Three Secrets is a serious misnomer! This is a family that puts the FUN in dysfunctional, and they have way more than three secrets!

The book starts with a dinner between Fran, her husband Richard, and Richard's brother John. After the dinner, Richard takes a walk which ends in him committing suicide by jumping off a bridge into highway traffic. Why? That is only one of the mysteries in Three Secrets. The story unfolds by alternating between Fran's and John's points of view. Along the way, we meet John's crazy wife, Richard and John's controlling mother, and several really cute children.

The story is compelling, and Clare Boyd weaves a masterful mystery. The characters are well developed, and the writing is stellar. I highly recommend Three Secrets.

Francesca is facing life after the suicide of her husband, Robert. She moves, begrudgingly, to the village where her in laws live ad begins to build Alice there, while harbouring a secret that could upset the family balance. Throughout the story we read several different viewpoints: Francesca’s told in the first person, John’s (her brother in law) told in the third person, and flashbacks to When’s Robert was alive as they try to piece together what cause him to jump from a bridge. As the story unfolds, we learn what Francesca’s secret is, along with 2 others that the family have been trying to keep from each other. The question is, will there be any more casualties in the tale?

I enjoyed the end of this story and felt the last 75 or so pages were quite thrilling...it all happened pretty quickly at the end. The rest of the story however felt like quite a drawn-out family drama, (to me anyway) which isn’t my usual kind of book at all and it felt like quite a chore to keep going at some points. I just needed a bit more excitement to keep me hooked. Finding out Francesca’s secret is what really kept me reading and by that point I’d found the more thrilling part so wanted to keep reading!

Secrets, secrets and SECRETS!

Everyone in this book has a secret! A secret that once known can and will change things forever. Two years ago, Francesca's husband, Robert kissed her goodbye before leaving to pick up more wine at a store and then jumps off an overpass to his death.

Since then, Francesca and her daughter have moved to a new home closer to Robert's family. Being closer means having them in her life more, but it also means learning some "truths" about her husband's family and her husband. There is a saying that the truth will set you free.....but will it?

I had a hard time getting into this book. I started and stopped it several times before deciding to give it the old college try. After I got through the first initial chapters the book did pick up for me. I was intrigued by what was found in the medicine cabinet and the relationships between several characters. The book teases that Francesca's life could be in danger if she learns the truth and I felt that was misleading. I never felt that she was the character whose life was in danger. I felt let down by this aspect. I liked the unraveling of family secrets but was underwhelmed by most of the book.

This was a hard one for me to rate and I found the book to be satisfying but at the same time felt the description was a little misleading. This book was well written and I am most likely in the minority here, but for me this book was good - not great.

The three secrets of the title were intricately crafted into the story. I devoured this book, about relationships - mothers, brothers, forbidden. The main story is two brothers and a controlling mother. It is all about how it is seen!

Three Secrets by Clare Boyd turned out to be quite different from what I was expecting. I thought it would be more of a psychological thriller. However, it ended up being a compulsive, family drama filled with lies and secrets. I loved it!

The story begins on the night that Robert committed suicide. There is a lot of mystery surrounding his death. Robert was a husband, father and successful entrepreneur. He seemed to have a lot to live for, so why did he end his life? Francesca is the grieving widow left with more questions than answers. She soon finds herself fighting to gain control of her life under the domineering matriarch of Camille, her husband’s mother.

This story was twisted. As in, twisted! There are certain things that I still can’t wrap my head around. I am not referring to something implausible, no! This is something that happens in real life but it is still shocking to read about. I know I am being really vague but I was surprised and yeah, I want you to discover these details for yourself so I won’t say anything else. The story also has one of the vilest characters. This isn’t a serial killer or some crazy baddie but a seemingly, regular person with very dark tendencies. The kind of person you can see yourself being neighbors with. The kind of neighbor that you’d never suspect of harboring such terrible secrets. Yeah, again with the vagueness but you need to read this book to find out what I mean.

This is a story of love, loss, betrayal, secrets and family. It is character-driven and I enjoyed learning about the MCs and the very dysfunctional Tennant family. Some characters I liked, while others are likely to show up in future nightmares. I had fun trying to guess the secrets. Interestingly, I thought there were more than three secrets. I think I discovered about six… or ten but anyway, I guess the three were the main ones.

I enjoyed Three Secrets and can’t wait to read the next title by Clare Boyd.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me this ARC of Three Secrets!
Three Secrets was basically a book about a dysfunctional family and the secrets they kept that all lead to the suicide of one of their sons. There were some slow moments but for the most part I felt like I was on a emotional roller coaster. Curious, happy, sad, and then incredibly angry the next. The story line had me hooked and I enjoyed it from the beginning to end.
That being said I honestly feel that this wasn’t a mystery, physiological thriller, or twisty book that it’s marketed as. All the “mystery” and “twists” I saw a mile away and really were just confirmations rather than a WOW moment. It more so tackles subjects like drugs, depression, and abuse. I feel like a lot of books lately want to be marked as a thriller or mystery but the story just isn’t written the right way for it. But with all that being said, I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading other books by this author.

Wow ! What a thrilling read . This is a gripping moody dark drama that is both exciting and interesting to read. I thought it very well done and am a big fan of this author's writing. I was thrilled to receive this for review. Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley. My opinion is my own.
This is a explosive drama set around a family death. A young husband leaves the house and jumps off a bridge. He has secrets of his own and known only to him. His wife is racked with guilt she keeps to herself. She fears her actions before his death led to his suicide. His bitter Mother is hiding secrets of her own, unknown to her daughter in law. As the Mother in law manipulates the grieving wife and her granddaughter to keep them close, everyone that is harboring secrets begins to unravel. This is just the right balance of plot, suspense and good dialogue that keeps this reader reading until the last page. The ending is nothing short of explosive ! I loved it. I highly recommend this book for your reading enjoyment for everyone that enjoys mystery , thrillers and suspense. A perfect read !

I almost put this one down in the first chapter as it felt like it was going to be a bit cheesy. Since I had just finished a book I really enjoyed I put it down and tried again the next day. I am so very glad that I did go back to it as I ended up reading this in only two days. It sucked me in after only a few chapters and kept my interest until the very end! Recommended to anyone who enjoys a great psychological thriller and doesn't mind ignoring real life responsibilities, as you won't want to put it down!

Three Secrets is a psychological thriller.that keeps you reading and looking for answers. Secrets as well as truths can be overwhelming in any family. But with these folks it was hard to know who to trust.I wanted to get to the end just to find out the why of Robert's death.

A captivating story about life, loves, hates, deception, family values and intrigue within a seriously dysfunctional family covering three generations. Definitely a book that keeps the pages turning when you should already be sleeping!

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a preview copy.

Another predictable story... it was ok, maybe a beach read but too many books too little time for me to suggest this as a read... ordinary

*Thanks to NetGalley and bookouture for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.* I have read one of Boyd's previous novels, 'Liar Liar' and enjoyed it immensely. Her latest work, 'Three Secrets' contained a similar mix of mystery and suspense. The book's protagonist is single mother Francesca, who is trying to rebuild her life after the death of her husband two years earlier. The book jumps around a little bit in time, so occasionally this would be confusing, but overall, it worked towards building up the full picture of just what secrets the Tennant family were hiding. A warning for some readers, the book was a little dark in parts, but not in an off-putting manner.

Three Secrets by Clare Boyd is an addictive story about a dysfunctional family who are trying to ‘keep up appearances’. The characters develop convincingly throughout the story and I found myself willing them on! The secrets they are carrying are gradually revealed with a mixture of consequences (don’t want to reveal the plot!) there are twists and turns to keep your brain engaged and my only frustration was finding the time to read it as it gathers pace in the second half of the book. The descriptions created pictures in my mind clearly throughout and I felt was genuinely involved. The ending reached a resolution, tying up all my queries, which I particularly enjoyed. I have read, and loved, both of Clare’s books. Totally recommend it.

Absolutely riveting from beginning to end. The characters were believable and completely unreliable which is exactly how I like them! I found myself wanting to continue reading this while at work which completely made my day go by slower!

I really enjoyed Three Secrets, I have read Clare Boyd's first thriller Little Liar and I do think this is as good as if not better than her first.
From the first chapter I knew I was going to like this psychological thriller and I wasn't wrong, the pace was good all the way through although it wasn't fast at any point but I didn't mind this in this book and it also dealt with some sensitive issues, which I won't spoil for you but gave the book a different dimension.
The story is split into quite short chapters from mainly Francessca's or Johns point of view which worked well for me and was full of family drama, love, hate, lies secrets and guilt, guilt, guilt. There are three big secrets that are revealed throughout the book and the final one towards the end that gives it a great ending.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

Secrets are a minefield, be careful where you step -— you never know when a blast would occur and all would be lost!!

Francesca's husband Robert jumped off a railing on to the ongoing traffic and he died!! A suicide!! But why? Weren't they a happy couple with their tiny daughter Alice?

Welcome to the Tennants - a dysfunctional, weird, and secretive family where appearances were to kept at all costs. And oh, they were Francesca's in-laws!! Each one reminded me of a rat with their beady eyes and furtive ways, where truth was an unknown factor, even to themselves.

The mother-in-law Camilla was the worst, enabling the lies, being a drug pusher for the son, and with a past which clammed her up faster than she could say the word 'clam'. The father-in-law Patrick was nothing great; he knew everything but pretended to be the monkeys (yup the see no evil hear no evil kinds)

Then we have the lovely younger son John, who played the victim card in certain situations and certainly had his own hand in a lot of secrets. His wife Dilys was a nasty piece of work, oh boy, did I love to hate her. A bully to the end!

After her husband's death, Francesca is thrown into this lot due to financial reasons, and she finds a loose thread unravelling from the yarn of secrets and on she follows it up, till she realizes that the ball of yarn comes from her sweater too...

My second book by author Clare Boyd, and she blew me away with the unlikeable downright awful characters. And that was the best part of the book. Secrets could be guessed easily as pages turned, but the nastiness of the characters just oozed its slime right to the last page, till it coated my fingers. Absolute fun!!

The ending though different felt a bit rushed and unbelievable, (let go of analysis) epilogue showed how a brain can take sudden decisions, the story did drag at certain points. But it is the characters by Clare Boyd which were awesome — horrible and hateful!!

Three secrets turned out to be many secrets pretending to be the truth.
