A sweet story, easy to read. William Woolf is a letter detective - working for the post office trying to track down the intended recipients of lost mail items; he comes across a stream of letters from 'Winter' who is writing to her as yet unknown one great love. Could this be William? We follow his journey as he follows the clues to lead him to Winter, at the same time as following the trials and tribulations of his marriage to Clare. Who is William's real true love, and will everything end happily?
This is one of the loveliest books I've ever read - a really novel idea of what happens to all those letters which don't get through - is there really such a department because there should be! I didn't think I would warm to the character of William but he's just so hopelessly keen to solve them all yet can't see the problems in his own life until it's almost too late. I also really want to go to Dublin now as the picture painted of the city sounds so appealing.
I really struggled with this book and have for now given up will try again another time
William Woolf works at the Dead Letters Depot in East London, He is a letter detective who spends his days at work solving mysteries: Looking through the thousands of letters that have ineligible handwriting, missing or incorrect addresses and trying to reunite them with their correct recipient.
But when William discovers letters addressed simply to 'My Great Love', his work takes on new meaning. Written by a wistful woman to the soulmate that she does not yet know. William finds himself drawn into the mystery of finding out who the author is and to who the letters are for.
A pleasant read.
