I really liked how this book gave a nice overview of the different types of yoga and the benefits of each of them, which offers a nice way for readers to learn what is their personal best type to achieve what they want or find the right fit for themselves.

This book does touch on the topic of religion and shares the origins in the Indian religion with how yoga and meditation was a way to connect and communicate with god. But i think it is very possible to not read those parts if they are not something you are interested in. I personally found it interesting to learn more about the origins and what people wanted to achieve by learning and doing yoga and meditation at the time of the beginnings of it.

This book is a fantastic guide book -both as introductions but also to deepen the practice and learn more about the topic itself but also about yourself and how and why you practice and learn to better it all.

But it's not an easy read or a fast one. Its a book that you need to take your time with, read it slowly and don't overwhelm yourself with the information or you will miss out on what the book is trying to say.

The yoga we do today has changed greatly from its origins.
For the first time I was able to delve into both the history and the religion surrounding yoga, as well as the different types and styles.
Clearly, logically, and expertly written, this book is very informative and provides an unbiased, analytical discussion of yoga.
For someone who wants to take their practice to the next level and is looking to understand the history and religious background, this is a great option.

One thing I don't see often enough in Yoga books is the history of where it all started, so I was already impressed that this one's intro jumped right in with some facts of meditation and yoga. They also explain the different types of yoga and each one's benefit.

Keep in mind that this book also delves into the religious aspect, as this was originally an Indian religion. This book touches on the topic of spirit, body and mind; finding your higher purpose and learning self-discipline. You'll also learn that meditation, for the Indian people, was a way of pure communication and connection with God.

The meditation part was never an easy thing for me, as I get easily distracted and bored. I have to always be busy (yet I can binge watch the entire Harry Potter series in one weekend, or read an entire series without pause). I definitely need a lot of practice still, but this book helped me in understanding the true meaning of meditation and how it can be beneficial for my mental and spiritual health. Will keep it up...

This passage really caught my attention:
"Life is not about having no problems: it's about learning how to face up to them boldly. Fly from problems and they will keep following. Face them boldly and they will flee. Instead of closing oneself up in a shell and let life go by, one should live it, and feel brave enough to battle all problems."

I'm making this my mantra for difficult problems and decisions going forward.

We also learn a lot of life lessons and there is so much that you'll be thinking about, after reading this book. I will probably keep re-reading some of these passages, as they have so much meaning and importance to me. It is a lot to take in, but if you want this to influence your lifestyle, then you have to be ready to put in the time necessary for this to change and improve you. While reading this book, you'll learn so much about yourself, your shortcomings in different areas of your life (this is one that surprised me), and the life you could have if you choose to work for a higher purpose. 100% worth any 'yoga lover' or 'guru's' time. And I need to get a physical copy to travel around with me everywhere...

One tip - Take your time to read this one. Reading too much in one sitting will overwhelm you with information and you'll miss out on a lot of what is important to remember.

I highly recommend this book for all students of Yoga and Mediation who are seeking further knowledge. The author has included poses, intricate awareness practice and knowledge about the science of Mediation. I found it very helpful and informative to my own practice. I will definitely be referring to this book for personal education on Mediation science.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked that it combined meditation and yoga to help us live better lives.
