This is the second book in the Nantucket series. I enjoyed the history surrounding Nantucket and the whaling ships. The Quakers are a very interesting group of people. Their use of language and clothing set them apart from others. Jane and Daphne's mother was very hard to like. The journal of Mary was very helpful to fill in blanks in the story. Anyone that enjoys history will like this book. Recommended!

Book two of Suzanne Woods Fisher's Nantucket Legacy Books, Minding the Light is a lovely read. This book takes place in the Quaker community on Nantucket Island during the days when whaling was an important way of life. When Captain Macy returns after six years of being gone he discovers everything on the island has changed. Full of remorse from being gone so long he must continue on with life. Daphne sees through him and encourages him back to his Quaker roots. His partner wants him to get back to sea with a new ship. Betrayal, financial woes and romance make this a great sequel.

I loved Suzanne woods Fisher books she tells them so good loved the settings the title and the characters!

In book two of the Nantucket Legacy series by Suzanne Woods Fisher, we meet the great granddaughters of Phoebe, our Friend from book one. Minding the Light brings us Daphne and Jane, two young ladies who are excitedly awaiting the arrival of Jane’s husband, Ren Macy, as he pulls into harbor after six long years on a whaling voyage. Moments after Ren arrives, Jane faints on the docks. When she passes away, she leaves her and Ren’s twin children in his care. Unfortunately, they don’t know their father. Her sister Daphne steps in to help and the two of them work together to care for the children. As they spend time together, Daphne finds herself growing fond of Ren, but everyone believes she is destined to marry his cousin Tristram.
During this time, Daphne has been reading Great Mary’s journal, which has been passed down from generation to generation for two hundred years. Their stories are surprisingly similar and Daphne is grateful for all that she reads. The two stories combine to bring a love story that is powerful and strong and based on the light within us all, our Lord Jesus.
I absolutely loved this book (as I do all of Suzanne’s!!!). It was great to read and I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I wouldn’t mind a few short stories between now and then to tell us more of their adventures, either! I received a free copy of this story from NetGalley for my honest review. All opinions are my own. If you haven’t read the first one, Phoebe’s Light, you should definitely read it and follow it with this one!

This was a good follow up to the first book in this series. I thought the romance aspect of this book did not flow well. It seemed as if just one day they both suddenly discovered they had feelings for each other. It also ended very abruptly and unsatisfactorily.
