Jonathan and Nicole are clearly passionate about what they do, and it shines through in their book.
Beautiful pictures and delightful recipes with many background stories. A great addition to all kitchen libraries.

Everybody, it seems, loves apple cider, especially in the fall, and just in time to prepare lots of dishes made with apple cider, authors Jonathan Carr, Nicole Blum and Andrea Blum have released an excellent cookbook , Ciderhouse Cookbook: 127 Recipes That Celebrate the Sweet, Tart, Tangy Flavors of Apple Cider. Who knew how many great dishes - appetizers, mains, salads, and desserts – can be made with this easily available product?

Not only does this cookbook give a good background on the preparation of good apple cider, but it has almost everything you want to know about it. There are foundation recipes such as Apple Cider Syrup which has multiple uses. It was very easy to make and it has been used so far in Candied Nuts (sweet and spicy) and Ciderhouse Barbecue Sauce (easy and good on everything grilled). The Apple Pommeau Cake was a hit; it was moist and flavorful and not too sweet. Everything tried so far from this cookbook has turned out picture perfect. Still in the queue are Roasted Pork Tenderloin with Rosemary, Garlic, Cider Syrup & Dates, Dutch Baby, and Canelés de Pomme. Other chapters feature mouthwatering side dishes and drinks.

The book is well organized, full of interesting and useful information, and has beautiful photographs. Anyone who loves apples, or products made from them (apple cider vinegar, apple syrup, apple molasses, etc.) will want to have this excellent cookbook in their collection.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

I never knew that there was so much that can be done with cider! Especially in fall, it seems appropriate to use cider in these creative recipes!

Ciderhouse Cookbook by Jonathan Carr and Nicole Blum is a recipe book that really took me by surprise. There is quite a bit of history and backstory about the authors and their approach for a sustainable orchard. Admittedly, I did find this aspect to be a little to lengthy, but it is nice to understand the authors behind the recipes. Most of these recipes will require some special cider ingredients that you can either make yourself or purchase. If you are looking for traditional recipes on how to make things with apple cider, this book may be a bit more than expected.

The introduction to Ciderhouse Cookbook is one that is beautifully written and contains some gorgeous images as well. I learned quite a bit about the process to create a wonderful apple cider. Once the recipes become the focal point of the book, you will discover that the recipes will require you to create your own cider, cider vinegar, and cider syrup ahead of time. The authors also sell these products on Amazon, so if you are like me and aren’t interested in extra steps in your cooking, this might be an option.

I was hoping that this recipe collection had some more recipes that involved straight up apple cider. As such, I didn’t have the opportunity to create the yummy looking dishes in the book. I did enjoy reading about all of the interesting meals that are detailed in the recipes book. I was also inspired to try making my own shrub and really enjoyed the June Shrub. It is definitely a cookbook to check out for some interesting fall recipes.

When you think of food that you'd buy in a ciderhouse, you don't automatically think "Oven Polenta with Roasted Asparagus and Poached Eggs"- but this cookbook features a lot of very fancy, hipster-sounding recipes that sound like something I'd probably never be able to make, but sound delicious anyway.

There are also some awesome tips on how to make cider. Mmm. Cider.

Pickled Cider Apples, who knew that was a thing. Fall,is my favorite season and cider is my favorite drink but I never thought of using it in food preparation. This is my new companion, anytime of the year!

A Rare inside view to the Cider House! I found this book not only delicious but also educational! Lots of unique recipes to make with cider! I can't wait to make my own cider syrup! Truly a treasure in the kitchen, this is a must-have for the apple lover!

I really enjoyed this book. It begins with a brief, yet interesting explanation of collecting and pressing apples, followed by clear instructions for making sweet and hard cider, then how to make cider syrups, molasses, vinegars, shrubs etc. Thereafter a range of recipes using these ingredients. Who knew you could do so much with the simple juice of an apple!

I am unlikely to make my own cider (having access to great organic cider from a local producer) but I still liked learning about it, including the Top Ten recommendations for making natural hard cider.

The range of recipes was excellent; pantry basics, salad and soups, mains, desserts to name a few of the chapters. I made the cider syrup (never had it before and it reminded me of a delicious Balsamic and honey mix!) and used it to make the Farmer’s Cheese with Cider Syrup, which I served alongside the Candied Nuts. A great success! Given this result, I am enthusiastic to try a number more recipes that I have bookmarked.

Some might complain that there are not photos for every recipe, but for me that was not an issue. The recipes speak for themselves! One thing to note for European readers is that the resources are all for USA or Canadian suppliers.

Have you ever wondered how many things you can make from apples? Well, if you have... this book is the book for you. With an outstanding number of recipes all based around apples and cider, Ciderhouse Cookbook was quite a unique read for me. I enjoyed getting to know more about a fruit that I love. A beautiful book that I can see many enjoying.

Ciderhouse Cookbook by Jonathan Carr, Nicole Blum and Andrea Blum

This cookbook is GORGEOUS! I received a free digital advanced copy from Storey Publishing and NetGalley but I can’t wait to purchase the physical copy.

This book has very basic cider making recipes followed by recipes for every meal using apple cider in some form.

This book has gotten me so excited for autumn and apple season! I’m hoping to make some of these with store bought ingredients since I don’t live in an area where Apple picking is available. I also like that they list other resources if you want to get serious or learn more about cider making.

I've read some niche cookbooks over the years but this is one of the most creative and useful ones I've encountered. Everything about this book, from the stories to recipes to pictures, is superb. I'll never look at apple cider vinegar the same again.

Reading through Ciderhouse Cookbook is like stepping into the kitchen and sitting down around the table of the apple farmers that wrote the book. Starting with simple cider syrups and vinegars, the cookbook walks through a full menu of recipes that draw on apples and ciders to add that extra spark to the plate, bowl or glass. As I read through this cookbook, I was continually reading out titles and descriptions to my Mom & making a list of recipes to try - not only as apple season returns but also throughout the summer and the farmers market bounty.

Free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Book is available July 24th.

All I can say is that is an amazing book. To share so many cider making tips and then all the dozens upon dozens of recipes that use cider or cider products within the recipe, Jonathon, Nicole and Andrea are the home cook/maker’s dream.
I think my favourite is the grilled cheese and pickled cider apples. The picture looks amazing and is one that I will definitely try once I have the cider apples down pat.
Highly recommend this book to anyone who is a keen cider drinker.
