It was a great story with a great romance and a little bit of adventure to keep your interest!Amelia Gardiner is an intelligent woman on a mission to prove the artifact her grandfather found is not a fake. Penn Bowen, who seeks out these treasures, is out to prove the artifact is a fake. Both meet under some circumstances and agree to work together. It was entertaining seeing these two together!Penn and Amelia connection throughout the book was so beautifully written and also comical to read.
When i requested this ARC, i promised that I would give a fair and honest review. Darcy Burke is one of my "go to" authors. I try to read anything she writes but I must say that I felt this story was a bit flat. It was lacking the excitement that are usually present in her stories. It was still an ok read, I guess I just expected more.
Good read by Darcy Burke. I enjoyed the romance between Penn and Amelia. They had good chemistry. The mystery of where the artifacts were and if they were real was an interesting element in the story. The villain of the read was pretty easy to predict and was a route I hoped the author would avoid. That being said, I enjoyed this read.
such a great and thrilling read. great paced book. Amelia and Penn are such great characters that clash and give as well as they take.
This story was a fast paced adventure that has the hero, Penn Bowen, searching for an original artifact, the Heart of Llanllwch, when he finds the one in Oxford's museum is a fake. Amelia Gardiner is the granddaughter of the man who found the treasure and she is determined to prove Penn wrong and defend her family. On the dying wish from her grandfather, he tells Amelia where to find a dagger that will give direction in finding the real Heart. As the search begins, Amelia tracks clues to a cave but find finds men already there who end up making away with the dagger she is seeking! This is were the chase begins as Amelia and Penn end up working together to try to stay ahead of all the dangerous people who have gotten involved. In true Darcy Burke style, the characters were well written and there were a lot of surprises, twists and turns with humor thrown into the mix. With a great cast of secondary characters, some from other books in this series, I can only look forward to the next story. This book can be read as a standalone, but trust me, you will want to read them all!!
I really enjoyed Penn and Amelia's story!!
The sparks were there between the two from the very beginning even though neither trusted the other. As the two worked together, it became very clear that there was a lot more going on than just physical attraction. When danger seems to find them at every turn, they realize just how important the other one is to them. Can they solve the mystery of the relic and find their HEA?
This was a great addition to the Legendary Rogues series and I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out!
This was an entertaining read. I do enjoy a mystery that has to be solved and this book certainly had a few! Penn Bowen enjoys searching for antiquities to be displayed in the museum, not just for his own pleasure unlike some. He encounters Amelia Forrest, whilst searching for a treasure. Amelia’s late grandfather was also involved with finding antiquities and she is searching for one according to his last instructions. They have quite a feisty meeting but eventually search together. There follows a deepening of their feelings for each but there are various stumbling blocks in their way. There are various other characters involved, including Egg and Gideon, that add to the story. I liked that it was partially set in Wales, it makes a change from Scotland, London or Bath. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Romance and adventure is a beautiful concoction. Ms Burke's nod to the Arthurian legend inspires delight. Her characters are romantic, passionate and engaging.
Antiquarian, adventurer, carefree, gorgeous Penn Bowen is passionate about Britain and its history.
Amelia Gardiner Forrester, beautiful and brave, honours her antiquarian grandfather's memory by searching for the dagger. Amelia and Penn forged a reluctant partnership, albeit unwillingly, mutually, to seek for the true heart and the real dagger. But there are other nasty, interested parties looking for the artefacts too. The treasure hunt is on. Adventure commences and along with it, peril.
The romance element is slow burn but Penn and Amelia were aflame! The adventure they embarked on was exciting. The twist in a twist in the end was exhilarating!
Darcy Burke has written her own fantastic legendary tale.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an eGalley copy. All opinions are honest, unbiased, and all mine.
I’ve never been disappointed by A Darcy Burke book. Her tales are always exciting and enjoyable!!
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley to read in exchange for a fair review. Lord of Fortune is the third book in Darcy Burke’s Legendary Rogues series. It can be read as a stand alone but Darcy Burke’s historical novels are always enjoyable to read so I recommend reading them all. Lord of Fortune is an adventure tale with lots of twists and turns that will keep you reading when you really should be doing other things. Penn Bowen is a scholar and adventurer, a seeker of lost treasures and he is on the track of an ancient dagger which he discovers only to have someone try to steal it from him. Amelia Forrest’s grandfather hid the the dagger so she has been searching for it as well, and she stumbles upon Penn just as he retrieves the dagger from its hiding place and attempts to take it from him at gunpoint, but then a third group arrives and these villains make off with the dagger. Amelia and Penn eventually decide to work together to retrieve the dagger and solve the mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed their adventures and am waiting impatiently to dive into the next book in this series. Quite Steamy, Publishing Date April 24, 2018 #LordOfFortune #NetGalley
I loved Penn and Amelia. Great story. It was full of adventure. I am looking forward to Gideon’s story now
This wasn't a bad book at all; it just didn't grab me. I think the main problem was that there are two books that take place before this one. People and adventures which previously happened are mentioned which rather confused me and made me feel like I was missing too much. I did love the way the book started...like a scene from Indiana Jones. The characters were interesting, but the only one who really captured my attention was Gideon, who was not a part of the starring couple. I highly recommend reading the first two books before delving into this one. I would have enjoyed this one a lot more if I had.
4 and a bit stars
This was a fun romance, two well suited characters and a great story. There was a real dose of adventure and just a hint of a thriller. The start really set the scene for a crackling romance with adventure and a few twists.
I’m a complete devotee of Ms Burke’s Untouchables series, this isn’t quite as good but it’s a brilliant romance with a good helping of adventure in it.
‘Lord of Fortune’ is the 3rd book in the series Legendary Rogues and it continues to be a great series. The story starts with adventure and continues this until the end with Penn and Amelia, working together to uncover an artefact that Amelia believes to be have been found by her grandfather.
The characters were well developed, with their attraction to each other evident from the start. Their interactions were entertaining as were the secondary characters. Whilst they are arguing, you can’t help but chuckle as you know they are fighting the attraction that they hold for each other. The climax of the story was amazing, and I can’t wait to hear more about Gideon’s story.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I received this novel from net galley and the publisher for an honest review. Thank you!!
I have read several of Ms. Burke's novels and I enjoyed this one. You do not need to read the first two novels in the series, but it will give you a better understanding of this novel. Amelia Gardiner is an intelligent woman on a mission to prove the artifact her grandfather found is not a fake. Penn Bowen, who seeks out these treasures, is out to prove the artifact is a fake. Both meet under trying circumstances and agree to work together. Amelia is keeping secrets and this could impact her growing relationship with Penn. Penn is able to think on his feet, but is unsure how to handle Amelia. Neither can deny their attraction to the other. As more secrets are revealed, it puts Amelia and Penn in uncharted territory. Still, they both have a mission to complete and need to avoid those seeking the treasure for nefarious purposes. They fall in love with each other, and circumstances prevent them from being together, but they will do whatever is necessary to protect the other.
Publisher's Description:
Dashing adventurer Penn Bowen is dedicated to preserving Britain’s history and his carefree, bachelor lifestyle. He’s happiest when he’s in pursuit of knowledge and the occasional liaison with the right woman. So he’s more than a little perturbed when the wrong woman inserts herself into his latest quest—proving that a valuable artifact in Oxford’s museum is a fake. Amelia Gardiner is smart and capable...and determined to prove that Penn is wrong about the treasure her grandfather found.
Amelia won’t allow Penn to denigrate her family’s legacy, and she certainly won’t join the ranks of women who throw themselves at his feet. As secretive and dangerous factions infiltrate their hunt, Amelia and Penn must work together to stay one step ahead. But passion ignites between them and suddenly their alliance is more than a simple convenience. When peril strikes too close, they’ll risk everything they hold dear: family, honor, and a chance for the greatest treasure of all—love.
My Thoughts:
I really loved this book. It has an adventurousness that draws the reader in and reminds me of some love/adventure movies that I have been addicted to in the past, although they were of a contemporary nature and not historical like this is. Romancing The Stone comes to mind.
Penn Bowen is an adventurer who follows his instincts as far as antiquities go. He is on the trail of a dagger and just as he recovers it another person, a woman in disguise as a man demands he hand it over. Then to both of their surprise someone else takes it from them.
Amelia Gardiner is the daughter of the man who hid the dagger that Penn has recovered. The item in question is part of a trio of antiquities linked together. Penn is certain that at least one is a fake, that item is in a museum and was also recovered by Amelia's deceased father.
Will their quest to recover the dagger and Penn's need to prove the valuable artifact in Oxford’s museum is a fake lead to love or heartache for this unlikely pair.
I gave this book 4.75 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 3.5 of 5.0 flames.
This book is more adventure than steamy love scenes.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the Author and Publisher to read and review. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
Enjoyed it!

I look forward to reading the other books in this series.
Lord Of Fortune, has everything that I like in a historical romance. Fortune hunting, family drama, suspense and of course a lot of romance.
