First off thank you to Net Galley and BookOuture for the chance to read this book. I absolutely love Angela Marsons Kim Stone series of books. You know when you pick up one of these novels that you are going to enjoy it. This latest one is no exception. It involves private schools, money, murder and secret societies and the hold they have over people. I feel I have been on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. It grips you from the first page and doesn't let go until the last. Absolutely brilliant. I would have no hesitation in recommending this book or any of the previous 7 Kim Stone books. Congratulations Angela on another sure fire winner.
I have been waiting for the next book by Angela Marsons and WoW..........OMG What a Book......The beginning was just a Breath taker and the rest of the book I was hooked and could not put it down!.........Dying Truth by Angela Marsons is the 8th installment of D.I. Kim Stone's story I found this book Just brilliant, gripping, shocking and an emotional read with a OMG devastating shocking ending.
Angela you are a Genius! Your books are just the Best of the Best. Do you ever write a bad book?
I can honestly You are one of the best crime thrillers I have ever read.
Thank you to Netgalley, Angela Marsons and Bookouture for this review copy, given in exchange for an honest review.
10/10 read and a BIG FAT 5 Star book......Well Done Angela xx
I can just see most reviews for this book will be starting with something along the line of 'Wow, Where do I start' only worded better.
I truly don't know what to say, How can you better your last 7 books when those 7 were fantastic reads. I don't just mean improve the next one a little bit. Somehow Angela Marsons manages smash the last brillientness of the book and better it ten fold. Angela I don't know how the hell you do it, but please, keep on doing it.
The tension, the atmosphere, the build up, everything about this book was just Spot on. I feel like I've been on one hell of a ride with this story. The nail biting is that intense, these books should come with a free manicure.
So Dying Truth. We are off again with some familiar faces, character we have been getting to know over 8 books. Characters that have really grown and feel as though they have become real friends.
I have to start with Kim Stone. Now I don't know what it is about this character but I love reading about her. The familiarity while reading is almost like it's someone you personally know.
The book kicks off with Stone and Bryant attending an emergency at a school, where 13 year old Sadie Winter has jumped off the roof of her school. How could such a young girl have such problems that she feels the only answer is to kill herself? Everything seems to point to suicide. Only Detective Inspector Kim Stone, has other thoughts and once she gets something in her head, there is no changing her mind. It's not long after that another child is found dead. Kim Stone is certain that these are not suicide attempts or just accidents, Kim know's in her mind that these deaths are connected.
I really did look forward to each time I got the chance to pick up this book. A first class read that I feel will be difficult to top. Yet I have no doubt it will be topped. It's going to be damn interesting to see where Angela Marsons takes this series. This is easiest the best book of the series, but i'm sure I keep saying that each time a new one comes out.
This has certainly gone onto my 2018 MUST READ list
Wow! This book just left me with a whole bunch of feels... a lump in my throat to actual goose bumps! A huge fan of this author and this series and this book may be one of her best!
Book number 8 starts off with a bang. A girl has jumped from the roof of a private school and has committed suicide! Or did she? Enter D.I. Kim Stone and her team to investigate... Kim has her suspicions and if we all know Kim by now, she won't let it go until she gets her answers.
This one blew me away. Great plot with a fast pace that had me tearing through the pages. Fantastic character development.. I even love the characters that we love to hate. You know the ones... Pain in the A*$ Tracy Frost and Dr. Alexandra Thorne are great additions! Dr. Alex Thorne intrigues me!
I’ve read many police procedural series now and I must admit, I lose interest in some of them, NOT this series. A random prostitute gets murdered, etc.. I have to care about the characters and/or the plot to be fully invested in the book. The whole idea of whether a young girl committed suicide or was killed at a private elite school was very intriguing to me!
It is going to take me a while to get over that ending!!! This is book number 8 of this fantastic series and here I am wanting more. That says a lot to me about the author and her work. I highly recommend this series. If you have not yet read one, do yourself a favor and buy the first book! Angela Marsons, I cannot wait to see what you come up with next but I know that I will be here eagerly waiting for book number 9! Keep them coming please!
.
Wow, the action was relentless from the first page to the last ,I have loved all of this series and didn't think the bar could be raised ,but this book blew the roof off.I absolutely loved it ,and couldn't read it fast enough.this was a roller coaster of action and emotions and it is going to take a while to process it.No spoilers , I wouldn't do that but this is a book that you will remember I think and it will be a hard act to follow.I probably shouldn't compare books but I think I will need to read a different genre next as it will be very hard to read a better thriller than this. Definitely gets 5 stars from me, and I am grateful to the Publishers and netgalley for this ARC.
Another brilliant instalment in this well established series, admittedly I wouldn't recommend reading as a stand-alone novel. As fast paced and complex as always but I was disappointed with the conclusion, Dawson wasn't necessary.
Excited as always to see what the future holds for Kim and co.
Wow! WOW!
The 8th installment of Kim Stone’s story was a brilliant but emotional read with a devastating ending.
Angela Marsons is a wonderfully talented author and I have found all 8 of her Kim Stone books to be enjoyable, thrilling and difficult to put down.
I was worried that this might have been a weaker effort this time, as I thought what could possibly happen to keep me reading in a private school inhabited by completely unlikable characters, but it did not disappoint!
I looks forward to the next installment.
I have enjoyed every book in the Kim stone series but I think, for me, that this is the best in the series so far. Angela Marsons has outdone herself. A tale of money, bullying and murders all set in a private boarding school. I could not put this book down at all today! This is a great whodunnit that really does keep you guessing. I have to admit that I also shed the odd tear. I would highly recommend this book
Thanks a million Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read the best book ever!! O Angela Marsons you've outdone yourself this time! How do you do it! The eighth book in the series and by far the best.
A young girl jumps to her death at an exclusive private school. An apparent suicide, or is it?? Detective Kim Stone has her doubts and begins an investigation. As the number of deaths rise she has her work cut out! The school is under investigation. With secret clubs and initiations just what is going on?? But Angela Marsons that ending......I finished the book at 2am and I literally had tears pouring down my face! Well done Angela. I cannot praise you highly enough. It deserves way more than five stars!!. Please read it everyone.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this arc.
WOW!
Did I just read what I thought I read? I've loved Angela Marson's Kim Stone books from the beginning, but I'm not sure if I still like Angela (adore Kim though). I read book 8 in less than 24 hours. I felt totally gut-punched when I finished. Came back to it a day later and re-read the entire book again just to make sure I had read it correctly the first time Had the stuffing knocked out of me all over again.
I am totally in awe over Angela Marson's talent for writing and storytelling. Her books just keep getting better!
How does she do that? I read somewhere (and hope it's true) that her deal with Bookouture is for SIXTEEN Kim Stone books. And this is only # 8.......half way through...... Please, please, please tell me that # 9 is nearly ready. I need resolution.
Aaaah Kim Stone. What can I tell you about her?
She is a certified Bad ass. Kim does not take crap from anyone and is a fantastic character. Kim is someone I would love to go to the pub with and listen to her stories.
If something were ever to happen to me, I would wish someone like Kim would solve the case. She is amazing.
Kim is one of those rare things, a character so well written she comes alive from the pages. I devour these books.
Once again, this one was amazing and I can highly recommend it.
I am contemplating starting a little book club at work for my fellow crime thriller lovers and I would start us all off with a Kim Stone thriller.
Seriously, read these books. You will not be disappointed.
brilliant book, kim stone is so real,we would all hope to have her getting justice for us, Angela Marsons has done it again, this is the 8th book in the series so if you havent read any, start now,you wont be disappointed
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 fantastic stars.
Angela Marsons does it again. I have read all her previous Kim Stone books and they get better and better.
Kim Stone is an excellently written character, and her partnership with Bryant gets better and better. All the members of the team have a unique role and personality so you get a real sense of who they are.
The book has a great premise; secret societies at a boarding school, children murdered, diary entry chapters, chapters from the unknown bad guy, and a shock at the end that was unexpected, sad, brilliant.
When is the next book out?!
I received a copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley.
This latest instalment is set in an expensive private school, where an apparent suicide turns out to be murder, and then a second child dies. I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I was going to: with very few exceptions, the adult and child suspects were all such appalling amoral people that it had a distancing effect on me. The practices and reach of the sorority-style secret societies were so extreme as to be unbelievable. We were expected to believe they could affect the police investigation, destroy the lives of two men simply because later in life they became close, do anything and everything a former member requested? There's loyalty and then there's what went on in this book.
The sections where Kim went and discussed "whether children can be evil and why" with experts seemed tacked on and a little irrelevant. The ending was a bit of a shocker, but mainly I was glad to leave the dysfunctional world the author had created here.
I'll keep reading these, but this wasn't my favourite by a long way.
Wow! What a book! What an ending! I LOVED it! Pure genius! A HUGE thanks to the amazing author for another wonderful read. I am so in awe.
After every book in this series, I miss Kim Stone so much that I have to reread the series while waiting for the next book. And with every book, I like Kim Stone that bit more. I honestly don't get those who say Kim is not likeable - she is FABULOUS and so real. Punishingly loyal, more than a bit broken, with a very strong sense of right and wrong and a BIG heart that she hides behind a prickly exterior, I would very much want Kim fighting my corner.
This author is absolutely amazing and deserves to be read by everyone! Her magic is to weave an incredibly addictive crime story while, unobtrusively, also commenting on social issues and making the reader think, engage, consider, question. She writes with passion and with heart.
Usually as soon as I finish a book, I gather my thoughts together and write the review for it but with this one after that explosive ending, I needed to recover, to shed a few tears, to think some more about the book, the characters. I wasn't ready to let go. This book moved me and shook me and made me think. It is one of the best crime thrillers I have ever read. This author is the absolute best! A miracle worker! With every book she does the unthinkable and conquers perfection yet again!
Well this is possibly the easiest review I've ever has to write. It's Angela Marsons, so five stars, 'nuff said.
Of course I jest. They're always loads of great things to say about any DI Kim Stone novel - they're gripping, intriguing, thrilling, addictive ,fantastic....the list goes on and on. Oh I missed two that apply very much to this particular book - emotional and heart breaking. Did Ms Marsons want us to cry her a river? Well she got an ocean here. I finished this late and woke up him indoors sobbing my heart out.I won't say more ( spoilers and what not) but you have been warned. If you're a Kim Stone fan (pfft if - of course you are) do not finish this in public!
This story revolves around Heathcrest, a boarding school for the progeny of the rich, gifted and famous. Think of it as Eton in the Midlands. When Sadie Winters, a thirteen year old student throws herself from the roof of the school building the school wants things kept as quiet as possible. Unfortunately for them Kim Stone is the nearest officer and is at the scene shortly after the girl dies and she senses something isn't right despite her colleagues misgivings. When another student dies shortly after the team realises she was right and soon all evidence points to a conspiracy of silence that goes back decades. As the assaults a d bodies mount up they are forced to confront that the person they are trying to protect the students of Heathcrest from may well be a child themselves...
Read this book. Just do it. If you haven't read the others then go, buy them all and settle in for one of the very best detective series around. You really won't regret it.
Wow! What a book! Grabs you from the first page and doesn't let go. This series just gets better and better. Easy 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this book in exchange for a honest review.
Wow, where to start this one? Sadie Winters is described as a 'troubled' girl who has apparently committed suicide. When things don't add up, we know Kim Stone won't let things rest. This book will take you on an emotional roller-coaster ride and the reader will definitely be left reeling. Its going to take me some time to recover from this one. Usually, I can immediately start another book, but not with this one. I just need to sit and digest what happened.. Angie Marsons, you're phenomenally talented! I like the writing style, the suspense and the story is written so well. That last two chapters will just get you, it's just so beautifully written.
This was a great crime thriller with elements of so many other things happening. I love that Alex Thorne had a role to play in this book. Its always fascinating when she interacts with Kim.
This series just keeps getting better and better. I noticed with some series, it tends to fall short after a while, but this is not the case here. I would advise the reader to read the other books in the series first.
I feel like my review is totally inadequate. I don't think I can do justice right now, if ever. I highly recommend this series.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the Publishers for this review copy, given in exchange for an honest review.
When 13 year old Sadie Winter jumps from the roof of her school, everyone thinks its suicide. Everyone except Detective Inspector Kim Stone. When another body of a young boy is found at the same school, DI Stone is convinced that they are not accidents and are somehow related. Investigations at the highly exclusive private school show that the school holds a lot of secrets, and other incidents that have happened in the past may also be connected. Could it be one of the pupils that is behind the other children’s deaths? In search of answers Kim Stone does the unthinkable and visits Dr Alex Thorne in prison to find out if children are capable of killing. Can Kim’s team work out what is going on before any more children are killed?
This is book #8 in the DI Kim Stone series. Whilst it can be read as a standalone novel, it does feature references to other books, and therefore it would make sense for it to be read as part of the series. For information, this book is set in the Black Country, which is part of the West Midlands area of the UK.
So very excited to read this book! I love the Kim Stone series and have read and enjoyed all of them. When I received this book, I put down everything else I was reading so I could get started on this one immediately. This is not a book which can be put onto a ‘To Be Read’ pile! The story begins with the horrific suicide of a young girl at an exclusive private school. Everyone says the girl jumped from the bell tower, but nobody actually saw her. DI Kim Stone and her team are sent to investigate the death assuming it is a tragic suicide, but Kim is suspicious of the circumstances and orders her team to look into it. From there, it’s great to see Kim and her team doing what they do best – finding out the answers which no one else can!
I think that’s as far as I’m going to go with the description of the book as I really wouldn’t want to spoil it by unintentionally revealing something I shouldn’t! What I can say though is that this is the best book of the series yet…..FACT! I was completely and utterly hooked into this one and could not put it down. The writing was absolutely superb and the story was original and very well researched. For me it was so scary to think that things like this may actually be happening in places where are children go. Hopefully it’s all just fiction, but who knows!?
All of the team are back for this book and what I love about this series is how well the team works together, with them all having their own strengths to bring to it. I love the character of Stacey in this book, who has definitely proved herself a worthy asset to the team.
All in all, it is just one huge rollercoaster of a storyline, with twists and turns and lots of ‘I knew it’, ‘No it can’t be’, ‘Oh My God’ and ‘NO!!!’ Just when I thought I had it all worked out, something happened that changed it all around again. The author has managed to write a story which wasn’t only just thrilling and exciting but also absolutely heart-breaking. I’m sure I’m not the only one who will have needed tissues by the end of it.
And, yes I know I always say it when I review a book from this series, but I live in the Black Country and it’s great to read all the names of places that I know and go to regularly! I also loved Stacey’s Black Country accent, which probably just looked like editing mistakes to those not in the know! You just cor beat it!
Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic (or should I say Bostin’ Bostin’ Bostin’)!! Book #9 can’t come quick enough!!
Oh where to start? I echo the thoughts of other reviewers that this is possibly the best Kim Stone book yet. I finished it in two sittings, unable to put it down, and ended up a weeping mess as I reached the last page. Once again the story is fantastic and the characters also. The team of Stone, Bryant, Dawson and Wood bringing their different skills and approach to the case giving it so much depth. I wanted to finish the book, but at the same time I didn't because I didn't want to say goodbye to the team. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
