I actually read this a while ago but forgot to review. I have to say that a book you are able to remember months after reading it is a good one ans and this is one of those.
I also learnt a lot while reading it too!
Great book, great author.
Well written book with an interesting plot I however felt this would've been better as a short story than try and stretch it.
This was a twist and turn roller coaster read which I thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end. Recommended.
I read this in 2018, i didnt write a full revie at the time but i did enjoy it, it was a good read - i felt it was good in parts but some bits i didnt enjoy as much, i would read more from the author
This book didn’t work for me. I could not empathize – or even like – either of the two female main characters. The writing could have been tightened up – the monologues seemed to go on forever – and the ending left me slightly confused and unsatisfied.
I'm rarely a fan of books that contain nothing but characters who, should you know them in real life, you'd run across a motorway to avoid. And yet this really grabbed me from the very first page. The unnatural dynamic between Jane, Elle and Patrick is compelling from the start. Told from Janes point of view we learn about what seems to have been a very one-sided relationship, a love stolen and a hatred so deep it can only be rooted in love.
Deliciously dark, terrifically twisted, I heartily recommend this to any fan of twist in the tale thrillers.
This was my first time reading a book by this author and I really enjoyed it I have to say.
This is Katherine's second novel which I would describe as a psychological thriller. We meet two friends Elle and Jane. They have been friends since they were teenagers and completely inseparable. Jane has always been in awe of Elle silently envying her family life, her looks and maybe a little of her family's money all of which were missing in Jane's life growing up.
This changes however when Elle feels it is right to steal the love of Jane's life the gorgeous Patrick. Now this is where everything changes in the story. We see how obsessive Jane becomes, how destructive she can be when life doesn't go her way and the lengths she will go to get the love of her life back.
A novel full of suspense I loved it and felt nervous turning each page wondering what Jane would do next.
A devious, manipulative lady whose childhood I feel has turned her into the woman she has become.
I feared for her friend Elle, felt terrified for Patrick and wondered throughout the novel who was going to be next in her line of destruction.
A very well written novel, I loved her characters and a brilliant storyline. Check it out when you get a minute..
A special thank you to author Katherine Debona and HarperCollins Publishers UK for my copy of this wonderful book.
To start with I was pulled right into this psychological thriller and it didn't take long to devour the first half of the book. The dynamics between the three main characters (Jane, Elle, and Patrick) were intriguing and I couldn't wait to see Elle get her comeuppance. But there is a huge twist just over halfway through, and whilst this is a very clever twist, after this had happened the story didn't seem to grip me in the way the first half did.
This is a good enough modern thriller. It's a story of mainly love and jealously. I didn't feel that there were too many twists and turns. However I did read the book to the end.
Love Me, Love Me Not by Katherine Debona is a psychological thriller with a few good twists but as much as I wanted to love this book there was something stopping me, I realised halfway through that I was experiencing a reading slump, I have never experienced this before but struggled to get to the end. Although this is a good thriller for me the characters weren’t likeable and I’m not sure I cared enough about them to worry about who was in danger the most.
Elle and Jane have been the best of friends since school and are two very different characters, Elle is beautiful and commands the spotlight wherever she goes whereas Jane is quiet and battling demons in her head every day. Elle lures Jane’s boyfriend from her and ends up marrying him but many years down the line Jane wants him back and through her horticultural knowledge she plans to be rid of Elle permanently.
3.5 stars.
I would like to thank Netgalley and HQ Digital for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.
Jane and Elle - best friends from schooldays. Jane is the star to Elle's sun which is fine until Elle takes something that Jane holds dear, which is when she steps out of the shadows. The three main characters are a motley bunch, a bit odd and very selfish. Their decisions leave much to be desired! The book was a bit long and there was too much botanical stuff. Something of a slow burner the whole way through, but intriguing enough to find out who or what prevailed in the end. Loved the cover and idea for this story.
This is my first book from Katherine Debona , it's quite unique and pretty intense and I quite like it.
It's a psychological thriller read, it's the kind of book that playing with your head from the beginning till the end. Betrayal, suspense, frustration yup you'll get all of those things. It's a bit dragging in the middle and a bit rushed at the end. And the characters, well .... this is the first time that I really hate all the characters, they're all frustrating and selfish, most of the time I want to smack them for the things they do, but the story keeps me turning page after page wondering what will happen in the end, like I said this book is a unique experience for me.
If you like psychological suspense with drama and twisted story and characters, I think you'll like this one.

**RATING 4.5**
LOVE ME, LOVE ME NOT by Katherine Debona is a deliciously dark and disturbing tale about old friendships and just how far someone will go to protect what is theirs.
Jane and Elle have been best friends ever since that first day at private school. Now all grown up, their relationship remains one of the most important parts of their lives. But when Elle takes the man that Jane feels is her soulmate, this shatters their relationship in ways that can never be repaired. But as always, Elle manages to convince Jane to forgive them and Jane becomes even more deeply entangled in Elle's life in a shocking way. But Elle, who has always had an easy life, has no idea how Jane really feels and Jane has plans to take back what is hers ...
I hate it when I see the words 'a shocking twist' attached to a story as I feel it sets a book up onto a pedestal that can easily be knocked down if readers figure it out early or just simply didn't like it. BUT I have to say the twist in this story is a cracker and very well done so I don't mind in this instance.
LOVE ME, LOVE ME NOT by Katherine Debona is very cleverly written, extremely dark and upsetting at times, and completely compelling from start to finish. Neither Jane or Elle are particularly likeable but their relationship is absorbing and fascinating to figure out and they held my interest at all times. It shows the addictive nature of some personalities and the manipulation and depth of emotion that some friendships can evoke - everything from love to pure hate. This book will certainly have you looking at your close friends in a whole new light!!!
Losing the people you love over and over can really mess with your head but it's harder to rectify when you hear voices and have urges to hurt people. You need to learn to control your mind, use it to your advantage and you will finally get what you want, or will you?
Jane, has battled the demons in her mind since her father left when she was a little girl. In her teens she meets her soul mate Elle who takes her under her wing and looks after her. That is until Patrick comes along and ruins their special bond.
Love Me, Love Me Not, is an easy flowing read with characters you will love to hate and vice versa.
It was the cover that appealed to me most about this book as it is such an alluring cover. I also liked the sound of the blurb as it sounded different to other thrillers out there.
To begin with, I found the story to be well written and engaging, I was turning the pages fairly quickly wanting to know what would happen, whether Jane would succeed in her plan or not.
But then, at around the 65% mark in the story, things took a turn, it got a bit weird, I found the story started to drag, and I got a bit bored with all of the botanical references. I found myself scrim reading the rest of the book.
There was a twist at the end but to be honest I had already guessed it.
Having read other reader's reviews of this book, I am glad to see that there are a lot of readers that did indeed enjoy this book, which to me, means it is true what they say, certain books just aren't for everyone.
Thanks for the chance to read this book. I was hesitant to start it I put it off longer than I should have because this book took me for a wild ride. I loved it. I mean the whole story plot was jacked up. I liked that everyone in the end got their just desserts as you could say. I mean if you set out to kill your best friend just because she took your boyfriend after you ended things, things aren't going to end the best. I also like how they made out to look like the best friend was dumb but in the end she was smarter than she let on and had things figured out. Read this book!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of the book.
If you are already suspicious of your BFF, don't read this book! There were some of the nastiness characters in this book and I felt
Jane and Elle met at school. Chalk and cheese they were drawn together and became best friends. Then university happened and Jane met Patrick. Always the also ran in her friendship with Elle, she dreads the two of them meeting. But they do, and Jane's fears were realised as Patrick left her for Elle (or did she steal him) and they got married. Jane ran away to work abroad but Patrick made contact and she was once again dragged into the drama with Elle. Most of this is told in flashback as, when we first meet Jane and Elle, Jane is putting into action her harbouring desire to kill her best friend.
And that's pretty much all I can say about the plot without giving anything away, the rest of the book being jam packed with secrets, lies, duplicitous behaviour and more than its fair share of toxic relationships.
It's not often that I find a book where I pretty much detest all of the main characters; but I did here, and it was good! Obviously they did all have the odd redeeming moment, sometimes a mere glimpse of redemption, a break from their respective evils, but these were few and far between.
Co-dependence is such an understatement for the relationships defined in this book. Love triangle doesn't quite cut it either to describe the ebb and flow of Elle, Jane and Patrick. But, when all was said and done, the story woven around the trio really did work. Shocking at times, but... you know what, at the end of the day, they all deserved what they got and the best thing about the three of them was that they were only wrapped up in each other, leaving the rest of the world safe and alone.
Being a bit of a voyeur, and a bit of a fan of dysfunctional people and their interactions, I lapped up every delicious word of this book. Yes, some of what happened was shocking; the nature of the beasts, but yes, reap and ye shall sow did spring to mind often.
Love, hate and addiction all play their parts to perfection here. There are some really hard hitting themes contained within too and I guess the reader needs to have an open mind about some of the things the characters get up to. I lost track of the number of times I shouted at each of the main characters, for many different reasons. There's also a fair amount of assumptions made throughout the book that stand for quite a bit of cause and effect. The majority of which were all to easy to make for the characters. Did things happen because they were bound to, or did the characters' actions facilitate and enable what happened next? As things started to come clear at the end I did quite a bit of thinking about things I can tell you, not easy when it messed with my head throughout!
All in all, a strange but oddly addictive book that I definitely enjoyed; if that's the right word. It certainly held my attention nicely throughout and I'll definitely be taking a look at her other book. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
I thought this book sounded like it would be a very good read but I found it to be disappointing. Not for me. Sorry.
This is a gripping story that quietly creeps up on you, weaving its shocking tale between past and present . Yes unsettling but written with a flow that made sure I could not put this book. down. Really well written.
Love Me, Love Me Not is a brilliant read for those who like psychological thrillers a little bit different.
