This book hits the sweet spot of nonfiction for young readers: it has a fascinating subject and it is full of visually appealing elements that will motivate readers to turn the pages. I love it when books trick readers into learning and can't wait to place this one in the U.S. History bookshelves in my classroom.

Abraham Lincoln routinely scores the number one spot on lists of greatest United States Presidents. Most people know the highlights of Lincoln's career--securing the presidency, leading the country during the Civil War, signing the Emancipation Proclamation, and delivering the Gettysburg Address. What I really loved about Teri Kanefield's biography for young readers, is that it clued me in to how Lincoln began his path to the presidency, where he gained his abolitionist convictions, and the role Mary Todd played in his life.

I've loved every one of the books in the Making of America Series, and I'm hoping for many, many more additions to the series.

A fine look into an important part of American history. The style of writing is all ok here but it is difficult to place for age related reading. Too basic and lacking in depthe for older children but possibly a little challenging for younger audiences. This isn't bad, but I can't see how it would be best pitched.

I haven’t read any other books in this series, but I really enjoy reading about Abraham Lincoln and I have many students who enjoy the few books in my library about him. I think this book may be slightly too advanced for my elementary school students, but I would still consider adding it to my collection for students who already have some background knowledge and interest in the topic. The information was deep without feeling like it dragged on, and focused on Lincoln’s life overall and not just his presidency or assassination, like many books for younger readers do. Thank you, NetGalley for the ARC!
