This is a book combining 10 differently written, but sweet and compassionate short stories. What a great read. Recommended.

The tapestry of events in Jane Delury’s collection are anchored by the Leger country estate. Witness to a cavalcade of characters and episodes, it acts as a backdrop for ten confident, dynamic stories. Walls have ears- and in ‘The Balcony,’ they have some beautifully observed stories to tell. A linear narrative might have given the book more cohesion, but the calibre of the storytelling is the star of the show.

Excellent story line which was gripping from start to finish. Great characters. I would highly recommend this book.

Set in a village in France, The Balcony tells the stories of different inhabitants of a house spanning through time. I was really looking forward to reading this book, but must admit, i struggled. I had to go back and read certain parts again as i got confused in parts.
Thank you to the author, netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read.

Interesting and increasingly intriguing book. It starts almost as a set of short stories all written around a house set in France. The individual stories are all fascinating, covering different periods between the early 1900s and the modern day. Initially there doesn’t appear to be any common factor other than the house in which they’re set, until you realise that some of the different characters are related to each other over generations. And then you realise that you are given clues to previous stories, by things that you read subsequently. Each individual story is fascinating, covering different historic periods including the occupation during WW2, the 1900s, the post war period etc. It is exactly as if, if a house could talk, this is the story it would tell. Really different, I enjoyed it more, the more I read.

I started this book thinking the description was interesting but unfortunately I struggled with it.
The fact that the author interspersed it with French phrases was annoying. I am sorry but I couldn't finish it
