Another winner by Robert Bryndza! I absolutely love the Erika Foster series they just keep getting better and better so I was delighted to be given the opportunity to read this latest before its launch and I was not disappointed one iota. Fabulous book, with some engaging characters and some not so much engaging as a tad distasteful but all adding to the story as a whole in their own way. A must read novel for the police procedural enthusiasts amongst us.
Yet another thrilling read from Robert Bryndza. Now on the 6th book, Erika and her team are well-developed and we learn even more about some of them this time around.
The story is very tense and I was gripped throughout. There are some heart stopping moments, especially towards the end!
I was really please to see more focus on Moss this time around, between her home life and taking the lead in the investigation at one point. I hope we get to know some of the other characters like this in future books too as There are so many interesting people in the team.
A non-stop thriller I couldn’t put down!
What a great read, I was lucky to get a copy through NetGalley in exchange for a review, which I am happy to provide. I became a fan of Robert Bryndza after reading the first book in the series, and even though I thought I kept a vigilant eye out for the next installment I managed to miss some in the middle. So of course I was concerned if that would be a problem jumping back into the series with Book 6, but no worries there. It was full of suspense and drama making me read way past my bedtime and I thought that I was pretty sure who the murderer was, but it turned out I was wrong. Nicely played Robert. I will definitely catch up to the other books since Erika is a strong female character I can get behind. Very entertaining, can't wait to see what will happen next. Maybe a second chance at love?
An absolute corker of a book. I think this one shows Erika in her best light, both vulnerable and insightful. The dynamics with Moss and Petersen are still brilliant and her relationship with Isaac still makes me wonder...
Great storylines that ran at pace, couldn’t get enough of it and almost read it in one sitting!
Brilliant, another 5* Erika story! When’s the next one??!!!!
Just when I think this series can't get any better Robert Bryndza proves me wrong and once again ups his game.
There is a slight change of pace with this one that pulls Erika away from the team and we get to see other characters mature in her absence.
Very enjoyable latest addition to what is my current favourite series.
Thank you to Net Galley, Bookouture, and Robert Bryndza for a ARC copy of Deadly Secrets, with the great Erika Foster.
Firstly let's start of my review with a great thank you to Rob, Robert Bryndza for giving his time for his first Q & A's with my group " A Good Thriller" on goodreads, a great success with lots of interesting questions.
Secondly, I think number six is the best so far in the series.
To commit the perfect murder, you need the perfect cover.
On an icy morning, a mother wakes to find her daughter’s blood-soaked body frozen to the road. Who would carry out such a killing on the victim’s doorstep?
Straight off her last harrowing case, Detective Erika Foster is feeling fragile but determined to lead the investigation. As she sets to work, she finds reports of assaults in the same quiet South London suburb where the woman was killed. One chilling detail links them to the murder victim – they were all attacked by a figure in black wearing a gas mask.
Erika is on the hunt for a killer with a terrifying calling card. The case gets more complicated when she uncovers a tangled web of secrets surrounding the death of the beautiful young woman.
Yet just as Erika begins to piece the clues together, she is forced to confront painful memories of her past. Erika must dig deep, stay focused and find the killer. Only this time, one of her own is in terrible
So why is this the best so far......
A brutal, powerful and gripping story, but what made this book so good, the depth of the characters, seeing a different side to Erika, a great new side to Moss, and Peterson.
Strong story line evolving and strengthening the main characters, Moss role in latter part of this book, shocks that you do not see with a powerful and shocking ending.
What more can I say other than to read this book, so many good things in this book.
Five stars
Thanks to Netgalley for my copy.
Erika and her team are back in another captivating story from Bryndza.
A young beautiful burlesque dancer is found murdered on her doorstep by her mother on Christmas morning. Erika muscles her way in to the investigation as she is passing on route to lunch with her boss.
This book sees so much emotional development in Erika and I personally loved this. We all have suffered along with her on her rollercoaster route through the six books and I feel there is a degree of healing beginning. Hopefully this will continue in the next instalment and I can't wait.
This is by far the best book I have read in a long time. The Erika Foster series is one of my favourite series (I only have one other). And this installment was excellent. I liked that Erika seemed more human in this book. I hope that there are plenty more to come.
Book 6 in the Erika Foster series and it's a cracker. A very intriguing plot, excellent character development and keeps you guessing right to the last chapter. I never saw that ending! Robert Bryndza is one of the best thriller writers today. I recommend reading all his books in order. You won't be disappointed. Thanks to Net Galley for my copy. I reviewed on Amazon, Goodreads and Facebook.
This is the sixth book in this series and it is going strong. I loved every page of this book, it is captivating
I was looking forward to reading the next Erika foster novel by Robert Bryndza. From the very start of this book you are faced with a very creeping and growing sense of foreboding.hanging around our first victim that it is less a sense of wondering if and more a case of wondering just how and where. Now both of those questions are answered pretty quickly and in a violent way.
The case centres around the brutal murder of a burlesque performer Melissa who is dispatched just as she arrives at her own home. and is about to open her front door. a man wearing what appears to be a gas mask looms up, her demise is quick but horribly painful. As Erika finds herself drawn to the investigation as a way to avoid Christmas dinner with her boss and his family. The scene is set for a very interesting case and sees the reader brought back to familiar territory and a team that you have got to know over the course of the series. Alongside the main murder case are some other unsolved crimes which are occurring that may or may not have bearing on Erika's case, and all of it combines to put one of the team in grave danger.
The beauty of these books is the feeling of being back in the familiar and yet all so fresh. This is a very unique case with no end of creepy suspects and characters who you will have half an eye on as being the perpetrator. You may have your suspicions but Robert Bryndza manipulates your understanding of what is happening and keeps you guessing from start to finish..
I like the way in which the author has developed the team over the series. Readers should be aware of Erika's difficult past and there is a certain sense of movement in terms of her acceptance of the past in this book. She is drawn back to her old home of Manchester after her father in law falls ill and it effects her on a personal level, one which I will be interested to see how it effects her character in future stories. Whichever way you take it, you see more of Erika's vulnerable side in this book and I wasn't sure I liked that.. She is still kick ass and determined and bloody focused, but she is perhaps also more human than she has been in a long time.. I had to ask myself. What if the future for Erika ? I am sure Robert Bryndza will be keeping us informed in his next novel and I for one look forward to reading it.
This is another enjoyable instalment in the Detective Erika Foster series.
This time Erika is investigating the murder of young burlesque dancer Marissa late on Christmas Eve as she was making her way home after work.
En route to Christmas lunch at Commander Paul Marsh’s house, Erika comes across the crime scene- Marissa was murdered on her own doorstep- and decides to get involved with the investigation.
As the plot progresses it becomes clear that there are a number of people who would like to see Marissa dead and Erika’s team have to work out who the murderer is using careful police work.
In the middle of the investigation Erika is called away on a family emergency and Moss is put in charge, a job she finds quite difficult with such a complex case.
I liked the character development of both Erika, as she comes to terms with her life as a widow after being on her own for 4 years and also Moss as she tries to juggle work with her family responsibilities. This appears to be a theme in the book as Petersen also discovers that he has family commitments. Erika, Moss and Petersen have to try and balance family with their all encompassing lives as police detectives.
The plot is fast moving and I raced through the book very quickly. There were a couple of clues as to the identity of the killer and at one point I had it all figured out... but I was wrong!
A great return for Erika Foster and her team - for me it was like catching up with old friends!
If you’ve read the earlier books by Robert Bryndza you should definitely read this one and if you haven’t you’ve got a real treat in store.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my arc in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first book of the series Ihave read and I loved it,edge of the seat reading and I will definitely be reading the previous 5 and any other books to come in the series!!
I have followed Robert Bryndza since the first Erika Foster book which I enjoyed but the last two books have really stepped up a notch & they just get better & better.
It is Christmas. Marissa is coming home from her job as a burlesque dancer. Just as she is about to put her key in the door she is violently attacked leaving her dead from many stab wounds. Erica is supposed to be going to friends for Christmas dinner but when she passes the scene, now festooned with police tape she stops to investigate. One of her team is there & explains what has happened.
What does Marissa's death have to do with the mysterious person in a gas mask that has been terrifying locals? Is is connected to the rich lady she works with? Marissa's life was far from dull & there seem to have been quite a few people who didn't like her- but was that enough to kill her?
As always the story is multi-layered and keeps the reader guessing. When Erika has to go North to take care of her Father in law, Moss becomes Officer in Charge- a role she is very uncomfortable with. As Erika puzzles over the case from afar, Moss tries to do what she imagines Erika would do- forgetting that is often a dangerous path.
I was totally unprepared for the revelation of 'whodunnit' Once again Robert Bryndza has produced an excellent story. I can't wait for the next one.
Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this terrific book.
Deadly Secrets is the sixth book in the Detective Erika Foster series but can be read as a stand-alone. Another gripping read. It pulls you in from the beginning and surprises you with a twist you didn't see coming. Cleverly written with a great plot. Love all the characters especially Erika. I highly recommend this whole female-lead detective series.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for supplying me a copy of Robert Bryndza's "Deadly Secrets" in exchange of an honest review.
Robert Bryndza does it again with this sixth installment of the Detective Erika Foster Series called Deadly Secrets. This book could easily be read as a standalone. I love when a book grabs me right from the start and Deadly Secrets did not disappoint. The story takes place in London starting on Christmas Eve with a murder of a young girl.
I loved the main character Detective Chief Inspector Erika Foster with her tragic and troubled backstories making her easy for me to relate to. I especially loved the sweet and touching interaction between Erika and her father-in-law as they both struggle with the loss of Mark. The author’s writing just brings all of the characters to life. I also loved the investigation team and the return of Detective Peterson was interesting.
The author meticulously unravels the threads of this perplexing case little by little. As the ending drew closer it was time for me to go to bed but there was no way I was putting the book down. I was trying to figure out what was going to happen and once again…I failed!! Great ending to a wonderfully written novel…one of the best I have read in a while. If you are a fan of serial killer thrillers then you don’t want to miss this one!!
Thank you Robert Bryndza, Bookouture, and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book to read.
Huge fan of Roberts and I jumped at the chance to review this book.
Absolutely gripped from start to end! Highly recommended
Wow! One of the best yet me thinks. This series is not to be missed. Another strong female lead and a life filled with tragedy. Twists and turns aplenty. Nice to see a little more of the backstory of Erika’s life and maybe some hope for her future. More please!
Thx to Netgalley, Bookoutre, and Robert Bryndza for this ARC. This is one of my favorite male authors who can write a strong protagonist female detective. Erica is always interesting, non apologetic, But in this book, she has found her compassionate side. In every crime Erica is involved in, there are twists and turns, but this author is never repetitious. He can’t write his series fast enough for me !
Mr Bryndza has done it again with another gripping episode in the Erika Foster series!
Based at Lewisham Police Station, DCI Foster has had her fair share of tragedy in her life and copes by throwing herself into her work. She can be a bit of a loose canon but is seriously good at what she does and highly respected by her peers. In this latest novel in the series she faces a particularly sick criminal in the shape of T. T attacks his victims whilst wearing a gas mask and is a highly dangerous and twisted character. His latest victim is a burlesque dancer who seems to have rubbed more than one person up the wrong way in her time and it’s up to Erika and her team to find him and bring him down.
This story is a fast paced page turner with the author’s usual witty banter interlaced throughout. Erika and her team are a great group of characters and I would recommend reading the series in order as you learn a little more about each of them in each one. In this story we see Erika finally face up to the tragic loss of her husband back in Manchester and we see a more vulnerable, gentle side to her. She’s a woman of many layers so it’s great to see this contrast. Her interaction with her father in law Edward is particularly sweet (sweet is not a word I ever thought I’d use to describe Erika)!
In typical Robert Bryndza style this story keeps you hungry throughout and is full of twists and turns. The ending is somewhat unbelievable but do you know what - I don’t care as it’s still bloody brilliant! This series is exciting, thrilling and yeah, a bit gruesome at times but it’s effortless and fun to read and this latest book does not disappoint. All I’m thinking is... when is the next one? Gimme gimme gimme!!
Thank so much to #NatGalley for an advance copy of #DeadlySecrets in return for an honest review
