, even though he thinks it's crazy, but when she tells him, she needs a  love teacher he should refuse, but can't.
As her lessons progress, Lucy realises she wants Gideon as more than a friend but he shies away from commitment and she doesn't want to risk the friendship they have just rekindled.  Gideon has always wanted Lucy, and now he has her, can he hold onto her forever?
Dominated by sensual, hot love scenes, Lucy and Gideon's emotional angst and engagement increases, as their physical relationship burns out of control. Plot twists are limited in a story that predominantly focuses on Lucy and Gideon's  internal conflict. They need to decide what they want from each other and whether they can risk their hearts.  Well written love scenes and a fast-paced plot make this a book that's addictive and easy to read in one sitting. The perfect afternoon delight.
I received a copy of this book from Mills & Boon via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Wow I was not expecting this from mills and boon! Loved this story and was actually left wanting more from these two characters!

A quick easy and quite exciting read!

The third in Mills and Boon’s new steamier line, Dare, Make Me Want was a quick, fun read. Lucy is a successful lawyer in New York City but underneath her competent, straight talking shell, her self confidence is still struggling. Her now ex fiancé’s comments have wheedled their way into her brain and she’s finding it hard to forget, and even harder to date. But if she’s to make partner in the firm she needs to find a husband, and show she’s a steady, stable choice for the board.
Lucy turns to the last man she thought she would – Gideon Novak. Gideon had been the one to finally tell Lucy that her fiancé was cheating on her, and still holds some guilt that he didn’t tell her earlier. But he’s the best headhunter in the city. If he can’t find Lucy a suitable candidate to fill the position of husband, then no one can. But Lucy also has another request for Gideon – she wants him to teach her the bedroom skills that she feels she lacks…
I enjoyed this book and read it in an afternoon. Gideon and Lucy were characters that you really cared about and want that happy ending for. My only minus point is that I didn’t feel quite as connected to the emotions around the sex scenes as I have done in other books. If that side had been built just a little more, it would have been the full five stars. Of course, as with anything in the artistic world, it's purely subjective and I would still be happy to try another book by this author.

4*

Make me Want by Katee Robert a four-star read that will not leave you wanting. This is the first book in the Make Me series, and my first read by this author and I can’t wait for more. My only problem was could have read so many more pages. This was a sweet and steamy read that will suck you in, there is a great plot to the story and you will be swept up on the journey. This story can be a little difficult to grasp in these times a hundred years after suffragettes won the right vote, women still face a glass ceiling at work, younger woman may not understand the struggle faced by woman in positions of some power and being held back due to gender, not experience. This great story added to some great steam and souse and you have a great story that will take you through a great read.

“The position I need filled is a husband.”

Lawyer Lucy Baudin has a favour to ask Gideon Novak - find a suitable candidate for her potential husband...and some lessons on how to be a better lover.
Having been hurt by her ex-fiancee (and good friend of Gideon’s), Lucy is naturally wary of making a commitment, and apparently Gideon’s ‘tuition’ will be beneficial for the lucky candidate. Whilst Lucy believes this can be a no strings attached arrangement, Gideon has been somewhat in love with Lucy for years, and, naturally, their sleeping together makes him realise that the idea of Lucy ending up with any other man is somewhat unpalatable to him. As far as Lucy is concerned though, she might be attracted to Gideon (and the sex may be amazing for her), but he is a man who doesn’t do commitment, so there is no future.
Katee Robert has created two well written lead characters who have a history, a believable mutual attraction to each other, and undeniable chemistry. Their coming together is in no way forced, and Gideon and Lucy make an excellent couple who spark off each other, and, underneath the bravado, genuinely care for each other to the point where, when the lines become blurred, they both worry for their friendship.
As this is the Dare series, the sex scenes are rather explicit, and it turns out that Lucy knows what she wants without any tuition from Gideon in that department. Indeed the sparks fly between the two regularly as Gideon struggles to stay on track with Lucy’s request to find her a husband; his 'pick me' speech (where he can't quite bring himself to say I love you) is actually a poignant moment, and it makes the reader realise just how deep his feelings for Lucy actually go. Essentially, you realise that Gideon is somewhat vulnerable when it comes to his relationship with Lucy, and, luckily the author has created an idea partner for him in Lucy, who has loved and been hurt, but needs to realise that the man of her dreams is closer than she thinks.
The strong writing makes the story enjoyable, and you genuinely want Gideon to come to his senses and realise he’s being a martyr to the cause by letting Lucy walk away because he thinks that is what she wants. For a story largely centred on two people, the secondary characters also shine in their brief appearances - Lucy’s sister, Becka, is wonderfully feisty and probably needs her own book, such is the impression she leaves on the reader after she confronts Gideon about his intentions. The scene is a brilliant piece of writing in itself.
Easy going, strongly crafted and likeable, I really enjoyed the story. This is the first of book by Katee Robert I have read, and, based on this, I look forward to reading more in the future.
Thanks to M&B for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
