this book was good! It kept me on my toes and I honestly couldn't figure out "whoddunit" until the last few chapters. Definitely worth the read!
Copy kindly received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Enjoy this series. Shows what some families will go through and how their actions affect other people and family members.
I have enjoyed this book a lot. Patricia Gibney is a favourite author of mine and i have enjoyed all of her books
Had I known this was a series I would have looked into reading the first ones. I hate to read a series out of order. It was a very good book. Great storyline and wonderful characters. Now I have to go read the other books. Thank you for the honor of reading this one though.
Another great instalment of this fantastic series. As usual looking forward to the next.
When a dead body is found at the bottom of an open grave during a funeral, Detective Lottie is sent to investigate in what will be the most intense case of her life.
When a young woman disappears from a train no one believes anything bad has happened even though a young woman had disappeared in the same manner 10 years before. Detective Inspector Lottie Parker decides to investigate when a young woman says she heard a scream the night before in the cemetery, Lottie and her partner decide to check it out and while there discover a funeral in progress, but when they find another body while the casket is being lowered they know they have found their missing woman.
A suspense filled read with an outcome that no one will suspect. You will be reading well into the night with this one.
Please tell me the next book in this series is the final one. I am not that good with a story that takes several volumes and this is taking so long. That's just me, not the book, I guess.
But back to the story - No Safe Place is again about Lottie and her family. But unlike the first three books, Lottie is not as obsessed with her pills even though she still manages to drink too much and piss off her deputy boss.
This is book 4 in the Detective Lottie Parker series and just a little bit different. The focus is more on the actual investigation, rather than on Lottie's turbulent, personal life. I do hope to see more of Boys's character in the next book though and I imagine Lottie might just find a wee touch of happiness. She has her flaws but the book was gritty, tense and a cracking good read. As always, another excellent read with a nice twist at the end, from Patricia Gibney. I would recommend reading her books. Many thanks to Net Galley for my copy. I reviewed on Amazon, Facebook and Goodreads.
This is the fourth book in the series featuring DI Lottie Parker and each one seems to get better. We are reunited with Lottie and her dysfunctional family as she recovers from her previous injury. The book is gripping from the beginning when the bodyof a young woman is found in a freshly dug open grave. It becomes apparent that there are links with another young woman going missing years earlier and both of them disappeared after leavng the train at the local station. There is so much going on in this book you will not want to put it down. I was actually gasping at the end as it left me wanting to learn more. I just hope that it won’t be too long before the next book, a great big 5*.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
Lottie Parker is a great character. She is very interesting and comes alive through the pages. Every book that she is in will be a must read for me.
I enjoyed this story a lot, it was fast paced and full of twists
Good Golly Miss Lottie! Another good one by Ms. Gibney. Lottie is a messed up cop, mom and lover, but you just can't help rooting for her and liking her. It's nice to get to know more about her team as these books progress. As usual, I am looking forward to the next one.
4.5 stars (rounded to 4 stars)
Another winner from Irish author Patricia Gibney! Over the last four years Bookouture has amassed a huge stable of crime fiction/ thriller authors. Of this large pool of writers, Patricia Gibney, in my opinion, is in the top 3 of the very best. She’s that good.
DI Lottie Parker and her team return intact. This time they take on a complex assignment involving numerous (one being a cold case) women disappearing off trains, two deaths by fire, and rape. Lottie is juggling all this with a nasty piece of work boss who is out to get her, an aggressive crime reporter, fractious family relationships (and I’m not talking about Lottie’s family), and crimes of prejudice. I liked that there was less angst involving her children in this one. But Lottie is still struggling with her relationship with Boyd. (Note to Lottie: Open your eyes, woman!!!)
She is also dealing with several residual issues stemming from the last book, The Lost Child.
I like Lottie a lot. She is a drinking, pill-popping mess of a woman who has no social skills whatsoever. But she still has me cheering like crazy for her. And I really love her right hand man Boyd. The other members of her team, Lynch and Kirby, are developed a tad more this time out, but I would love to see their characters really step out so I could enthusiastically cheer for them too.
The other players in this installment are well written. I enjoyed the fact that several of them (most notably Donal and Queenie) are elderly. There is a big cast to stay on top of and I did have to use the search button a few times to remind myself who was who.
The book starts out with a chilling prologue that ensnared me immediately. The book and I were off and running from that point on. Let me just say that the ending left me thrilled that there is obviously much more fodder for many more books, but at the same time saddened as it will be many months until I can see what Lottie and Boyd are up against next.
I am pleased that the author keeps a few irons in the fire from book to book. This is bad news for those who like to skip around when reading a series, but whose fault is that? Not Ms. Gibney’s!
I do beg Bookouture to change up the covers in this series. Does Ms. Gibney have to forever and ever have a girl in a coat running away from the reader? This cover has been used a bajillion times. I am attracted to the unique and original these days. These tired covers that you see so often today are no longer eye catchers, at least not to my eyes. And I think it’s an injustice for an elite writer to have such mundane book covers. She deserves something new that will grab a reader’s attention.
Please send the backwards girl in a coat to book cover heaven.
If you are a thriller reader, you must try Patricia Gibney’s Lottie Parker series. It’s one of the best contemporary series out there. Trust me.
This case is becoming personal to Boyd, when his sister Grace makes a new friend, Mollie, on the train to Dublin and this new friend disappears. Grace is not giving up and is trying to find out what happened to Molli. Then Grace disappears too and an old unsolved disappearance may be the only lead to all missing girls.
DI Lotti Parker is not a very likable or easy person. Always on the verge to a break down, drinking to much and her children often have to fend for themselves. So, why is it I like these books about her so much+ maybe it’s because Lotti Parker has flaws some a real person. She’s not some superhero, saving the day, raising her kids and always smiling. The only thing I really hope for, is that she will find a way to see how good Boyd is for her and stop fighting him. I highly recommend the DI Lotti Parker series! I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture!
Another excellent instalment in what is proving to be a very good series. In this episode a body is found in a freshly dug grave and girl are going missing after catching the commuter train home to Ragmullin from Dublin. Detective Lottie Parker remembers a similar case from ten years ago, a missing girl, never found but last seen on the train, and wonders if a serial killer is at work. But why has he waited ten years to take another girl?
I liked that there was less focus on Lottie's family and her problems and more on the cases she and her team are investigating. Detective Lottie Parker's team of Boyd, Lynch and Kirby are as reliable as ever and their personal lives do feature without dominating the plot, although Boyd's younger sister Grace does play a major role. Lottie has a new temporary boss to deal with who she can't stand and the feeling is mutual so that's causing a lot of friction. Lottie herself seems to be a bit more stable than previously, still popping pills and drinking but not so out of control. Her relationship with her kids seems to have improved, although that with her mother is still unresolved. Her on again/off again feelings for Boyd are starting to drag and it would be good to see a resolution one way or other soon as there is danger of Boyd's (and the reader's) patience wearing thin.
The plot moves at a good pace as Lottie's team investigates the cold case and the current disappearances all while trying to avoid the new boss. The ending is very tense as they race the clock to slot all the pieces of the puzzle into place.
I am a massive fan of this series and I love the characters that Patricia Gibney has created. This is the fourth book in the series and for me they are getting stronger and better as the series continues. They are definitely books that I look forward to reading and it is one of my favourite crime series out at the moment.
I love the writing style used in the series and it was just excellent in this one, the plot was really good and well planned out to make sure you were gripped from the beginning. I love Lottie Parker and her team, she has baggage at home and chaos at work, she is actually a genuine character that I can really relate too at times.
Another 5 star read - very highly recommended - really, really enjoyed it!
There are a lot of good books out there with interesting, strong, female detectives but I have to admit that Lottie Parker is one of my favourites. She is dedicated to her job and her somewhat dysfunctional family and seems to spend her life lurching from one disaster to another. She cares about people and that is what makes her good at her job- even if her superiors don't always approve of her methods.
On a traveller's site a young woman hear what she believes to be the wail of a banshee. The next day a funeral is disrupted when a girl's body is found in a freshly dug grave.
Young women who travel on the early commuter train are going missing. Whilst investigating this, the team find the case is similar to a girl who went missing ten years ago. Is there a connection? Does this involve the travellers? Many people would like to think so.
This is a totally enthralling plot with lots of interesting trails to keep the reader guessing. Lottie's team of Kirby, Lynch & of course Boyd all add to the enjoyment of the story. I can't wait for the next installment! Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read this book.
If you’re a regular reader of my little blog you’re probably well aware that I’m a huge fan of the Lottie Parker series and I can’t believe this is already book four! While technically you definitely could read this as a standalone I don’t recommend it as it’s such a great mix of police procedural and thriller with deeply drawn characters and you would truly be missing out on pertinent background information.
Lottie feels like an old friend at this point albeit one that’s a bit of a mess, but a lovable mess. Her personal life is as crazy as ever and her work life isn’t much better. This series has the perfect blend of personal and professional, I’m equally invested in both and I really feel like I know Lottie as a character. Her and Boyd are one of my favorite duos, they just have such a wonderful rapport that leans to the sarcastic side which is right up my alley.
This spans the course of five days as Lottie and team work relentlessly to find missing women and a killer. It all seems like it could be related to a cold case but per usual there are more questions than answers which always keeps things fresh and exciting. There’s a large cast of supporting characters and various interesting subplots that keep things intriguing and impossible to predict where things are headed.
Strong, sharp writing, highly complex plotting and characters that I truly care about combine together to make a recipe for success for me! I’m a firm fan of these books and the author, if you haven’t started them yet, get cracking!
No Safe Place in three words: Intricate, Sharp and Gritty.
Am I the only one who wonders why people, namely her colleagues, have it in for Lottie? Yes she is incredibly blunt, and yes she is very black and white, but she still gets the job done! I am a massive fan of Lottie Parker, can you tell?
A body has been found in a grave. Not really a shock though is it, considering that is what graves are there for! The only slight difference is, the body wasn't in a coffin and, due to a woman going missing a few days prior, Lottie Parker's sense are on high alert. Could the body be that of the missing woman's? Parker's day goes from worse to horrific when she finds herself working with a new boss. A boss she cannot stand, the joys!
Parker's new boss actually started rubbing me up the wrong way too, goodness knows how annoyed Lottie was! The more he kept annoying her, the less time she had to spend on her cases, the one he was on her case about to begin with. I mean, really?
'No Safe Place' is probably the most gripping one of Patricia Gibney's books I have read. Instead of just focusing on one or two murders and the odd crime, this storyline covers so much more which meant that whenever I began a new chapter, there seemed to be yet another situation for Parker to try to solve. There's fast paced and then there's rocket paced - 'No Safe Place' is definitely rocket paced that's for sure! I was gripped by every situation that cropped up, causing me to constantly put my hand to my mouth in shock.
Due to how busy the storyline was, there were a lot of characters to try to keep track of but, weirdly enough, I wasn't at all confused and loved how diverse each of them was. There seemed to be various fingers pointing at multiple characters, making it a lot harder to try and filter the culprit out of the line up. My gut instinct chose one character, yet my head chose another one. It felt like every single person in this book was guilty of something!
'No Safe Place' blew my mind and left me out to dry. What a fantastic, jaw dropping read this is! I loved how complex the storyline was, and I especially loved how rocket paced this book was. Every character and every scenario just seemed to work very well together, making 'No Safe Place' an absolute belter of a book. If I could give this book a truck load of stars, it still wouldn't be enough - that's how incredible I thought this book was. Phenomenal read, I can't recommend it enough!
From my blog: Always With a Book:
This is the fourth book in Patricia Gibney's Detective Lottie Parker series and I just love this series! I really do think it gets more involved and creepier as the series progresses and I fall more in love with the characters each time. It's one dark, crazy, twisted crime series for sure, but I wouldn't have it any other way!
What I loved about this latest installment was that right from the beginning we are pulled into the investigation and immediately start questioning who might be behind it. There are quite a few suspicious individuals that we meet along the way that I found myself constantly wavering back and forth as to whether they were behind everything...I loved this!
I also loved that once again not only do we have the police investigation going on, but there is plenty of character development happening. Detective Lottie Parker is one complicated gal - she has a lot on her plate at any one time and things never seem to be smooth sailing for her. Lottie is trying to figure out if there is any room in her life for a relationship and trying to juggle that with work, her children and her mother. She certainly isn't a perfect person - she's constantly struggling with her drinking, she pops pills like there's no tomorrow, she has a hard time holding her tongue to her superiors, and she can be abrasive and snarky - but she's a strong character and I enjoy reading her story!!!
This is one intense, chilling read that will have you devouring the pages - and let me tell you, despite it's length, these books are quick reads! Once you start them, you find yourself quickly immersed in the story, and with some of the chapters coming in a page or two, you find yourself flying through them. I love that Bookouture lets me read these books ahead of time, but I hate that now I have to wait until Patricia Gibney has written the next book...I want more Detective Lottie Parker!!!
