*Lying To You* by Amanda Reynolds starts off at a slower pace than expected, especially for readers used to fast-paced, hard-hitting crime thrillers. However, the initial setup is necessary to establish the groundwork for the unfolding mystery. Once the action picks up, the book becomes thoroughly engaging, with well-rounded characters and an intriguing plot that draws you in.
Reynolds does an excellent job of building suspense and keeping readers on edge, especially as the mystery deepens. The sense of unease grows as you begin to understand the complex dynamics between the characters. The ending is both unexpected and satisfying, providing a resolution that ties everything together in a way that feels earned.
While the book might not start with the immediate intensity some might hope for, the slow buildup pays off in the end. The condition explored in the story is both fascinating and unimaginable, leaving readers wondering if it's a real phenomenon. Overall, *Lying To You* is a highly compelling read that I found hard to put down once I got into it.
A book full of lies and secrets, twists and turns with a psychological thriller backdrop.
Could not put it down, another gem by this great Author.
Such an exciting read, I really enjoyed the twists and turns in this darkly emotional thriller. Secrets and lies will always find their way out!
Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!

An excellent psychological thriller that had me engrossed from the very first page. it’s a book full of twists and turns and I loved it.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.
After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.
I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.
Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.
A tense, psychological thriller that will keep you asking questions. Told in alternating chapters Lying to You is a really good story from Amanda Reynolds.
This one was pretty good. I would have appreciated more character backstory and development but the drama and lies through this book was compelling.
A story full of lies - everyone is lying about something or to someone. Jess returns to the town she grew up in - she appears to have made a success of her new life in London. Mark Winters in coming to terms with being out of prison - his wife is coming to terms with the man she thought she knew. What really happened that night and what lengths will people go to to protect those they love. A thriller worthy of reading - twists all the way through. Highly recommended.
I received a digital ARC of #LyingToYou from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I was so excited to be able to read this book - the blurb sounded great and I really hoped it would live up to my high expectations. I am pleased to say it didn't disappoint. There were some spelling mistakes throughout but I assume they will have been corrected before publication.
This book uses dual narrative from both Jess and Karen. This is interesting and definitely helps the reader gain a more detailed insight into what happened from the two different perspectives. There are also moments from the past that are presented in the form of the book Mark is writing (so we are given an insight into his perspective of what happened) and also the transcripts from Jess' sessions with her supervisor.
I was shocked when Karen's affair is revealed! A nice little twist to complicate things further and add to the drama. The story takes place in just over a weeks time frame, with flashbacks to the past in the form of Mark's book.
I was immediately pulled in to this book and didn't want to put it down. I read it it a day. I couldn't wait to discover what really happened on the night of the prom. I needed to know who was lying and who was telling the truth.
This was the first book I've read by this author but I will definitely look out for more by her!
Lies ..secrets...this book is full of them.
Jess certainly has had her fill of them hence why she only came home after 10 years to sort out her mother’s funeral but with her comes the reasons why she left in the first place.
I liked how the story was told in past and present and in other characters POV.
It would have great to have more of a back story of Jess homelife and why she was the way she was...
All in all it was a great book.
"Lying To You" is my second book by this particular author and out of the two, this was hands down my favourite.
This was a jam-packed read and though relatively slow building in nature, it still managed to tantalise my taste buds with its constant teasers and tidbits it so expertly dangled in front of my eyes.
Slowly drip feeding until a much more lucid picture is formed turning everything you think you know completely on its head.
The story follows Jess Tidy as she returns home after her mother's recent death.
Back to the small hometown, she grew up in and also fled ten years previous.
Back where the events of the past have a way of catching up with the present and though ten years have gone by peoples memories and prejudices are still running rife through this small community.
So the story ping-pongs between Jess and the wife of Mark Winters.
The wife who has nothing but contempt and hatred for the girl who in her opinion toppled her perfect life like a set of dominoes.
It was just so interesting to see this story unfold from two different angles giving such a unique perspective and with no idea who the real victims are here besides the obvious: I was kept on my toes throughout second guessing everything till that final reveal.
This was brilliantly done with just the correct amount of information to whet my appetite whilst still withholding the rest of the picture.
I also really liked the finale: a job well done.
I whizzed through this so fast and have no issues recommending this enjoyable piece of well-written fiction.
Thank you to the Publisher, Author and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of "Lying To You" of which I have reviewed voluntary.
All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
I read this book in every spare minute I could. I didn’t know what was the truth and what was lie and just couldn’t guess. I was gripped from start to finish and can thoroughly recommend it. I shall look for more books by this author.
A good story, but overall left me with a sense of terrible sadness, not a great rollicking thriller as I expected.
I found this book a bit ‘meh’ and felt it just kind of plodded along - the only real ‘thrill’ coming towards the end and even that was a bit predictive and somewhat far-fetched.
Jess Tidy is living in London but a phone call from her brother sees her having to go back to her home town which she fled ten years ago after she accused her Teacher of assault and he was imprisoned. The teacher, Mark, has since been released from Prison and still lives in the village with his wife, Karen.
The story is mainly told over the course of ten days from when Jess learns about her mother’s death to the funeral. The story is told in present day from Jess and Karen’s point of view, transcripts of meets between Jess and her supervisor and extracts from the book Mark Winters is writing, which Karen is secretly reading. I know it sounds confusing but it’s pretty easy to keep track of the different time frames.
I know a lot of other readers enjoyed the book but although I continued reading to the end I was a bit underwhelmed by it.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced read copy of the book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
Told through three points of views - Jess, Karen and Mark - Lying to You is a slow burn about a vulnerable girl abused by her teacher, a man who protests his innocence and a wife who stands by her husband. Interspersed with snippets of Jess' counselling sessions and Mark's retelling of the events through his novel, you won't want to stop reading until you know the truth. Did he do it? Was she lying?
Packed with a powerful and shocking ending, Lying to You is a thriller you won't want to miss.
A really interesting and engaging book. Told through the eyes of two very different women who are linked through an allegation and crime committed years before, this is a bleak and atmospheric read. It had me questioning what I was reading, what I thought had happened, and the version of events being built throughout the book.
Amanda Reynolds tells the story incredibly well. The damaged women at it's centre were believable and very real. I felt like I was actually there when Jess returns to the village where she grew up. I could envisage the people, the place and the grey December weather.
Thank you for letting me read this book #NetGalley. I will be recommending it. I really enjoyed it and I am looking forward to Amanda Reynolds next book.
Jess has spent 10 years running from her past, but what really happened at her prom? Who is telling the truth? And what is the truth anyway?
This story has lots of twists and turns and I certainly didn't expect the events at the conclusion.
The story cleverly unfolds from several points of view and kept me gripped up to the end.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for gifting me a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Jess has a call from her estranged brother Will, who she hasn’t spoken to in 2 years,to say their Mother has passed away and that she is needed back home. Why is she reluctant to review.
This book has a different perspective per chapter, we have the story of Jess going home for her mother’s funeral, the interviews with Jess’s counselling supervisor who is hoping that Jess will make a great counsellor and the story of Karen Will’s wife.
When Jess was at school she accused her teacher and mentor Will of a terrible crime that he went to prison for, years later now that he has been released, he has to face Jess which causes him and his wife many troubles!!
I loved the slow reveal of secrets. This book is a twisty, compelling psychological thriller that will keep you guessing the whole way through.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for a review.
