Having enjoyed reading The Girl Before I just had to try another book by this author, and feel Believe Me was just as good. I loved it. A great read with some twists and turns that kept me hooked.

I absolutely loved the Girl Before and this lived up to my expectations! It kept me guessing all the way through and i did not know who to trust and who to believe. There were so many twists and turns it was almost hard to keep up but it was fantastic. You were reading it and thinking it was one thing only to read on further and it was something else entirely! Thank you to Quercus, Netgalley and the author for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Believe Me is dark and intriguing, the plot leaves you guessing and although the middle gets a little lost & away from the real story this was a perfect holiday read. The style of the book means it is a very easy read.
This was my first JP Delaney novel, I will definitely read The Girl Before and look out for the next one.

Claire arrives in New York but as she doesn't have a green card she finds it difficult to get work. As an actress she excels at playing parts and soon finds work with a private investigator where she plays the part of a honey trap for unfaithful husbands. Then she finds herself attracted to one such husband, Patrick, and begins an affair with him. Then his wife is found murdered. Did he do it? The police ask Claire to help them by continuing her affair with Patrick to see if she can trick him into a confession. This is a dangerous scenario if he really is the killer. There are lots of twists and turns so that the reader is unsure if Claire is entirely truthful. Who is telling the truth?
I enjoyed this book much more than 'The Girl Before'. Definitely a five star psychological thriller.

How deeply can an actor play a role? The story which follows Claire, a talented and budding actress in America, change from being an off the books husband baiter working for a law firm to a police undercover agent. However, is she the agent of the police or a person of interest? Who do we think she is in trying to discover the real identity of a serial killer? As readers we are lead one way then the other. The conclusion of the book left me thinking it stretched reality to breaking point, especially the stunning Frank leading the cavalry over the horizon upon hearing a 'safe' word. How? Radio? They don't work too well underground and getting a Swat team in place in deathly quiet catacombs had me smiling. But an entertaining read nevertheless.

I’m afraid I couldn’t get on with the style of this book. The main character, Claire, wants to be an actress but instead she takes a job with a firm of lawyers and pretends to want to get men into bed to help push through their divorce. However, the conversations were written in a script style which I just found off putting and couldn’t get much further than the first chapter

Gosh I LOVED this.
I wasn't too sure as I didn't really connect with The Girl Before but it was great, a much better novel for me.
I had no idea where the book was headed and so just let myself go along with Claire. She wasn't always likeable but she was honest (or so I thought) and so I was rooting for her and interested in her story. And yes I wanted to know who killed Stella!

The 'murderer' reveal felt a little bit of a let down UNTIL I discovered I'd actually been had. I didn't see the twist coming at all so it was a brilliantly satisfying ending and the explanation for why I had been kept in the dark completely realistic and in keeping with Claire's character and reasoning. It's not often I am surprised by an authentic, realistic twist that absolutely plays by the rules - well done!

The Baudelaire poetry device was a good one and well used and the slipping into a script sometimes worked well too.
Great racy, pacy book!

Although it took me quite long to read this one, I really enjoyed it and I’m definitely glad that I chose this one as my first holiday read. At first I really struggled with the way that conversations were written as I wasn’t sure that I liked the script style, however when I became engrossed and hooked by what was happening it didn’t annoy me anymore. I was really shocked by the ending and so many moments really surprised me. I found it easy to like the characters and actually really enjoyed the link to poetry as it added something to this story that I hadn’t seen before. I loved JP Delaney’s first book, The Girl Before, so I’m so glad that I enjoyed this one and can’t wait to read the next book from this author. When reading a lot of books of the same genre things can start getting a bit repetitive so it’s always refreshing to read books with a twist.

A riveting, enthralling read. Once I started this took it took over my life and I struggled when I had to out it down. This is the first JP Delaney book I have read and will definetly be reading more. A great phychological thriller that twisted and turned right to the end. I would highly recommend this book it really was captivating.

This is the first book I have read by JP Delaney and it is a highly entertaining thriller, which kept me turning the pages. Claire is in New York without a green card. She is a drama student who is looking for work.

She takes a job for a firm of lawyers, posing as an easy pick-up in hotel bars to entrap husbands. Although she can set a trap for these wayward men can she set a trap for a killer?

Claire is an actress on many levels and the intrigue and twists and turns kept me interested.

Thanks to NetGalley, Quercus Books and JP Delaney for my ARC in return for my honest review.

Good read. Recommended.

This is a psychological thriller by author Tony Strong who writes under the pseudonym JP Delaney and Anthony Capella. Tony Strong also wrote the successful novel 'The Girl Before', which I have previously read so I was well aware of the quality of the author.
Claire Wright is a British drama student, in New York without a green card and takes the only job she can get. The job is working for a firm of divorce lawyers, posing as an easy pick-up in hotel bars to entrap straying husbands. Her life suddenly gets a lot more exciting when one of her targets becomes the subject of a murder investigation and the police ask Claire to use her acting skills to help lure their suspect into a confession. Claire has reservations about their request and doubts whether the husband Patrick Fogler really is a killer. Like most good novels there are twists and turns and perhaps everything is not quite what it seems, so there are plenty of surprises.
I would like to thank Net Galley and Quercus for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

An original perspective on the concept of 'the honey trap' and entrapment that raises numerous ethical issues but produces a quirky, dark thriller with addictive qualities. There is a mix of writing styles, including poetry, scripts and interviews.

Claire is a British drama student living in New York, her opportunities for making ends meet are scarce, so she uses her acting talents and earns 'cash in hand' money from a firm of divorce lawyers, acting as a 'pick up' in hotel bars to trap straying husbands.

Claire is the unreliable protagonist, at her happiest playing other people and so it's difficult to establish who she truly is. When someone dies her role escalates, she is co-opted to trap the suspected killer. The thriller's intensity increases and fantasy and reality merge with dangerous results.

The only thing predictable about this thriller is its unpredictability. If you accept, nothing is as it seems or what you expect and enjoy the show its an absorbing thriller.

I received a copy of this book from Quercus Books via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Sorry, I really did not enjoy this book. It began well, holding my attention, then quickly became very American, boring and not by taste at all.

Thanks for allowing me to read and review anyway.

Claire is about to take on the hardest role of her life. As an aspiring English actress at a New York drama school can Claire pull of her toughest role yet? Running from a past she hasn’t yet come to terms with her self, but praised at every turn by her drama teacher Claire ends up in the middle of a murder investigation.

I found the book intriguing to read and kept wanting to turn the pages.

Thankyou to NetGalley, Quercus Books and J P Delaney for the opportunity to read an advanced readers copy of Believe Me.
I thought the storyline was good. The premise of the story is certainly different to other thrillers I have read in the past. I did find the book a bit slow to start but the pace does pick up the more you delve into the story.

Wow this is an absolute cracker of a book, chilling with a hint of romance (or is it) I absolutely loved this story.

One of my favourites this year.

Enjoyed the story of the book which tells the tale of Clare, a wanna-be actress with no green card in the US who resorts to working for a firm of lawyers to entrap cheating husbands and provide evidence to their wives.
After chatting to one particular target one evening, his wife is found brutally murdered and her husband is the prime target. Clare is asked to work for police to gain his trust and see if she can get a confession. The story has lots of twists and turns and you never quite know if it's what it seems. Good twist at the end but does end up quite far fetched.
