'Rare Earth (Bob Morane #1)' by Aurelian Ducoudray and Luc Brunschwig with illustrations by Dimitri Armand is a reboot of a series of adventure books in French. More than 200 novels have been written since his debut.

This time around, adventurer Bob Morane, is in the modern world. When we meet him, he is on a peace-keeping mission in Nigeria trying to keep the peace between Muslims and Christians. When he decides to intervene in a scene of horror, he winds up in trouble, but the people he helped are indebted to him. These new friends have some interesting tech to introduce to the world, but is everything as good as it seems?

The art isn't bad, but the story just kind of plods along. I had a hard time keeping my interest in this over the 60 pages of this story.

Bob Morane is an interesting enough read. It's an interesting story but I don't think it made a very good comic adaptation. The artwork is nice though.

Uninteresting thriller; as an apology for daring to get involved in African politics, France ends up brainwashing the entirely of Nigeria with special cybernetic headsets in the name of educational aid. Lots of people kill people, lots more duff each other up. Adapted from some novels I've never heard of, it appears to leave key info out at vital times. Not really a success.

This book has me intrigued from the first page, and kept my interest throughout the whole volume. The story line was well thought out, and the illustrations were stunning. The colors used for the illustrations were perfectly fitting for the subject, and I thought it came together nicely with the story itself. I am looking forward to seeing more volumes in this series, as I feel this character, and this story can continue to progress into something quite amazing. I know quite a few people who will love this graphic novel, so I will definitely be recommending it.

This is volume one of an adventure story set in Nigeria. It all starts when Bob Morane (a french soldier) is part of a UN peacekeeping force in Nigeria. He intervenes in a vicious attack upon a presidential candidate, saving the lives of him and his family. Unfortunately his intervention is against orders and he is tried at a court marshall. Morane manages to avoid a jail sentence because the man he saved becomes president of Nigeria and Morane in invited to join his staff as an advisor.

Nigeria and France decide to have close co-operation. France will supply Nigeria with advanced educational technology and Nigeria will supply France with rare ore which can be used to develop other technologies. Not everyone likes this exchange. Terrorists in Nigeria believe the educational technology will prevent people from learning their history and they react with bombs, assasinations etc

Morane is in the middle of this war but there is more to this than meets the eye, because he discovers that Nigeria is not the underdeveloped nation that the world knows, but deep in a remote area is a town which is far more advanced than anywhere in the world.

I thought the art was good but the story didn't interest me. It is a mixture of terrorists, imperialism and Wakanda. Of course this might just be the first episode in a brilliant new series but just not one for me.
