To be completely honest I don't know why I read this, there's nothing wrong with it I just realised as I read it that I have no interest in the subject matter.
Was a quick read seeing as though I skim read nearly the entire thing but I know it will interest other readers who like the sort of book the authors are talking about.
*Huge thanks to Kate Nagy, Rachel Hyland, Overlord Publishing and NetGalley for this copy which I chose to read and all opinions are my own*
A good description and over all guide to this genre. I think its a book that is well suited to those who love this genre already and want a catalogue type review or for those who would like to know what this genre is all about.
You have to admit there is something a bit cheeky about an author doing one of these monster-and-classics mash-ups just to get published. But then the same must surely apply to the authors who have worked on this volume ABOUT said books. But they've done well. They've got a formula that's as perfectly simple as their inspiration - listing every time Jane Eyre has been bitten by vampires, or every time Rochester was known to be a werewolf, and so on, letting us know what is good and bad about each example, and that's about it. The fact they have gone right down to the dregs of the self-published world shows there is more to this than a fondness for the examples mainstream shops and reviews would have picked up on - this book attests to some authority in being so in-depth. But at the same time the formula has been spent, the genre is already dated and mostly forgotten, and need we see pencil sketches about the down-right dubious? Either way, this is a very competently presented book, and if you do feel the inclination to buy it, I'd certainly recommend making the purchase. Perhaps a higher star rating is in order - although their dislike of Heathcliff and much of Dickens is too evident.
