This was a brilliant read. As soon as I started reading this book I just knew I was going to love it. Highly recommended
Loved loved this one!! Gripping and exciting and as always a fab read and can't wait to see what this author does next :)
This didn't work for me.
I found the story to be convoluted. Sometimes I can deal with that if the characters work. But sadly there were too many and so many of them were just straight up unlikeable.
Which the synopsis had me intrigued. The story just bored me.
Lucinda Riley's books are a bit hit and miss for me. I have absolutely adored some of them, and been unable to finish others. This is one of the latter ones for me, unfortunately. I wanted to love it, but I found it too multi-layered and too unbelievable to really enjoy. I made a big dent in the book but couldn't complete it.
Yet another good book from the author who really deserves praisei I enjoyed this read along with all her others.
I loved this book i brought in paperback as well i loved the characters i like how the story move along i was hooked from the first chapter i nred to read to see what was going to happen next just a wonderful plot you all loved
A another bumper read from Lucinda Riley. Upon the death of an elderly actor rumours of a letter revealing a huge secret are rife. A young journalist Joanna Haslam becomes obsessed with investigating the truth despite hostility and resistance from those who wish it to remain secret. I enjoyed this thrilling read from Lucinda Riley different to her other books.
Thanks to Netgalley the author and publishers for an ARC of this book.
I became so invested in this novel (that is no mean feat when you consider the fact it is 624 pages!). Honestly, they completely flew by!
The suspense kept me turning the pages throughout and I was blown away but that ending. I never guessed it at all. Yes, is it possibly a little far-fetched but I don't mind suspending reality on this occasion. It was an entertaining, absorbing read perfect for anyone looking for a sweeping mystery to escape the craziness that is real life right now.
Thanks to Pan Macmillan and Netgalley for sending me this in exchange for an open and honest review.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.
After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.
I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.
Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.
Well worth a read. A love story entwined in a story of secrets, twists and turns, nothing predictable. Each page peels away another layer of intriguing story, that'll keep you hooked to the end.
Loved it! Beautifully written, captivating story that will stay with me for a long time. Easy 5 stars.
The Love Letter by Lucinda Riley was a story of a secret so important that it had to stay out of the public eye at all costs. I really enjoyed this book.
I thought this was going to be a romance story, but the love letter of the title is a mystery that needs to be solved.
Another great read by Lucinda Riley. Love ,mystery, red herrings galore, keeps you guessing until the end a real page turner. Read at night and you won't get much sleep as you want to keep going.
I really enjoyed this story. Joanna Haslam is a journalist who is sent to cover a memorial story of Sir James Harrison. She meets an elderly woman called Rose at the service and helps the lady back to her flat after she feels unwell during the memorial. It all spirals after Joanna meets Rose.
This is a complex story with many twists and turns. It ticks the mystery, romance and suspense boxes. I only wish Marcus was more masculine and capable.
The ending was a real treat. I’m looking forward to reading more from Lucinda Riley. Thank you #netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.
I was really looking forward to reading The Love Letter by Lucinda Riley. Riley's The Seven Sisters series is a favorite of mine and I was curious to see how this stand-alone book would be. And, the mystery and the events surrounding the mystery is gloriously entertaining to read about. I love mysteries that makes the characters in books dig deep to reveal truths from the past. And, if I'm lucky the love stories that usually are a part of books like this will work out for me.
Unfortunately, that's what made this story limp a bit. I found myself not really caring about the romantic hookups. Partly, I think this lies in the fact that the character never really truly connected with me. And, this is a massive book, the Kindle edition is 624 pages. And, to feel, unconnected with characters in such a large book is a bit hard. Thankfully the main story, the secret that James Harrison left behind is pretty amazing. If the story had focused more on that, rather than the romantic entanglement, not to mention all the cheesy moments (especially the ending) than the book would have been truly great.
So, would I recommend this book? Yes, I would. It sure is a thick book, but Lucinda Riley is a great author and if you're lucky you will find both the mystery and the romance great.
Lucinda Riley is a new author for me and she has become an instant favourite. ‘The Love Letter’ is a tightly written combination of mystery and romance unravelling the truths of a long ago love affair. Nothing and no one are as they first seem. As one secret is unveiled, so is another mystery.
When 95-year old actor Sir James Harrison dies, journalist Joanna Haslam attends the memorial service where an incident with a frail elderly lady sets this story in motion. When a few days later Joanna receives a package from the lady, Rose, she visits her to ask questions only to find Rose has died. Is there a story here to write which will win her promotion on her tabloid newspaper? Untangling the truth from the lies turns out to be much more complicated and dangerous than Jo could ever have imagined.
Meanwhile Zoe Harrison, the actor’s grand-daughter, carer, and now facing life as a single mother with her son Jamie, receives a call from the former love of her life, Art. It is a while before the storylines of Jo and Zoe combine. The real identity of Art remains secret for quite a while though I had guessed before the reveal. Jo meanwhile has little luck in love and, after past betrayals, has difficulty trusting. There is a fully coloured-in cast of supporting characters – just enough, not too many – including Jo’s editor Alec and childhood friend Simon. Needless to say, everyone is pulled into the plot by the end.
About two-thirds of the way through what I thought was the plot solution turned out to be wrong and there was still a way to go. Although a bit confusing in parts as the intricate story flits from London to Ireland and France, I thoroughly enjoyed the spy element and the theatrical musical background of Sir James plus two good female leads in Jo and Zoe. More than just a romance, even if the plot gets slightly silly by the end. Definitely a page turner, I read it in two days on holiday.

First of all I was stuck in this book for 3 months, I never stick a book if I can’t get into it. But I wanted to persevere, The premise is good, the idea is fabulous, the execution however was just not enough to grip me in., I simply just did not gel with this story.
The idea isn’t all that unbelievable to be honest and I wouldn’t be surprised if there were stories like here in real life,
I managed to work out the ending as soon as the “deed” was done. But at that point I was shocked to see there was still a fair amount of book to get through. I stuck with it, its not bad at all, it was just a little hard going for me personally.. I can see how some would love it. But it just wasn’t for me at all.
I encourage others to read it for themselves and judge it on its own merits. It’s not an un-readable book by any stretch of the imagination. This was a personal feeling.
I am a huge fan of Lucinda Riley, especially the seven sisters series but unfortunately I struggled with this one. I really wanted to enjoy it and managed to get a third in but found it a bit too predictable and fairy tale like for my taste.
A romp of a novel comprising subterfuge, love, secrets and lies. It is chock full of deception and liberally spronkled with danger. An ambitious young journalist meets a 95 year old lady while covering the funeral service of the patriarch of a well known and loved theatrical family. She unearths a secret that others have assiduously tried to quell. In her quest to unearth the truth she becomes embroiled in events that will have devastating consequences for her. The ramifications have the potential to shake the foundations of the establishment. A brave and readeorthy novel
