Well this is a bit different from my normal read! Excellent book especially if you are into books with very adult themes. I loved the main character and the black humour throughout the book is superb. The ending was very good but not quite in the 'wow' 5 star category. Nevertheless a very enjoyable read
Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review...
What can I say? Esposito does it again. Mad had me hooked as it was a fast paced book with barely a pause between big moments before you were tumbling into the next catastrophy - or even dead body. Mad is similar in style but it feels more fast-paced. Set mainly in Italy, it follows Alvie as she tries to find Nino - the love of her life who also stole all her money. The book is basically just one long, messed up date! To me Alvie feels like a really annoying character at times, no awareness of others, but at the same time you can't help but get drawn in. Little moments of intelligence shine through and it was good to get some more of her back story throughout the current narration as well. This is the second book in the trilogy and whilst it could stand alone it's best to read it 'Mad' first!
The only thing that bugged me about the style of the book was the use of Emoticons. Instead of writing 'love' often Esposito would put a red heart in... why? I read on a Kindle but I don't want to feel like I'm reading text messages!
Found it hard to get into. Seemed quite childish in the way it was written. Sorry. Not a book for me.
I was interested to see where the story would go after reading MAD last year. An unlikeable protagonist is a really delicate balancing act for an author; you have to like them enough to root for them - or against them - but whichever it is, for a reader to want to read on, you have to CARE about them. Alvina is a really difficult character to care for. The plot is SO outlandish, it descends at points beyond farce, into being... plain silly. The sex scenes are.... ridiculous. But saying all that, I read the whole thing in one night and the following day, so two stars for readability.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book. It was brilliant well written funny story. Alvie is so funny. Great storyline and great characters. The funniest book I’ve read on a long time. Recommended this one to friends.
I hate to say I didn’t enjoy a book but this was one of them. It didn’t engage me, it felt muddled and childishly written and I couldn’t care about any of the characters unfortunately.
Great book, I haven't actually read the first in the series but I did enjoy this one, so I will probably go back and download the first. Loved the story, the characters and can't wait for the for next one.
Thank you Netgalley for letting me read an ARC.
I started this with high hopes but they were soon dashed. I thought the mother of the twins reaction to the death of her daughter was unrealistic, going so far as to e-mail the other twin as she can’t get hold of her and during the Email talks about colonics and waxing. Not the best
I found this a very strange book. Profane language, graphic sex scenes a horrible protagonist and an unbelievable plot made this an uncomfortable read.
My thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
What an ending, I did not see that coming! Great book, loved the characters and the plot twists. I felt the beginning was a little slow for me to get into it but once I did I couldn’t put it down.
Really struggled to get into this book, didn’t like the way in which it was written, and after only reading 5% decided I had had enough.
I’m sorry I really wanted to like this book based on the description but I couldn’t read more than 3% due to the already unbelievable storyline and the way that it was written. I found it too blunt and too crude for my preferred style of writing/reading
Bad is book 2 in the Mad, Bad, and Dangerous to Know Trilogy.
It starts off right where book 1 left us, these books are pretty fast paced but have so much going on it is a great follow on book from book 1 and I am really enjoying this crazy ride and can’t wait for the next book. If you thought Alvie
Was mad in the first book you haven’t seen anything yet I am loving her character even in all the drama she has a great sense of humor and I find myself laughing so much.
Not for me I’m afraid! I love a Jackie Collins type bonkbuster, but Alvinas story was just too mad. I didn’t enjoy, just too madcap.
Sorry but I couldn't engage with this book so ended up giving up on it. As it is a second book in a trilogy I will try again once I have read the first one Mad.
Wow! I was out of breath by the time I finished Bad - it was a country spanning rollercoaster romp of violence, glamour and of course, sex! I really enjoyed Mad and after its cliffhanger ending, couldn't wait to find out what happened to Alvie after her BF stole her millions and ditched her in the Ritz hotel with no clue as to his whereabouts. We catch up with Alvie as she follows her man to Rome for a crazy game of cat and mouse - with some entertaining sex on the side with a dodgy policeman and a hot female assassin. I love Chloe Esposito's books for their pure escapism and as ever I couldn't put this one down. - a great holiday read :)
I know there's one more book to come in the series and I guess I'd like to see Alvie's character develop a little fuirther on from what we know now - some hidden revelations from her past perhaps or some secrets about her sister to give some more twists. I'd like to know more about them both.:)
Many thanks to NetGalley and Penguin for the opportunity to read and review Bad.
Great follow up to Mad where we see Alvie create even more mayhem for herself. The book stands in its own right as the beginning briefly explains to the reader what happened in the first book of this trilogy.
Thre are some wonderful (if slightly unbelievable) scenes in Bad and it's a great escapist romp with many LOL moments. A word of warning for sensitive readers: sweary words abound and there is a lot, a lot of explicit sex!
A great holiday read especially while salivating over cool Italian men. Chloe Esposito's fans will not be disappointed. Many thanks to NetGalley and Penguin for the opportunity to read and review Bad.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an advanced copy.
Absolutely loved the 2nd part of the trilogy. It left off right where book 1 ended which was great but also gave a brief update on where we were in the story which was such a good idea as you were able to get straight into the story again.
If you thought Alvie was mad in the first book this one takes it to a whole other level. Can’t wait for the final book in the trilogy to be released.
Very different type of book as it’s so extreme and far fetched but so easy to read as it’s fast paced throughout.
I loved “Mad” the first novel in this trilogy – where we were introduced to Alvie Knightly, a girl on a mission to steal her sister’s life. Seemingly she should be careful what she wished for but ultimately Alvie has a dangerously dark core which came to life in hilarious detail – Mad was possibly the most appropriately titled novel ever..
Now Alvie is back, embracing her inner killer and on the hunt for lover Nino, who has left her behind and issued a challenge. Well Alvie is more than up to that and sets off to track Nino down, leaving a trail of destruction in her wake…but will she find her happily ever after?
I love Alvie as a character – she’s funny, often inept, but wickedly engaging, can extract herself from any situation and basically just rolls over anyone in her way leaving them either dead or distraught. The wonderfully sexy Nino keeps her on her toes and “Mad” is basically just one long twisted courtship. The events get ever more insane but ever more entertaining and this is the most fun you’ll have with a book this Summer I reckon. It is far fetched yet utterly believable, the characters pop, the locations are vividly brought to life as both Nino and Alvie cut a swathe through Rome in a cat and mouse chase where honestly either one could be cat or mouse…
You can read this without reading “Mad” as Alvie helpfully gives us a rather ranty “previously on” early in the book but I really would start at the beginning so you can see her develop, often her randomly witty inner dialogue will have you laughing out loud, plus the forming of her relationship with assassin Nino, how they end up in this situation is an incredibly lively reading time. You have time to catch up with Alvie’s adventures so far.
I loved it. Wildly entertaining. sexy as hell, possibly the darkest ending that will still make you laugh I’ve ever seen, I can’t help but highly recommend it. Bring on “Dangerous to Know” – I simply can’t wait.
Like nothing else I have read! If you thought Alvina had done it all in mad....think again! Bad takes it to the next level, Alvina is everything you should hate in a character, but I loved it!
