One evening in early August, while mashing the potatoes for dinner, Connie McColl decides she’s had enough…

After years of being at the beck and call of her husband and children, Conniee age of 66 decided that she was done living for others. She decided that she needs some time away and goes on an impromptu solo trip in her little car.

The trip helps her come to grips with what she wanted in life, while forcing her to face up to things she had been suppressing or trying to push away into the deepest recesses of her mind.

As we go on the journey with Connie, it is difficult not to think of what we would do if we went on a solo holiday like that. A wonderful read, one that had me cheering for Connie as she went on her adventure of self discovery. A lovely book that I would easily recommend.

Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for the review copy of this book.

I really enjoyed this book the storyline is different from what I have read before.

This book was funny in places but sad in other places I like reading about the adventures Connie got up to. It makes you wonder what you would do if you wanted to runaway from the life you have this book was very well written and once you start reading you can't stop.

Connie who is 66 years old has decided she's been taken advantage for far too long and she "needs" to get away from it all and take an adventure. Does she ever! I was laughing out loud at several spots in the book. The characters she meets along the way are very interesting and it makes for great entertainment. Being that I've never been to London or Scotland, it made me feel like I was there. And I totally did not see the ending coming! WOWSERS! I really enjoyed Connie's travels and hope they'll be another book with more adventures . 5 stars for me! Thank you for this complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. Light and fluffy chick-lit with a familiar plot line. A British women of a certain age is fed up with being taken for granted by her family so she takes off on a road trip of self-discovery. Connie, our main character, visits old friends and makes new ones as she drives steadily north reflecting on her life and how she has ended up so unhappy during her retirement. All is resolved and the world continues to turn.

A pleasant read with no big surprises.

This tells the story of Connie who has enough of being invisible and being the family dogsbody. She leaves on a trip to find herself again and just leaves a note for her husband and family. In her faithful car Kermit Connie embarks on a trip where the fun and adventure begins. I loved this book and didn't want it to end. I enjoyed the story so much and all the wonderful people Connie meets along the way. This a lovely and cheerful read but poignant at the same time. It speaks of real feelings and problems that could be faced in marriages. I could definitely sympathise with Connie. There was a lot of truth to Connie's story.I highly recommend this book.

This is an enchanting story of one woman (Connie) in her early sixties who decides that she's had enough of being taken for granted as a wife, mother, and grandmother. She packs up her car and goes on a very long road trip through the entire country of England, plus Scotland. The people she meets along the way are intriguing and she makes some new friends and meets some people who don't take her for granted, which is healing and uplifting to her heart.

I enjoyed this book- first of all because I've never been to England or Scotland, and I felt like I was there- seeing what Connie saw, exploring the sights through her eyes and ears. The second reason I enjoyed this book is because of the ongoing theme of creating a life that you love, that you are passionate about. Also, Connie taking back her own power and creating a new life for herself.

The only reason I am giving this lovely novel 4 stars instead of 5 is that I felt it was a bit too long in the middle. A few of the adventures could have been left out, making it a smoother transition towards the ending.

Thanks to Netgalley for my copy.

Fed up of being ignored by her husband and being used as a babysitter by two of her three children Connie packs a bag and leaves her family in her clapped out car Kermit.

With no plan or timeline she sets out on an adventure and meets a whole list of colourful characters who all in their own way show Connie there is nothing wrong in wanting more in your life even at the age of 66.

This is a light fun read with some laugh out loud moments but also some tender and sad subjects.

3.5 Stars.

Sixty-six year old Connie suddenly decides that she's had enough. She decides that she's tired of being taken advantage of and she's tired of the monotony of her life. Her husband is always at the golf course and expects her to be ready to drive him home and have the dinner ready and the house cleaned. Her children take her babysitting services for granted. So...Connie has decided that it's time for a little excitement. She takes off in her little green Ford and hopes to remember who she once was and to figure out what her future will hold. Along the way, Connie meets up with old friends and unexpectedly discovers new friendships that will last a lifetime.

This is a fun, light read. It would be a great book to read while sitting by the pool on a warm Summer day. There's not a whole lot of depth to this story, but a fun, adventurous and lovable Connie keeps the book interesting. I must note that I am rather perplexed by the author's choice of cover art. Connie takes off in her rickety, old, green Ford. The little green car has meaning in the book and is referenced many times. I'm curious why that isn't the car of choice on the cover. Connie isn't a whimsical, blue, convertible gal. It just doesn't fit. That aside, I recommend this for a lighthearted read.

I received this book through Netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Netgalley.com, to Bookouture, and to Dee MacDonald for this wonderful opportunity.

I thoroughly enjoyed this tale of Connie and her adventures.

Connie is an older lady who is living an unfulfilling life with her dull husband. She is taken for granted by everyone, especially her children and her husband, and is feeling unappreciated and stifled.

One day, she decides she has had enough, gets into her ancient green car and takes off, up North, with no clear sense of where she is going. This book is all about what she does, who she meets along the way, and how everything she experiences changes her. All of this has repercussions for her marriage and her family....for the better or for worse? You will have to read the book and see :)

I absolutely loved this book. OK, you have to suspend belief here and there, but nevertheless Connie was so likeable and I found myself cheering her on most of the time, holding my breath a couple of times as well. I want to know what happens with Connie next!

4.5 stars :)

Well!! This was a completely different book to my usual read
Connie aged 66 decides one night whilst mashing potatoes she needs a break from her hubby, Roger, and her 3 grown up kids and her ordered life of cooking, cleaning and babysitting.......so a few days later off she goes in Kermit, her trusted green car and leaves the security of Sussex to ‘find herself’........oh and she doesn’t tell anyone shes going, she sends them all an email later on!!!!!!
I LOVED Connie, everything about her, her narrative about her past life, her present life that had brought her to this point of needing escape and the way she described her adventures throughout the book, she was hilarious, thought provoking, at times sad and insightful and I enjoyed every aspect of her and her travels
I would love to tell you what happens but that would spoil it but if I say at one point she gets unwittingly involved in an armed robbery thats just one small thing that happens in her journey!!
The book is ‘lol’ and touching in equal parts and the characters she meets are wide ranging, exotic and wonderful
The story is cleverly interwoven with emails from her husband and children as an aside to the story and a glimpse of their reactions is a good added part to the book
Sometimes descriptions of food/meals, accommodation and scenery can be, dare I say, boring in a book and fodder to eek out a chapter but I can honestly say each one of these was described so appealingly it was all welcome
One thing I didn’t expect was a real twist to the story at the end but tbh it was a better twist than a lot of psychological books I read
I loved this book and Connie and really hope there is a second book to carry on her adventures
10/10 5 stars

Did not finish, even though I made it to 46% and enjoyed it so far. But Conny bumping into people (at this stage it was someone else who literally bumped into her, or her car to be precise), was a bit too much.

Connie is my new heroine. At sixty six years of age, she shows us it's never too late to make changes in your life.

I doubt very much that Connie is on her own with how she feels. I know I for one have wished many a time that I could just up and leave for a few days in the hope that the rest of the family may one day realise just what I do for them. I'm sure they probably feel the same also. Getting married and falling into a routine can be nice but it can get boring and people can also start taking one another for granted.

Connie being sick of this, decides to put her foot down and go off in Kermit, her brilliantly nick named green car, to clear her head and have a good think about what she wants in life.

On Connie's travels she meets some truly wonderful people. Some old, some new. If more people were like her I think the world would be a much better place. It was a wonderful journey of which I felt I was very much on a road to self discovery also. The freedom of being able to go where you wanted was just so idyllic and my heart at times felt like it was going to burst with Connie's selfless actions.

The Runaway Wife is one of the loveliest books I have read this year. It will make you want to make changes in your own life as well as become a better person. A heartfelt and engaging read that I never wanted to end. Highly recommended.
