"My Sister tells the story of Irini, who was given away by her parents at the age of three, whilst her volatile, destructive sister was kept within the family. Twenty years later Irini receives a phone call from her estranged sister to say that their mother has died, compelling her to return for the first time to the family home, and to uncover the shocking truth that has defined both their lives."

This book drew me in from the beginning and I did find it difficult to put down at time because I was so intrigued to follow the sisters Irini and Elle and their very dysfunctional family and find out why Irini was sent away at the age of 3 and why Elle was kept at home. The story was fast paced, complicated and took the reader on a great adventure.

However, in places I found the storyline to be a bit far-fetched and the ending was one step too far and became a bit unbelievable, in my opinion, and spoiled it rather for me. Also the emphasis on Irini's disfigured hip and the pain it caused her, walking difficulties etc. did grate a bit by the end.

A twisted psychological thriller which kept me glued to my kindle and turning the pages eager to find out more about Irini and Elle.

rini and Elle are estranged sisters due to Irini being made to live with their aunts qt a young age. Irini has spent her life hiding from Elle until she calls to say their mother has died. Returning to the family home a stranger and trying to find out why she was given away Irini is out of place. The more she resists Elle the harder Elle fights to ruin her life.

This was a great read and I despised Elle’s character as she was horrid which is how I expect the author wanted but she gave me the chills! Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

I found this book difficult to read. It had an eerie and, at times, creepy feel throughout which left me uncomfortable. I did, however, persevere and finish the book but I will not be recommending it to others.

The story is about two sisters,Irini and Elle, told from the point of view of Elle, and the fact that Irini was given away by her parents to an aunt who bought her up as her own. As the story unfolds, secrets are revealed and although some are obvious, there are others that I didnt' see coming however I felt uncomfortable reading this.

My Sister written by Michelle Adams is your typical psychological thriller that grabs the reader from the first page.
I did enjoy this book but it's not one that will be remembered in a years time.
The psychological aspects of the book were well written and engaging. It takes us on a journey through Irini and her sister Elle's lives and what happened when one sister was kept and one given away.
Elle is a truly despicable human being but I really could not understand the motive behind her parent's decisions- being a parent myself I just did not find this believable and was frustrating to comprehend.
There were many elements to this book that I didn't like but I kept on reading through them and did enjoy it overall.

Irini and Elle are sisters, one was given away aged 3 by the parents and the other stayed. Why? What did Irini do wrong? When the mum dies Elle contacts her sister and she’s drawn back into the family web and wants answers, they may not be what she wants to hear though.

I found Elle an absolute monster and the games she played with her sister was awful, cruel and just chilling really to be honest.

I raced through this book and was gutted when it finished, I can’t ait to get more from the author, a chilling but fascinating read....!

I really enjoyed this family based thriller- it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole story!

The slow burn worked well- usually I can become frustrated with these kinds of books- but this one worked well

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This was a well written book which I thoroughly enjoyed from the first page, despite it being more of a slow burn than the type of book I am usually drawn to. By the end of the book, the characters feel almost like members of your own family. The writer manages to capture their development within the chapters that the reader truly feels that they have grown up with them.

The revelations which are unearthed by the ending are stunning. The reader will never guess which route this book is heading in. A fantastic page-turning mystery.

‘My Sister’ is the debut novel by Michelle Adams and was released last year. I had heard lots of good things about the book from other bloggers and from some well known authors. The synopsis immediately interested me and so I was delighted to be asked to take part in the blog tour for the paperback release of the book. To say that I did enjoy the book is an understatement but more about that in a bit.
Hand on heart, I can’t say that I warmed to either of the lead characters. Elle seems like a total nightmare. She is the dominant of the two sisters and displays some disturbing behaviour, which immediately rang massive alarm bells for me. I won’t go into too much detail about what she does but what I will say is that she displays classical abusive behaviour. She dominates her sister Irini and I got the impression that Irini is actually frightened of Elle, which , to be honest, I am not surprised about. Elle seems very impulsive and reckless and often places herself in some dangerous situations. Personally I get the impression that she gets off on the adrenaline rush that such danger brings. Elle has wanted to find her sister for some time and she actually finds her, but has to break the news that their birth mother has passed away. Elle moreorless forces Irini to go back to her birth family’s home so that she can attend their mother’s funeral. There was more than one occasion where I wanted to slap Elle around the face with a wet fish for the way that she behaves around Irini, how she treats Irini, for her abusive and reckless behaviour and how she treats people in general. It’s just my opinion but Elle should be avoided at all costs. Irini is a different kettle of fish. I really did feel for her even if I didn’t take to her. Irini has the uncomfortable feeling that her parents sent her away because they were embarrassed by her and the disabilities that she has. Irini has a lot of unanswered questions as to her upbringing, the most of important of which is ‘why did you send me away and yet you kept Elle?’ Irini doesn’t feel anything for her birth mother to start with but as time goes on and Irini learns more about her family’s secrets and lies, Irini’s opinion of her birth family starts to change. Irini seems to be afraid of her sister Elle and has changed her living arrangements each time Elle discovers her address and pays her a visit. There doesn’t seem to be much of a sisterly relationship there. Why was Irini sent away and yet Elle remained in the family home? What secrets and lies come tumbling out of the closet? Is everything as it seems? Well for the answers to those questions and more you are just going to have to read the book for yourselves as I am not going to tell you.
‘My Sister’ is one heck of an addictive read. I was hooked from the first word on the first page and because I wanted to see which direction the book was heading in, I just had to keep reading. I needed my next fix of the book and so I needed to read more one chapter, just another chapter and well you get the picture. As I was so into the book, I didn’t notice how quickly the page numbers were flying past and how the time was passing. Before I knew it I had cleared a fair chunk of the book. The writing style is such and the descriptions the author uses, are so vivid that I could just imagine seeing the action play out in front of me. The action and events in this book are not particularly fast paced but that works really well in ‘My Sister’ as it allows you to get a sense of the gradual build up of tension that exists between the sisters and between Irini and her birth parents. ‘My Sister’ is like a rollercoaster ride with lots of twists, turns and moments where you can’t believe what you have just read so you have to reread the previous page to check that you weren’t imagining things. ‘My Sister’ is one of those books that will mess with your head and leave you unsure as to what to believe. That was certainly how I felt when I finished reading the book.
In short I really did enjoy Michelle Adams’ debut novel and I would definitely recommend it to other readers. Those who enjoy psychological thrillers will particularly enjoy it. ‘My Sister’ is a really good debut novel and I look forward to further books by Michelle Adams. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a well deserved 4* out of 5*.

This was a great book! I can see that reviews have labelled it as 'unsettling' and this is an accurate description. At times, it was difficult to read as it was just so real. A great story and a good book to debate the right and wrong action of the parents. Sisterly love. Interesting.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I received a digital ARC of #MySister by #NetGalley for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. Initially I was hooked, then for me it slowed down a little and I was thinking it would be a 4 star book - really good but something was missing. Then the last 20% or so it really picked up the pace and questions got answered. Those last few chapters turned it into a 5 star book for me. There were twists and turns, and I was on edge wondering when Elle would turn up and what she would do next. My only niggle with this book is that justice isn't really done in the end. I won't say anymore as I don't want to spoil it, but I would have liked certain people to have paid for what they did.

It's a slow burner. Irini is baffled why her parents kept her sister Elle and shoved her off to her unwelcoming Aunt & Uncle. Why did they do that? You quickly realise Elle is not the full shilling and worse as the story progresses. I don't have a sibling and this story makes me feel glad I didn't!!! I daren't give any more away. Thank you to NetGalley and Headline Publishing Group

The first few chapters were so unsettling that I have struggled to continue. I’m not sure if this is in the “just not for me” category. I will try again to read and continue.

This was a great read , with a few twists I really didn't see coming . I read a lot of thrillers and found this to be very original . We get the story from Irini who was given away by her parents at a really young age , she has spent her life wondering why and decides she must have answers when her sister Eve summons her back home for her mothers funeral . Her relationship with Eve is very troubled and she has spent her life running away from her and sneaking around to be with her in equal measure . In Eve we have a really dislikeable character who is a master manipulator and actually an horrible person , I found rini to be really weak and I was hooping that she would get some bottle and stand up to her sister once and for all . A great pacey read as we learn what had caused Rini's parents to give her away to her aunt . Really good 5 stars . Thank you for the opportunity to read this

I found this a very tense unsettling book which whilst it certainly kept my attention, I could not read the early parts of the book in one sitting as it was too harrowing at times. Early on in the book I did not care for either sister finding Elle spiteful and manipulative and Irini naïve and quite nasty at times. However Irini did grow on me whilst I found myself hoping that Elle got what she deserved!!. The tale of both girls growing up was told well and it was clear that both girls had an unhappy childhood. It was so sad that Irini did not discover her parents love for her until it was too late. Once the book got into the final third with the search for Elle and Irini and Matt searching for the answers, I galloped through it in one sitting. There were a few loose ends that I would have preferred to have been tied up - for example what exactly did Miss Endicott do to Elle and how her murder investigation was progressed and also what happened to Joyce and Frank and Aunt Jemima - why didn't she attend her sisters funeral. A book that will stay with me for a long time.
