This isn't my usual type of thriller but am I glad I read it!
Set in the world of offshore banking with politics, journalism and corruption. I loved it and couldn't put it down. I was totally engrossed in it to the point that when reading it while waiting for an appointment I didn't hear my name called - repeatedly! Brilliant book.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC

it was amazing
What a brilliant book! This is a hidden gem!!!
Thanks NetGalley for giving me the chance to read and review this. It was my first review, and a great book to start things off.
It was so difficult to put this thriller down and the only thing that disappointed me about it was when I finished the book and wondered what to read next. It was so good from the first few pages, right to the end.
The book is about a Swiss Offshore Banker who mysteriously dies in a plane accident in the Swiss Alps; his wife, Annabel who finds out something dodgy has been going on at the bank and a journalist, Marina who happens to come across this via a colleague. It’s written from both Annabel and Marina’s perspectives and although I was a little worried about this initially, it worked out perfectly.
I can actually imagine this book being made into a movie, it was so good and would rush out to watch it if it is. Hope you enjoy it too. I’ll definitely be checking Christina Alger’s other books.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book and I really enjoyed it was tense and very well. Written and kept me guessing Not what i imagine the end to be. Fab read
I received an ecopy of this novel from Netgalley.
It is not the usual type of thriller that I would choose and I imagined that I would find the detail too complex. I was so wrong, this is a highly readable, timely and compelling story.
The different chapters are dedicated to the narration from the stance of the three main female characters. Sounds confusing but it was dealt with very well and the plot ran smoothly except in one chapter when the text referred to both Marina and Annabelle but presumably this has already been picked up and corrected.
Highly recommended.
Un-put-down-able!! Started reading this late last night and finished in the early hours, heart pounding! A timely thriller centred around the shady business of anonymous offshore bank accounts, which I confess would not normally excite me but the plot manoeuvres around complex financial issues with ease for the uninitiated and with great skill and relevance to our modern age and real-life issues that is entirely credible - and fascinating.. Strong characters have depth and credibility, with 'ordinary' everyday people becoming involved in situations which test their integrity and courage to the limit.
What a joy to read a superb thriller that offers something different from the usual detective/whodunnit style, with a novel but absolutely up-to-date and timely central theme - and filled with intelligent plot (which I won't go over here as it's mentioned elsewhere) and characters.
Highly recommended - and I'm now off to see what else this brilliant author has published, so I can get my hands on it.
The Bankers Wife is a well written, intriguing thriller where the dark side of billionaire banking intertwines with politics and journalism. It's an intelligent read yet never becomes overly complicated and keeps you on the edge of your seat until the final few pages. Highly recommended to anyone that likes a good thriller!
A cyber crime novel at its finest!
From the very first page this book had me hooked.
It follows the stories of Annabel and Marina.
Annabel's banker husband has died in a plane crash under suspicious circumstances.
Marina is a journalist who finds herself immersed in the world of International banking and scandal.
Very believable story and I found it easy to read and follow the various characters.
Lots of twists and turns along the way to a very satisfying ending. Would recommend!
I have to admit I wasn’t entirely sure I was going to like this book as I’m not a great fan of banking, cyber, corporate crime etc but I absolutely loved it. Right from the first page to the last page I was gripped to the twists and turns.
A plane crash in the alps leaves Annabel a young widow after her banker husband dies in the wreckage. However Annabel soon finds out that her husband didn’t tell her everything and she soon discovers he had plenty of secrets that may put her in danger. Meanwhile on the other side of the world a journalist, Marina, is discovering some secrets of her own. Her boss has uncovered a story that will rock the world but it will also put lots of people in danger. He suddenly ends up dead and it is now down to Marina to discover the facts of the story, before it’s too late.
This is a fantastic read and will have you routing for Annabel and Marina, among others. There are plenty of twists and turns and lots of secrets to be revealed within the pages. If you love mysteries and crime novels you will absolutely love this !!
This was a gripping thriller set in the murky world of banking. Straight from the start this book had me glued to my seat. There isn't a dull moment anywhere in this story and it kept my attention from start o finish
The Banker’s Wife was a wonderfully paced, smart thriller based in the world of international banking and finance, which could have easily made it a challenge to get through and slightly difficult to understand if you are not in the world of finance but that is completely not the case. The author approaches the setting in such a way that it is intrinsic to the story but also well explained to the reader.
The pacing was perfect, it was fast enough to keep me turning the pages in suspense and being told from the point of view of people outside of the direct finance world worked really well, without feeling too heavy and like your brain is fried. The story is told from the point of view of two women – Annabel (Matthew’s wife) and Marina (a journalist) – which worked well with each perspective feeling like it was all building together to one story. I did prefer the point of view of Annabel and could happily have had the book all from her point of view, but that may just be because I liked her character the most so maybe I am biased!
Really enjoyed this book, it centres around a recent widow and journalists and unravels to reveal a gripping thriller in the world of banking and corruption! A great read that you can’t put down! Thank you for the read!
With thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the book in exchange for an honest review.
I found this book totally engrossing and even though some of the banking terms and the technical procedures were beyond my knowledge, it still made for an enthralling read. It was amazing when you realised that so many countries and high placed people were using the Swiss banking system to conceal vast amounts of money. It was an extremely interesting book to read and the ending was good, in that it all fell into place for the good guys and the bad guys would be punished. Or would they?
Highly recommended.
This is the first book that I have read by this author but I will be looking for her other books and hoping that they are all as good as this one.
A powerful story that kept me reading long into the night. Refreshingly the two main characters are women.
It provides insights into the world of off shore banking and the deceit and power that exists in this world that many of us know little about except from the press . It gives insights into the often dangerous world that journalists live in to provide us with insights into this dangerous world. It is very up to date giving insights into how the war in Syria is probably being financed and how corrupt the major players are.
An excellent read that reminds us of Edward Snowden and of the Panama Papers.
A thrilling mystery that kept me reading all night. The world of offshore banking is awash with people who work hard, play hard and are not always on the right side of the law. Living the life most of us could only dream of, exclusive clubs, highest end hotels and dripping with jewels are the Banker's and their wives. But it's not all as easy as it looks, could you deal illegally, with world criminals and still sleep sound at night? Journalists try hard to crack just one of these bankers for details of illegal dealings which could make the story of their life but to what cost? your life? their life? Told from the perspective of the recently widowed banker's wife, and the journalist, who also recently lost someone, a co-worker who thought he had a lead this fast paced crime/mystery novel is definitely an interesting read.
Another great book from Cristina Alger.
I loved this thriller told from the view of Annabel the bankers wife and Marina a journalist engaged to Grant Ellis who's Dad is about to run for the Democratic nomination to be the Presidential of the USA. Annabel is married to Mathew who works as a Swiss Banker in Geneva (where else), however not all is as pure as would seem hence the interest of Marina and her boss Duncan. What follows is murder or is that a unbelievably load of unfortunate accidents, plus the involvement of rather a lot of accounts with links to some of the worlds most unappealing characters. This puts our heroines lives at risk and all those around them as a race against time pursues and you will not want to miss one line of this addictive plot that go twists and turns all over the place. You will take a while to work out who to trust and who not to which is how a great thriller should be and I don't think this will disappoint you at all till the last page when you come up for air and either read I again or look for another of Cristinas books to sink be into.
Don't miss this one it's a must read from my point of view.

Both Annabel and Marina are exceptional women, determined and strong. The whole story breathed originality and I don't doubt these things happen in reality. I enjoyed this book a lot!
Dirty money, crooked bankers, ruthless dictators and enough twists and turns to keep you guessing until the end, this is a great page turner. I particularly loved the strong female characters. Often this genre holds female characters in firmly stereotypical roles but this book has strong, intelligent women taking the lead. I’ll definitely look out for more by this author.
Authentic detail, fast-paced action, and spine-tingling suspense make this international thriller absorbing and unputdownable. Succinctly introduced the key players seem unconnected at the outset but as tragedy strikes, their roles align and give the reader a realistic, contemporary thriller to enjoy.
Told from two points of view; Annabel, 'The Banker's Wife' and Marina the society journalist find themselves up against the establishment and might of the international financial sector. One is personally affected, the other an objective observer, but lines are blurred, and both women put themselves in danger to find and reveal the truth and stop international corruption and murder.
A detailed plot demands concentration but the clues to solve the mysteries posed are there. The menacing ethos simmers in the background before exploding in the final chapters, making you wonder if the truth will come out and if the protagonists will live to see it.
The perfect weekend read.
I received a copy of this book from Mulholland Books - Hodder and Stoughton via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
A powerful psychological complex story. This book is so up to date and will ring many bells to the reader in relation to life today. A gripping book that is hard to put down. A mole in a bank is sharing information about money laundering and shell companies being used by politicians, business people and very powerful people. As a result life becomes very dangerous for the mole.....who is the mole...Zoe ? Arthur her boyfriend or Grant the boyfriend of the reporter trying to get the story out in the public domain. This book keeps you guessing as people get killed along the way. Who do you trust ? A great read.
I loved this book, it gripped me from the start.. Great characters and a plot which was fast paced and tense. A very enjoyable read with great twists and turns. I look forward to reading more from Christina Alger. Highly recommended.
