The ultimate ghosting novel!
Powerful. Moving. Heart-breaking. Compassionate. Gripping. .
Sarah is English, living in LA but separated from the husband with whom she is in business. Back in her home village, she meets Eddie and they connect. Over the week of their affair, they fall deeply in love. When Eddie fails to call Sarah as promised, she is gripped by that awful behaviour we have either experienced or heard about.. Consumed with sending more and more messages to him, while checking the phone, checking messages, just looking for any contact at all. Her heart is broken.
Sarah’s friends try and convince her to forget Eddie but she cannot let go. She goes back to her business in LA with her ex husband but cannot concentrate on work, even when she eventually returns home..
There are several twists and turns throughout the plot that keep you hooked and reading along & I was certain I had the ending all figured out but I was so wrong.
Perfect for fans of Jojo Moyes or Liane Moriarty.
There is so much to love about this book. and I really wouldn't be surprised if this becomes a huge bestseller.
Make sure you have the tissues ready for the ending!
This is hands down my book of 2018, I absolutely loved it from start to finish.
The book tells the story of Sarah who meets the love of her life,Eddie, spends a magical week with him and then he mysteriously vanishes.
It also centres on the death of a young girl who you believe to be her sister Hannah - plot twist, it isn’t!! It’s the death of the young girl that prevents Eddie from calling Sarah, but in time he realises how deep his feelings are and he sets out to find her. But lo and behold another major plot twist and they all live happily ever after.
I could not put this book down - I LOVED it, it’s the romance we all wish we’d had.
Thank you so much for sharing this book with me xx
Wow, this was such a great read. I loved all the characters as they were so beautifully described by the author that they felt like they were real people.
It was an interesting premise for a novel. Whilst on holiday in Gloucestershire visiting her family, Sarah meets Eddie and falls head over heels in love with him in the space of 7 days. They spend the whole week together and then Eddie leaves for a planned holiday, promising to call Sarah but he never does and she is heartbroken. She imagines all sorts of things, that he’s had an accident, that his phone has died but the truth when it is eventually revealed proves to be completely devastating.
Both Eddie and Sarah have loss and sadness in their backgrounds and these elements are revealed as the plot progresses. The beginning of the book is told by Sarah in the first person but we do hear from Eddie too later on in the novel.
Sarah’s friends try and convince her to forget Eddie but she cannot let go. She runs a non profit charity in LA with her ex husband but cannot concentrate on work, even when she eventually returns home..
There are several twists along the way and I was certain I had the plot all figured out several times but I was so wrong.
The storyline was so moving that I even had a tear in my eye as I reached the climax of the book and I read a lot so this was pretty unusual for me.
I will be looking out for more books by this author, I believe she has published under a different name and I will be recommending this one to all my friends.; It would be perfect for fans of Jojo Moyes or Liane Moriarty.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my arc in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you for letting me read the book. Good read, with intriguing characters and twists and turns
I started this thinking it was going to be a bit of a fluffy, light read. I was actually surprised I requested as this is not my genre. However, this was a much deeper, darker story than the cover would suggest. A love story, a mystery and some truly sad back stories. It slowly entices you into the story of Eddie and Sarah and the very unique way they met. The story tackles some disturbing subjects really well. I could not figure out at all why Eddie cut Sarah off so abruptly and doubt anyone will guess why until reading the whole story. A really cleverly written, moving story with a great twist.
This started off really well but then veered off in a direction I wasn't expecting. It had the plot of a decent psychological thriller but to be honest it was too much of a romance/thriller crossover for me.
I loved this book and couldn't put it down, so I ended up reading it all in one day!
The characters were all really interesting and you ended up so drawn in to the story and trying to work out why he didn't call.
This is a wondeful read, a beautiful story of love, a love that arrives unbidden that feels so right...until fate throws a curve ball. Rosie has created lovely characters, they’re real, with all of life’s imperfections, they’re amusing, they’re frustrating, they’re sad, they’re happy, they are without doubt what makes this book so enjoyable. Many thanks to Rosie Walsh and of course NetGalley too.
Addicting and tense all the way through. Definitely did have to suspend disbelief for the first half of the book re: Sarah not being absolutely crazy, and the narrative did seem to become rather manipulative towards the reader at certain parts, but enjoyable and thrilling nonetheless.
This book is one SURPRISE after another. I could have read it straight through, if I didn't have a real job. It was highly entertaining and I really couldn't wait to read what happened next. It wasn't just a surprise ending, but the characters took turns I never saw coming in the middle and more. Excellent read!!
I did really enjoy this book but it took a while to get going. It was quite frustrating to read but I would have acted in the same way she did. Even though it was quite cringe worthy. I thought it was awful that he just ignored her but it made sense when you found out why. The stories were interwoven really well and I enjoyed reading it (once the reason was revealed)
Wow, 100% tornado of a book , abundant amount of twists and turns. I was kept guessing the whole way through !. This book pulls on the heart strings and has you thinking what would you do if you found yourself in that position. A story based on a deep love between Sarah and Eddie and meeting of what I can only describe as a soul mate ( cheesy as that sounds). This love comes with complications lets say. I will say no more as I hate would hate to ruin it.
Sarah is in her late thirties when she falls deeply in love and has a few perfect days with Eddie. They both know it is something special but then he doesn't get in touch as he promised. She has been 'ghosted' yet she is sure their connection was genuine. What can have happened? Can she take heed of her friends' advice to move on? Of course not! Sarah and Eddie involve us in their story of love, secrets, grief and dilemmas and have us rooting for a happy ending. Thanks to net galley for this copy.
Rosie Walsh has written novels before under the pen name of Lucy Robinson (I've read and LOVED all of these) but The Man Who Didn't Call takes her writing in a different direction and one that I am so very pleased about!
Walsh writes the most gorgeous prose with flowing descriptions and has the ability to make you feel like her characters are sitting next to you as you read. The heady and sensual descriptions of a blinding hot week of falling in love are so beautiful and then her ability to flip the tone completely and leave us cold and sad as we learn about The Man Who Doesn't Call is incredible.
This is one of the best novels I've read so far this year and will take a lot to beat. It has the most intricate plot and, with such beautiful writing, it would be hard to not fall head over heels in love with this book.
This is not the book I thought it would be from the tagline and the cover. I imagined many answers as to why he didn't call, but I didn't guess it right.. at all.
This is fairly light hearted with a tragedy thrown in for good measure. I read the book in 2 sittings, over 2 evenings and I was excited to see how things played out.
Worth a read.
This book is a gripping story from the off. There are twists and turns that you really could not have predicted. I thought i had worked something out about the direction the story was going in, only to be totally thwarted and proved wrong. Its a compelling story. I highly recommend this book
First time I have read one of this authors books and I was not disappointed.
Well. I have two opinions about this book. Firstly, I think you had a week long perfect romance so let it go at that, I really struggled with the almost obsessive “where is he, why doesn’t he call, I love him, he loves me, it was so perfect” element of the book. I felt myself getting impatient - but that’s not a bad thing, it meant I was immersed in the book! And this is a story with twists and turns which you may not see coming. It has compassion at its heart and it’s well worth reading. Try it!
The title of this book, lends you to believe that Sarah has fallen for Eddie after only a week long romance and he just doesn’t return her calls. A one week wonder......
Only, what unravels is so much more than just not hearing from him. His reason becomes unimaginable and hearts are broken. Unconditional love for family over rides. As pasts unfold you will find yourself reading faster and faster to find out why he doesn’t ring or text.
This book is different from any story I’ve read. Different in a good way.... captivating and heart breaking.
I read in just over 24 hours. Couldn’t put it down.
A brilliant book with charming beautiful characters. Full of twists and turns that keeps you interested up to the very end.
