This was a book I needed to read. The storytelling is fantastic and magical. I'm really looking forward to seeing what Hyde writes next.
This does a good job of describing older siblings. They drive you nuts.... too much shared history... but no guarantee you all remember it the same.
My favourite parts were definitely the interaction between the three kids and their dad,how they disagreed on how he could look after himself, and how he should be looked after.
The pieces set in the past, whilst an important part of the plot, didn't hit home so much.
Over all ....nicely done.
A tale of family conflict and sibling rivalry. All the action takes place over a weekend (although it seems a very long weekend with all that happens) when the grown up children reunite at the father's (Murray) house. He has the idea to impart his plans for the future but as with these things and best laid plans the weekend doesn't quite pan out as expected. The book also reveals collective and individual family member secrets and also spends some time in the past around the time of the mother's (Lillian) death which also involved a brother who also died. Each sibling is very different in personality but together in their wishing to do their best for their elderly father and in their grief for their departed mother and brother. The book is quite observant with their different traits which most people would recognise in their own families. Well written and easy to read with some dry humour in places.
