I thought this was an interesting outline for a book so was looking forward to reading it.
However a third of the way through it turned very silly and I felt Anna, Jenny and I lost the plot!
In the end I gave up and did not finish the book because I stopped caring about the characters.
Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!
Omg talk about a roller coaster read wow this book kept me on the edge of my seat threw out I just couldn't put it down this writer keeps you hooked and once your hooked your not letting go I found this book thrilling the characters were fantastic and well thought out and the little clues all the way threw keep you guessing until the end this book stays with you long after you close the book this book is well worth the read I promise you wont be disappointed
This is a great read and a well-detailed plot that kept me engaged from the very start. I really liked the well-thought-out characters and found them to be believable. I cannot wait to read what the author publishes next.
I've had this book for years, I still haven't, unfortunately, got to it, so this is a placeholder review to reduce my shelf for my own sanity, but will replace this if I ever get to the book
Once I started this book I couldn't out it down, it was full of twists and turns. A bit of a crazy storyline, but I really enjoyed it.
I will be looking out for the follow on book.
Thank you netgalley.
I thought 34 days started off really well, but soon turned unbelievable and far fetched. I persevered to the end, which had a bit of a shocking twist but I was really glad to finish it and move in to another book
This read was just okay for me. Lots of non-important details and characters. It had a weird pace. But overall, the story and plot were interesting. I just didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped I would.
As promised by the blurb it really is a stunning psychological thriller. I am always a little skeptical when books claim these proclamations, otherwise you going in expecting great things only to be disillusioned.
But I am happy to report, this book does truly live up to the burb!
Loved it and I am buying my sister a copy of this book for her Christmas present as I know she will love it too 😀
It’s Anna and Ray’s 35th wedding anniversary when she makes the decision to walk out the door for good. From this a whole chain of events follows. The book starts as a family drama then gradually changes to something a bit darker with secrets and lies. I liked the start and end but not the middle section too much. It may have been the style of writing which didn’t seem to flow along easily. Plus there were too many “disconnected”s - almost every time someone spoke on the phone this word would appear! Loved the idea of this story so read it very quickly. It was engaging.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to preview a free digital ARC of this book.
Lately, I have had a hard time finding fiction that I really enjoy. I finally found a winner in this book! The characters were just relatable enough. The plot was extremely original and kept twisting! It wasn't a lengthy book, so it didn't give a lot of boring unnecessary details.
WOW, I loved this book.
I couldn't wait to find out what happened, but I also hated to see it end! I hate to give any spoilers for those who haven't read this yet, but it's definitely worth your time to read it!
There were a couple of times when I found I was totally surprised, which I loved.
I do have to say this though, the daughter in law just might be a certifiable PSYCHOPATH!!! Excellent read I look forests to reading more from this author.
Just loved this fast paced book - and actually did find the story gripping. I loved the portrayal of Anna's new life and being swept along in Anna's journey ... Even the little things like choosing her own new furniture for her new flat!
Jenny's portal was good - just enough to feel sorry for her and how her life was poisoned, yet also enough to really dislike her character.
Loved this book and am going to seek out the next one by this author!
Such a gripping tale. What starts off as a wife giving up her abusive marriage becomes extremely complicated with people being torn apart. Anna and Jenny's characters have many many shades to them. I really enjoyed reading this.
I really really loved this book! I wish I hadn’t waited so long to read it!
Was the story far fetched? YES
Was it hard to trust the characters? YES
Were there moments of “ummm did that just happen? YES
Twists? YES
This book was everything I look for in a Psychological thriller. It was a huge page turner for me.
Thank you NetGalley, the Publisher and the author for my free copy.
5 creepy scandalous ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️‘s!!!!
An enjoyable enough read but not really one I'd write home about. This was my first Anita Waller book. Thanks to #NetGalley for the early read for an honest review. #34Days
I really enjoyed this book, it was a bit different . I loved the way it was written over 34 days and showed how things can change in that short space of time. The plot was rather unbelievable at times but even so it grabbed my attention and I need3d to keep reading. I’ve just downloaded the sequel.
There's very little I can say about the specifics of this book, since the blurb gives only the broadest overview. I don't want to spoil anything, so this is going to be a tricky review to write... but I'll do my best to entice your reading appetite.
The morning of their 35th anniversary, Anna left her husband, Ray, who is an abusive, controlling man. Days later, she is stunned when someone close to her confides a shocking secret about Ray. Anna finds herself swept away by a force she can't control, knowing it will change the lives of everyone she loves, but is utterly powerless to prevent what's coming.
34 Days has a swiftly moving plot, and it kept my eyes glued to the page (er... screen). I finished this one over the course of a single day, anxious to see what would happen next. I enjoyed reading the story, and cared about Anna, hoping that all would end well for her, despite the crazy circumstances she found thrust upon her life.
As I reflect upon the story as a whole, however, there were a few things I found wanting. Anna's decision to leave Ray happens immediately, so there was no opportunity for the reader to want this to happen. We're told Ray isn't a good guy, and there are examples of this given later on in the story, but I think I would have preferred to figure this out for myself—perhaps in a brief chapter or two that took place in the early years of the marriage—rather than being plunged into the midst of her decision in the opening chapter of the novel. I wanted to cheer her on for being courageous enough to leave... but I knew absolutely nothing about her marriage, so I wasn't sure if I should be happy for her or not.
I often wished the characters had been fleshed out a bit more, as so little is known about many of them. Particularly Ray, since he is the root cause for much of what happens in this book. The story revolves around two particular characters, but even with them, I found myself wishing I knew more about them—by what I was shown, not told. Several of the characters felt like window-dressing, and had very little impact on the story as a whole.
Many novels drop you right into the action, without giving the reader a chance to get to know the characters, and—depending on the story in question—can work well. I think 34 Days, on the other hand, would have benefited a great deal by doing the opposite. I would have felt infinitely more connected to Anna and other characters if I'd had time to get to know them prior to the main events being kicked off.
Don't get me wrong: I did enjoy reading this novel. I thought the premise was very good, and was excited to see what happened. There were a couple of explosive twists at the end that I loved, because they were so surprising. But I can't help but regret not being able to truly connect with Anna on such a level as to deeply care what happened to her—to be rocked to the core when something didn't go well for her. Even though I cared, it wasn't to that degree.
I definitely had a mixed reaction to this book, but I'm glad I read it.
Being an avid reader over many years I was worried I would guess the outcomes too easily in this thriller/family saga. I didn't and enjoyed the mystery however I struggled to really believe in the journey for Anna Jenny and Michael. I persevered and tried hard to suspend my disbelief but it wasn't easy. That said it was a good read and I look forward to the sequel
How much can your life change in just 34 days?
Wow, this is a brilliant read. I was hooked from the very beginning. It is fast paced and is one of those books where you want to read every sentence because it turns so fast but you also desperately want to know the end. It is full of shocks and surprises and in parts it is very dark. Don't let that put you off, it is a very well told tale of family, love, cruelty, revenge and fate.
