Enjoyable read told from the point of views of sitsers Meg and Sarah who haven't spoken for many years. When they need to swap houses for 8 weeks they still don't really speak to each other, but as the ook progresses tehy open up to each other and start to share their lives again.
A book about family, and and entertaining story.
I loved this book. A very heartfelt story. The characters are well developed. Enjoyed the hustling lifestyle of London and the laid back attitude of the Suffolk country side. Sarah and Meg only saw grief and mourning of their parents untimely death through their own eyes. After twenty years they do a sister swap.
An enjoyable read that provides a reminder to not always do what we’ve always done...
From mistrust and misgivings to farms and frolics, this book brings the contrasts between city and country living whilst demonstrating the highs and lows of both.
A fun tale full of believable (though somewhat frothy) characters and admittedly some eye candy - though my favourite was the country lady, Violet.
I needed an easy read to get me through a rather challenging period... and this was just what I needed.
4*
With a busy work schedule, I don't get as much time to read as I used to, which means when I do pick up a book lately, I want it to transport me to another place and take my mind off the real world for a while. You know that feeling of just sinking into your pillow in utter relaxation mode? Well, that's exactly what I got this past week while reading this new delight from Fiona Collins.
I love romance and being completely swept up by bright blue eyes, abs of steel and comedians, but sometimes it's lovely to read a book where the main story isn't a fairy tale guy meets girl and goes after girl until they live happily ever after story. You may be thinking "but Kelly this happens in this book!" yes, yes it does and it's completely charming but it isn't the main story. The main story is all about sisters Meg and Sarah. Who have quite the story indeed.
Meg left home twenty years ago and made a fabulous life for herself in London. She owns Tempest model agency and absolutely loves her job. So when she collapses at work and is told by doctors she must take a break for two months, she is devastated. Even more so when the only place she can possibly think of going to get some 'fresh country air," is back home to her sister's cottage. Is that even possible?
Sarah is restless in the country. Her twins are growing up and heading off to collage soon, well one of them is, and there's only so much wandering around her apple orchard she can do. So when she sees an advertisement for her old job in London, on a whim she applies for it. She is dumbfounded when she actually gets it, but feels it could be a new start and a chance for her to do something for her again. The only problem is she needs to be in London soon and a hotel wouldn't be ideal. Is she really going to make the call to the only person who may be able to help her, after all this time?
I really enjoyed this story. Like I said earlier, I felt completely content and relaxed reading it each night and even took it took work so I could squeeze in a little reading time while waiting for my shift to start. I became absorbed in the lives of Meg and Sarah and equally loved the country life and the hustle and bustle of London life. I would probably be more of the country gal, however, in another life I have to say the excitement of events organizing does seem rather fun and glamorous (at times!)
I will admit that at first, I felt like I couldn't connect to Meg and Sarah, because my mind was so sad that they hadn't spoken for so long and weren't interested in reconnecting again. Having two sisters who I wouldn't know what to do without, made me feel like how could you possibly be like that? As their story progressed and unraveled though, I started to really sympathize with them both and understand the pain and heartbreak each sister had gone through. Events happen in life and we all deal with them in different ways. The Sister Swap was perfect to get Meg and Sarah to realize what the other had to deal with all those years ago when they first fell out. I loved each little eureka moment and each little sister win when they slowly started communicating again. By the end of the story I literally felt teary and so happy, that they found a little bit of that happily ever after together - not just with men, but there is that too and it's so, so cute!
I will mention the men now because they were incredibly sweet. There was no messing around with Jamie and Dylan which was a super plus for me! I don't like too much back and forth and games when it comes to romance. These men knew what they liked and spoke from the heart! Brownie points and plenty of them! :)
If you are looking for a new read that has heart, glamour, empowerment and plenty of fresh country air, then I definitely recommend 'The Sister Swap.' Get it now, relax and enjoy! :)
Two sisters with opposite lives and one fallout between them...
After their parents were killed when Meg was a derailing teenager and Sarah was mid twenties, a resentment grew between the sisters as Sarah took over their parents role in Meg's life and Meg destroyed something precious.
Now years later...
Meg was working in the busy city for a modelling agent until after fainting at work her doctor tells her to take some relaxation time off in the country.
Sarah is used to being behind a tractor but craves her city life and events planning job back after her ex husband has long gone and her kids are adults now too. She also seems tired of being a children's entertainer when required.
The two make a brief call between them and agree to swap homes for the two months Meg is signed off for. Communicating through email as they swap homes, Meg takes over Sarah's life drawing class, running of the phone box library and meets the local vet Jamie, his mum Violet and her terror of a dog, Garfield. Meanwhile, Sarah settles back into life under Michael, her old boss's expertise and helps firstly organize a baby shower and soon realizes clientele these days go for the money extravagant events where she rekindles a friendship of sorts with Dylan and old colleague. She also has to face Felicity her new job rival as she tries to sabotage plans she makes for events!
Ooh Fiona can't half write a cracking book! I fell in love with the storyline and was rooting for both sisters to get the happy ever afters hinted at for them both love and work wise! I wasn't disappointed and loved when they reunited in person over Sarah's daughter running off with her boyfriend! It was sweet and moving yet hard hitting with the children's life choices being made. I was overjoyed that both grown up women felt able to fulfill their need and want in life. This is a book for anyone craving a life change but may be too scared to, this book will inspire you!
Many thanks to be publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!
A quick easy read about two sisters who were so stubborn they didn't talk for 20 years.
The Sister Swap is an enjoyable read that actually is a bit deeper than the cover implies. Though it certainly isn't a serious book, Collins created complex characters that you find yourself rooting for throughout the book. A great novel!
I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. In fact, I read it in two sittings! It’s one of those books where you know where it is going, so you enjoy seeing how it gets there. A lovely, heart warming, easy read. This is my first book by Fiona Collins and I am definitely going to buy more from her soon!
I've read and loved all of Fiona Collins' books and was so happy to get have this review copy. I find her books similar to sitting down with a really good friend over a glass of wine or two and having such a laugh while she regales me with stories. I love her sense of humour; she has a great understanding of her characters. This is such a feel-good book - it's put me into a great mood. It's romantic, funny, wistful at times, dry at other times. I can highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys romantic comedies.
Interesting premise for this book, and it actually hits close to home. I have two sons who are estranged, and I was thinking that maybe they should read this! Lots of miscommunication in this story of two sisters who have been estranged for years, but now find they need to a) move to London; b) move to the country and decide to swap places. Both find love in their new locations, and breach the gulf of the intervening years to effect a reconciliation. If only life was so simple!
The Sister Swap by Fiona Collins a four-star read that will make you want to run to the country. Its taglined as the comedy of the year, and it is funny but not in the way some people will imagine. I know not everyone will understand how the sisters can go from not speaking to the swap but I have been in a similar situation with a family member and have gone from not being able to be in the same room to being the person I call upon when I need to talk, all because of one event. Its true something will shake you and you no matter what you will want to grab those closest to you and keep them close, weather you will always be able to keep the closeness is something only time can tell, and the end of the story of course. Meg and Sarah are both very different people and I think that is why the story works so well, as even though they are very different they have stark similarities. If you are looking for a light-hearted read with some comedy elements that you can while a couple of hours away with this fits the bill, if you are looking for laugh out loud all the way through, or deep drama maybe look at something else. But if you are a lady of a certain age like me then you can’t always deal with laugh out loud all the time without leakage and this book will make you chuckle enough that you will enjoy but not leak!!
The Sister Swap is a cute, lighthearted read with a sweet cast of characters who quickly took my heart. This is an enjoyable read, one that would be perfect for your summer beach bag!
Another first read by this author and a little different to what i am normally reading therefore i am delighted to report i througholly enjoyed the book. It is Laugh out Loud comedy throught the book and its certainly a page turner.
We had two sisters who live apart and havent seen never mind spoken to one another in 12 years.... one is a city high business woman running her modelling business and the other is bringing up her teenage twins in the country, how different can they be? But realities endure them having to swap their lives for the time being, city slicker needs to re locate due to hypertension and country bum has a tempoaray job in london so they decide to swap without even meeting beforehand.
The questions sits with Can Meg survive the country? and can sarah survive the city? both have to cope on their own with two teenage kids in tow living in the country house, theres such laughter in this andsuch seriouness that they relaise they need each other. Read the book, you will love it.
While very very predictable, this book was still good for laughs. You've got two opposites who switch places and find out that the grass is greener on the other side (at times), but still comes with its share of issues. Each sister finds that they can belong in both places and that they are responsible for their own happiness. It's nice how the family dynamics work out in the end, too.
Sisters Meg and Sarah haven't been close in years. But when Meg's doctor orders her to have 8 weeks of R&R in the country due to high blood pressure she calls Sarah to see if it's ok to come home to their family house in the country only to find Sarah has accepted a job in London and needs a place to stay. A house swap seems a good idea for these two in theory... but can Meg handle leaving London for her childhood home and living with the niece and nephew she doesn't really know? Can Sarah really turn back the clock and return to the job she left 20 years ago?
This was a pretty fun read overall.
This is my first book by this author and will not be my last at all it was excellent from the beginning. Full of romance and sisters who don't get on and haven't for years but they swap where they are living and can they make up or not. Great characters and so true to life and family issues and rows.
There is Sarah who lives in the country and has two grown up children who don't need her any more so she decides to apply for jobs and sees her old job up so applies and never dreams she will get it but it's in London so can she do it. Meg her sister lives in London and has a successful model agency and falls ill at work and learns she has high blood pressure and been told to move to the country and have a slow life. Only problem is she only knows her sister who lives in the country and she hasn't spoken to her for years. She rings her and they end up swapping houses and can they be happy living in places they aren't use to and can they make a life and be happy and find love or are they not looking for that. Can they realise they do need each other and make it up or not.
Great read and now want to read more by this author.
I love Fiona Collins books and this one is no exception. The storyline is straightforward, two sisters with very different lifestyles swap their lives. So we have a country girl transplanted into the city and the high flyer takes a break in th3 country. But what makes the book is the strong and realistic characters, the humourous dialogue and the dynamic between the protagonists. You will be hooked!
