Steampunk meets fantasy in this story. Ember is a half fae, half human who doesn't fit in with either world. But her father was the Fairy King but after his passing she is exiled by the wicked Step-mother to the human realm without her magic. A bit cliche sounding but it actually works for this. When I first started reading this I thought a YA story. That was dismissed after a scene that had me wondering if this is parting a erotic novel. It does go there once and hints toward it many more times after but only the one scene is heavy. But not YA after that. Nope! I am not sure about her interest in guys, nor why so much focus there. She does have a healthy sexual appetite but I felt it deterred from the better parts of the story. It didn't need to be such a focus and it is why I say it borders being a erotica. And it just wasn't needed frankly.

I liked most of the characters more that I expected. Reilley starts off annoying but really improves over time. Ember is a hardworking lady who does what is needed to survive. Sasha was a surprise like as he is just so open and still respectful in many ways. I wish we got a better feel for Pika. His character seemed way underdeveloped.

The would love to learn more about these worlds the author has created. Both fairy and alternate earth. I can see others stories being set here. Overall I enjoyed this enough to read more by the author but I feel it is more a what I can borrow to read vs worth much money. Almost 3.5 stars.

This initially reminded me of snow white/Cinderella style story - a princess exiled by her wicked stepmother. But she is half fae!
However the addition of adventures on ships with pirates totally sold me on this one.
I also really enjoyed the steampunk setting - I haven't come across too many ones that are amazing within a fantasy genre.
I also enjoyed the female character being in control and saving the day - it made a nice change from normal fantasy books or normal books which include straight characters set for young adults.

I was first attracted by the cover of The Exiled Otherkin, giving me the feeling of a magical and fairy story.
The story starts off nicely, with a princess who is also a fairy but needs to hide identity. It's Interesting to read through. Recommend to read when felt bored of normal stories.

Fast paced and really sweet minus the obvious death. Warning does deal with sexual assault. I love Ember and Riley, what they face together and how they grow with each other. Liam is a twisted So and so, the stepmother your typical evil queen. I like the steampunk element and how smooth the story is in its progression. I feel sorry for Sasha and the water dude, their endings aren’t clear. I think it could have had one more chapter to wrap things up, because that was a really short epilogue that didn’t really give much away. Overall i thought it was an enjoyable read and the main character was fae, so that’s a bonus.

I enjoyed this book. The world created was original and interesting, the characters were mostly well-developed and the plot was good. I would rate this book a 5 star if the characters and the plot details were even more deeply detailed. The backstory and motivations were a bit too cursory and the potential was there to make a good book an outstanding one. It also ended in a too-easy and anticlimactic fashion. Still, I enjoyed the world created and the book.

It was going to be 5 stars until the end. the world building was awesome, very Parasol Protection Agency meets Sarah Maas and I liked the fact that it wasn't set 100% in a real fae vs earth scenario.. It was a great build, lots of in depth characters (can't say I liked her choices but ok). it was going great, lots of build, interesting characters. Then boom - 2 second ending. Honestly? I was hoping for some actual fight, maybe a second book with an uprising after this ending on her imprisonment? Nope. Climax builds aaaaaaaand done. Also I was really confused by Pika's age. The way the character was written at the beginning of the book makes him sound about 5 yet by the end of the book he seems 10-15 and it's only a matter of weeks. I wanted the evil queen to have some comeuppance and I got robbed of that. Peeved. Hence docking the star.

The Exiled Otherkin is definitely different than most books I’ve read. It’s dark and original. I really enjoyed it. It was entertaining, and well written.

A great blend between fairy and pirates. The story draws you in and keeps you hooked.

I liked how they characters interacted. It felt a little rushed at the end and I felt that some of the plot was due to what people wanted rather than whether it should happen.

The ending was good and rounded the book off nicely, although it did seem a little easy and quick.

Over all I thought it was a really good read and a great book for YA.

I loved this book, fast paced and I cared about the characters. Lots of twists and turns. I will read more by this author. I can hardly wait for the next book in the series if there is one.
I would recommend this to anyone that likes to read fantasy.

A new author to me and I had no idea what to expect but saw really great reviews so thought I'd read it for myself. First our heroine is half Fae and half human and a Princess to boot ! Oh that caught my interest and then she's in exile due to the quintessential evil stepmother. Now yes I was sort of reminded of Snow White but Ember doesn't hide amongst little men but instead onboard an airship so cue shiver me timbers shipmates and pirates as well ! Add in it's kind of a steampunk setting with several possibilities for a love interest and it was an enjoyable read.
Enjoyable yes and I liked the strong Ember but frankly thought it was a YA story until a couple of scenes disabused me of that idea ! Yes Ember has needs and doesn't shy away from that side of herself but honestly this is not really a very steamy story. Instead it's a journey of sorts as we learn through flashbacks exactly what has brought Ember to the place she's in now. I liked that Ember was this strong protective character as it made a pleasant change from the men swinging in to save the day. Perhaps the ending felt rushed after everything else but I can't fault the author for giving readers a happy ending.
