I enjoyed this book. The characters were interesting and the situations were well thought out. I would be interested to know if there is a sequel.
I really enjoyed this book. The story is sentimental and holds a lot of love in all its pages. The relationship between Cas and Anastascia is beautifully illustrated. Kelly Hunter instantly transports you to their world and you don't leave unscathed.
Shock Heir For The Crown Prince, is a romance book published by Mills and Boon in the 'modern' series.. Prince Casimir of Byzenmaach cannot forget the memory of Anastasia Douglas. With her, he lost himself in a moment of wild abandon. Now, seven years later, he must wed as his royal duty demands. He seeks out the Anastasia, only to discover he has a daughter. He is determined to claim them both…I really enjoyed this book.
Prince Casimir of Byzenmaach is being encouraged to marry but he can’t decide who he wants to be his wife. Seven years ago he had a whirlwind romantic week with Anastasia Douglas and he’s never forgotten her. He’d been able to be himself for that week, never telling her his real identity but then fate intervened and he had to abandon her to take up his responsibilities. Now he sets one of his Aides on discovering what she’s doing now and where she is. That’s when he finds out that she had his daughter . . . . He’s determined to get them both into his life.
I loved the dialogue and interactions in this story! The chemistry between the couple is explosive but, having been abandoned by him once, Ana is reticent to give him another chance - especially if that affects their daughter. However, for once the two actually act like adults and talk to each other - wow! There are some twists and turns to make this stand out from the crowd and it was a lovely story to escape into, especially if you’re in the mood for a light hearted, fun romance to read. I'll certainly look out for other books by this author and in this series!
I requested and received a copy of this novel via NetGalley. This is my honest review after choosing to read it.
Kelly Hunter is one of my favourite Mills & Boon writers, so I had high expectations of this - and I wasn't disappointed.
The writing is faultless, the humour delicious, the characters likeable and sympathetic. And the twist in the final part of the book had me holding my breath (I don't expect a twist in a M&B, but Ms Hunter made it work)..It wove together into a delicious royal fairy tale.
Classic Kelly Hunter. Classic Mills & Boon. Just perfect.
I hadn’t read a Kelly Hunter Presents before, but her debut Modern Heat (Tempted?)/Presents Extra is on my keeper shelf.
The opening prologue’s sexy tone was a bit off-putting, possibly because I hadn’t bonded with the hero yet? Because it promises Modern Heat/Tempted/Presents Extra-sexy rather than Presents? I can see why the writer did it. There’s no hero-heroine interaction, a lot of backstory/set-up and it’s a way of creating tension.
The first meet builds on the story foundations, but lacks fun dialogue or the passion and drama that I especially love in reunion stories. The heroine lying to her daughter SPOILER that her father had died END OF SPOILER and snapping at the servants for unpacking, however understandable when your world's been turned upside down, didn't help.
If the prologue sets a unPresents tone, then the suspense plot (SPOILER security teams around the house, kidnapping of hero’s sister and the staking out of the heroine and his daughter END OF SPOILER) maybe sets expectations a bit too strongly that this is going to be a suspense read.
Halfway - lots of Casamir-Ana interaction and it's great that their conflict is out in the open and talked about, and I like the heroine more now. Having lots of dialogue is fab. There’s also a lot of conversations with secondaries, making the world they inhabit more rounded, but diluting relationship intensity.
Great dialogue, above-the-surface stuff, secondary characters, setting and plot. But doesn't quite fit the lovely gilded Presents frame where I'd have liked more focus on the beneath the surface stuff.
Seven years ago Ana met Casimir they had a very passionate week. She didn't know who he was. Fast forward to the present and Cas still cant get her out of his head. His father the king is dying and he is soon to be married to a suitable bride. He asks an employee to look her up, he is hoping she is happily married so he can move on with his life. Instead he is in for the shock of his life. She has a little girl who is the image of his deceased sister. Ana has never fully gotten over him. She is quite happy with her life. Working for the UN as a translator and spending time with Sophia her daughter.
Cas is in a conundrum he knows if he claims his daughter its going to be a life of service for her. He is forced to make a decision when he seems someone else watching them. Cas walks unexpectedly back into Ana's life. Demanding that she and Sophia come back with him to his winter palace, where he can keep them safe. I loved how strong Ana was she stood up to Cas and wasn't prepared to settle for anything less than his love. I loved Cas too he stood no chance not falling head over heels for Ana and Sophia. I look forward to reading the rest of the novels in this series. Highly recommended for fans of contemporary romance.
I thought this was a truly wonderful offering from the world of mills and boon, definitely not one to miss , I absolutely adore Ana and cas.
Highly recommended
5 - "You're everything I never wanted and can't forget..." Stars!
I always say the same thing to myself at the finish of a book by this author, and it’s to question why I don’t read more from her. Shock Heir for the Crown Prince, is probably one of the best titles I have read from this imprint in the Mills & Boon stable for a while. I think when you pick up a book from this publisher there is a certain level of ‘knowing what you are going to get’, and although the tropes Kelly used in this book were standard, its all the little extras she put into it as well, that made it just pure escapist pleasure for me to lose myself in.
"I want to trust you to do the right thing by us. I want to believe I’ve done the right thing coming here."
I think the main thing that made this book such a winner winner was the verbal sparring between Ana and Cas, both of them didn’t take themselves too seriously, although the story line itself did hold a few heavier themes, the chemistry between them, and the fact they dealt with their drama like adults rather than drag things out just made this an all-round great read.
"All’s fair in love and negotiation."
Mills and Boon in general release books where you know exactly what you are going to get, Kelly just added something a little more special to this one, and I loved it. I cannot wait for the next book of the series; Convenient Bride for the King which luckily is due for release in a few weeks.
Sometimes she could have sworn she was living a fairy tale…
Must Read New Miniseries of 2018, 4.5 Stars 🌟
If you like your hero’s flawed but with good intentions and your heroines strong with a mind of their own, then I think you will love Ms Hunter's latest book; Shock Heir For The Crown Prince, part of her Claimed by a King miniseries.
In this book we meet Crown Prince Casimir of Byzenmaach who has the meaning of responsibility drummed in to him from a young age; his father is a tyrant and his future is shaped by the tragic events of his childhood. So when he meets Anastasia ‘Ana’ Douglas on his way home from delegate talks in Geneva, where Ana is a language student, Prince Casimir can not help but take advantage of that brief time to just be Cas and the freedom that comes from that anonymity. However, once that brief period of time is over Cas walks away from Ana back to his duties unknowingly leaving Ana with a permanent reminder of their time together. Fast forward seven years and Cas is still haunted by his memories of Ana and their time together and so decides to find Ana to finally put the past behind him, but what he finds changes the future for them both but can it lead to a HEA!
Ms K Hunter’s first book in her new miniseries is a perfect standalone in its own right but with the closing chapters twist, it also sets the scene for future books in the series with Convenient Bride for the King (coming soon) and references to Byzenmaach neighbouring monarchs Augustus of Arun, Theodosius of Liesendaach and Valentine of Thallasia all of which leaves the reader wanting more. Ms Hunter has written an emotional engaging story with strong characters that draw you in and will make you want to keep reading the whole series!
Fyi I received my copy from Netgalley and Mills and Boon via Mills and Boon Insiders, but this does not influence my opinions as all opinions are my own.
