The Banker’s Wife features secrets, death and financial scandals. It’s well written and the plot flows well but I did find it lacked pace somewhat during the middle section of the book. I would rate this book 3.5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Hodder and Staughton and the author for the chance to review.
I was looking forward to reading this book and I was not disappointed. A very absorbing storyline that takes you along with it and eventually you are led to the conclusion. Definitely recommended.
really enjoyed this book found it hard to put down as needed to find out if Annabel and Marina live to see the story out in print
Actually 4.5 stars.
Well this made a pleasant change from the psychological thrillers that I usually read. Don't get me wrong, it had its fair share of thrills and chills and suspicious behaviour but was mostly all about follow the money! Annabel and Matthew live in Geneva, him being a hot shot banker for a prestigious Swiss bank. Their life is on the whole good, that it until the day that Annabel is told of the death of Matthew in a plane crash. Not only that, but he was sharing the plane with another woman, flying from a place that she didn't know he had been. Having previously thought her relationship solid, she now has to content both with his death and possible betrayal. She starts to look more closely into his life and work.
Meanwhile, Marina is working with a journalist who is investigating the bank that Matthew works for. When her boss is found dead on the same day as Matthew she starts to look more closely into what her boss was investigating.
With both women now digging around in matters that certain people need to keep hidden things are liable to get a bit hairy for them... And they do... with shocking results.
Well, I whizzed through this book at a bit of a rate of knots. It kept me interested and intrigued throughout. So why round my half stat down? Well, probably cos one of the main reveals that should have made the book was pretty obvious to me right from the very beginning so it didn't quite deliver the punch that it maybe could have done. Is this a little harsh? Is it the author's fault I guessed early? Probably not but without that boom at the end, it did fall a little flat for me and I have to call it as I see it. Taking that out of the equation for the minute, the rest of the book was extremely well plotted and the characters all did their jobs very well so maybe I am being a little harsh.
One thing that did surprise me about the book was the way that the banking sector was depicted and explained. I have literally zero interest or experience in high finance but the relevant parts were explained very well and succinctly so there was nothing that I didn't understand or had to look up myself. The author also made the whole subject quite interesting to boot!
The action is pretty non stop once things get going and our characters are definitely put through the mill a few times along the way. Yes, OK, I did suspend belief a few times along the way but with a storyline as good as the one in this book, I can easily forgive an author for a bit of licence to move things along. There were also a few plot holes/anomalies and some out of character behaviour but again, easily forgivable in context.
All in all a good solid read that, although didn't quite leave me as satisfied as it should have, did keep my attention nicely along the way, leaving me interested in checking out the author's other books. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
Thought this book was gripping from the first page until the last, couldn't put it down.
It's everything you want from a thriller, fast paced, full of suspense, full of twists and turns.
Highly recommend it
Thank you netgalley, Christina Alger and the publisher for allowing me to read and review this book.
The Banker's Wife is an excellent read. It is a contemporary thriller which delves into the complexities of off shore companies, secretive bankers and their clients who seek to hide their ill gotten gains. The story is in fact about two women, Annabel, the banker's wife and Marina, a journalist who is engaged to a wealthy American with political connections. How their stories collide is very cleverly written and I highly recommend The Banker's Wife when it is published early in 2019. Many thanks indeed to NetGalley and
Hodder & Stoughton for the opportunity to read and review it.

This book was not what I expected, in a good way! I can totally see this as a BBC drama, along the lines of The Night Manager. You don't know who to trust and there are so many believable twists and turns. Both Annabel and Marina are great, strong, female characters and you are totally with them along the way. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review.
This was a fun read! I enjoyed the way the author told this story and the rollercoaster that was the plot itself: full of twists, drops, heights and turns. I can absolutely see this book being adapted to the screen and look forward to watching it when it does.
""Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review**
One of the best books I've read this year. I couldn't put it down once I started. Although I guessed part of the storyline it was thoroughly enjoyable.
Highly recommended
This is a first for me by this author... I look forward to more in the future.
Annabel's seemingly perfect ex-patriate life in Geneva is shattered when her banker husband Matthew's plane crashes in the Alps. When Annabel finds clues that his death may not be all it seems, she puts herself in the crosshairs of powerful enemies and questions whether she really knew her husband at all.
Meanwhile, journalist Marina is investigating Swiss United, the bank where Matthew worked. But when she uncovers evidence of a shocking global financial scandal that implicates someone close to home, she is forced to make an impossible choice.
A gripping story from the start... A mole in a bank... information sharing... money laundering... shell companies... politicians, business and very powerful people all results in a dangerous life for the mole, but who is the mole???
You're kept guessing as people get killed along the way.
Who do you trust??
I couldn't put it down once I started... I had to know how it would all end!
A fantastic page-turner with lots of twists and turns.
Thank-You Netgalley for my ARC.
A financial thriller of the highest order.told from the perspectives of three strong women Annabel, Marina and sometimes Zoe.. Set in the murky world of high finance, the author leads us into this world full of murder, money laundering and the mega rich. Mainly set in Geneva, with plenty of well thought out plot twists to the very end. Are Swiss banks corrupt? I am not saying anymore about the plot as this will spoil the excellent book. I love that the characters are strong, the place descriptions good and overall a fascinating read. Glad to see it may come to our screens. Thanks to Net Galley for the opportunity to read and review.
Thank you Netgalley for this book in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this thriller enormously, a totally engrossing read. without giving away the plot, I cannot believe that so many people use / abuse the Swiss banking system, but hey what do I know!! The storyline was totally beliveable, and so interesting I had trouble putting the book down. I would rfecommend wholeheartedly.
Thanks to both NetGalley and also Hodder and Stoughton publishers for giving me the opportunity to read ’The Bankers Wife by Christina Alger in exchange for my honest unbiased opinion and review.
This book is a bit of a slow starter and to be truthful I was finding it hard to get my teeth into it. I did stick with it.
The good reviews on this novel made me determined to stick with it and I'm glad I did.
That said, it was an easy start, it just didn't grab me until about a third in.
A tense and tidy plot which would make it a great holiday read.
It took me a bit to get into this book but once I did I really enjoyed it. It is a good thriller with plenty of suspense, twists and turns and I can thoroughly recommend.
This was a brilliant book, and I than net galley for allowing me to read this.book ahead of publication.
A story about money laundering and murder in very high circles of society.
It took a reporter, and the, wife of a murdered banker trying to escape people trying to stop them finding out who was behind the laundering of such a lot of money, and all the people they murdered in the process.
I hear a tv programme is going to be made about this book, and look, forward to seeing it on tv. Cannot be as good as the book.
A fast paced thriller which keeps you turning the page and guessing throughout.
I was concerned that the banking element may be confusing / turn me off but not in the slightest, it made it for more interesting plot.
So pleased it's going to be turned into a tv series, you can see how well it will translate onto screen - looking forward to it!
4.5 stars.
Thanks Cristina Alger, Hodder & Stoughton and NetGalley for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I loved the book from the very beginning. Something dragged me into the middle of the story and I just couldn't put it down anymore. I really like how the two wives know about each other in a way and have some connection between their husband.
I loved this book it kept me guessing and shouting at the book. Right until the end. It was thrilling with lots of twist and I would recommend it to friend and family .... can’t wait to read another one of Cristina’s books
