I enjoyed this book. It is fast moving and the plot is full of twists. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read the rest of the series.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.
I have been a long term reader of PJ Tracy Monkeewrench series and all the characters are like old friends. I enjoyed catching up on what everyone was doing but did feel the Monkeewrench team took a bit of a backseat in this story. It also lacked the pace and suspense of many of the books. It took me a little longer than normal to get to end but when I did I was satisfied with the ending.
A police procedural with a terrorism aspect. I have read other books in this series and I was disappointed with this one. It just couldn't keep my attention, and by half way through I really didn't care how it ended. I think there were too many characters, not fully fleshed out, so it was difficult to keep them all in mind as separate individuals.
The Guilty Dead by P.J. Tracey a fraught four-star read. This is the ninth book in the Monkeewrench series and they can be read as stand-alone, but I would recommend you read them in order to get the full story thread. This book was back to the brilliance of the first several books in the series, the camaraderie and witty repertoire between the Monkeewrench gang. This book has some things that will keep you on the edge of your seat and a thrilling story that will leave you guessing, just when you figure one storyline out, there will be another dangled beneath you that will pull the rug from under you. Throw in some great cute baby moments and then this story will keep you on your toes.
I've been reading these books since the beginning, the characters are always interesting enough to keep me coming back for more..
This was an ok read, but I don't think it would bring me back again like the earlier books did.
The suicide that so obviously wasn't a suicide, and terrorist activity all seemed like quite the jumble, but the loose ends tied together.
It will be good to see how Grace is with a baby.
There was nothing wrong with this book,I just feel it could have been faster, and the monkeewrench crew didn't seem to be present much.
Small niggles.
I have read others in this series - one day I must get round to reading them in order. Fortunately i have read the first so know enough to be able to follow this one. I have no idea how two people writing together manage to maintain the pace, mystery, suspense and twists in this plot. The characterisation is excellent I love Grace, Gino and Leo especially and they work really well together. This one centres on both old and new crimes with connections that the Police need to make, and make quickly. It has great complexity in the storyline and kept me guessing almost to the end. I cannot wait for more
This isn’t the latest Installment of the police / Monkeewrench series and I enjoyed it as usual. The story starts with the death of a rich heroin addict. A year later, Leo and Gino are investigating the apparent suicide of his father but circumstances are suspicious, The Monkeewrench crew are tasked with writing a programme to search terrorist chatter and find some disturbing information about a threat to Minneapolis. Of course, these two investigations become linked and come to a head in the last few chapters. During all of this, Grace is heavily pregnant and a vey softened version of the feisty woman we met in the first book.
The story moves at a quick pace and keeps you interested throughout. The end was exciting. I would recommend this as a good holiday or weekend read.
A secret has been well hidden for many years. A young boy witnessed something but did not understand exactly what he was seeing. Years later he sees one of the men he saw that night on the television. He is now out for REVENGE and the body count begins to to rise. Enter detectives Maggozi and his partner. A terrorist attack in their home townshakes them to the core, now it is personal.
Some secrets need to be told not taken with them to the grave. This is A story of one man who wants revenge and a family who has paid the ultimate price.
I would like to thank the author P J Tracy, Penguin Books and Net.galley for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for giving an honest review.
Love the monkeewrench books and this one doesn’t disappoint. Plenty of mystery and intrigue with good character development
This latest instalment from P J Tracy is brilliant. I couldn't put the book down. I love all her books and this story is my new favourite. It has you hooked from page 1 with its compelling intrigue. It has everything, a strong plot, believable characters and I can't wait to read the next book by this author. I would give this 5 stars and more. Highly recommended. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me review this book.
I really enjoyed this story and there were some true heart in mouth moments. A multi millionaire commits suicide on the first year anniversary of his son’s overdose but is all as it seems? The monkeewrench team are working on new technology to help police identify terrorist plots. All the characters are those present in the previous PJ Tracy books but with every book you find out more about their characters and histories.
I liked how the story unfolded and there were twists you just didn’t see coming. I highly recommend it and, although, you could read it without reading the previous books the story will have more depth if you’ve read from the beginning.
Thanks to Michael Joseph and Net Galley for an ARC.
